Hayden Panettiere Talks Activism with Conde Nast Traveler

Hayden Panettiere strikes a pose on a boat off Dana Point, California in this new feature for Conde Nast Traveler.

The 21-year-old actress talked about her role with the Whaleman Foundation, which fights to protect whales and dolphins from whaling, climate change, pollution, and more. Here’s what Hayden had to share:

On being realistic about activism: “I’m an activist who’s aware of what’s realistic to achieve and what’s not. I wouldn’t waste my time going straight for the jugular – I’m not going to preach to people to not eat meat.”

On her trip to Taiji, Japan: “We knew we were up against a huge obstacle in Taiji. In the course of the slaughter, I saw a species in need. The trip inspired me to continue the fight.”

You mean not put your own very life at risk, nor the lives of your crew(s) and your vessel(s),such as does the good Captain Paul Watson, or the courageous makers of the Academy Award-winning documentary, “The Cove”?

But you can apparently at least risk being outspoken enough in your priorities to repeatedly invoke, say, the “F-word”, when it counts, in your perspective:

Even still, I’m a fan, HP, though I would encourage you to more.

Thoughts going through Hayden Panettiere’s head: “I have no job offers anymore! Quick, quick, what can I do so people start talking about me again?!”

I love her realistic, non-preachy approach. I must admit, I thought her dolphin activism was just for attention at first, but now I know she really means it!

i hope she falls and the dolphins eat her

What a magical and beautiful shot. Love that and love her work on behalf of dolphins! Thanks, Hayden!

Of course she wouldn’t have a full wetsuit!

As other countries have said she’s not an activist she’s simply doing it for attention and money.

Nobody stops anyone from being out there with a cause in mind but with Hayden unless it’s documented on video on some other method I don’t think your going to find her doing it.
