Zoe Saldana: I Was A 'Feminine Tomboy'

Zoe Saldana strikes a sultry pose in this feature for GQ‘s September 2011 issue.

The 33-year-old actress chatted about her new action flick, Colombiana, and described herself as “a feminine tomboy” growing up.

“I had my plastic swords, my ninja stars, but I still wore lipstick,” she told the magazine.

Zoe also explained what types of roles she’s drawn to.

“It gets pretty boring when all you are is the support system for a male character,” she shared. “I want to be in the small percentage of women who don’t settle for conventional roles.”

    Eat something! She has lost so much weight and is too skinny now. Why did she do it? She was perfect before. Please put 10 pounds back on. She looks wasted. She should have a healthy model figure that boasts an ample cleavage, fuller legs and a fuller backside. EAT SOMETHING!

    Talk about contradiction in terms!

    Being a feminine tomboy makes no sense. She might have elements of both, which means she is essentially neither!

    s’okay, honey, there is only one Angelina……..Megan found that out as well after her surgery, hair dye, botox and bad azz attitude. The wannabes or boardroom constructed wannabes are so lame. Angelina is IT because she is authentic….she walks her own path in life. That is why she is so admired. Plus she has an enormous BRAIN and HEART. Action movies are not her end all, it is one teeny weeny component. These starlets miss the whole point of Angie’s mega watt stardom and talent.

    What a bunch of judgemental egomaniacs. What makes no sense is how some people just want to be critical instead of being positive. Act mature and tell her its nice to see a new face. She’s pretty, athletic and hasn’t had her lips blown up over 50 PSI.

    And she still has the body of a (tom)boy too. Is that suppose to be sexy? She just looks ridiculous with that scrawny littly body posing all seductively. And I’m sorry but her face nothing to get excited over either. It reminds me of Jada Pinkett Smith. They could be sisters. They have that kinda manly face body building women get. NEXT!

    @ Pipercop

    Welcome to the Internet. This is obviously your first day her. What people are saying her is nothing. There are some vile, nasty people out there who say much worse things about people. Get a clue. Plus, I don’t have to get excited about her just because she’s “new” as you say. Even though she’s been around for several years. There are Jennifer Lawrence and Hailee Steinfeld who are actually new and are extremely beautiful and talented that I am excited to see more of. Not this girl who’s been around since around 2001 and still has yet to be a household name. Oh, and if you are referring to Angelina when you say that Zoe hasn’t “had her lips blown up over 50 PSI” then look at Angelina’s adolescent pictures and you will see it is all natural. Talk about being judgemental, look in the mirror.

    @dawne:
    Yes, Dawne, Angelina is so “authentic” that her nose became much thinner over the years all by itself. Give me a break – or better yet get down to the real world.

    glad to see zoe out and about promoting her new movie, which i’m looking forward to seeing. she is cute, has a great sense of fashion, and sounds pleasant and smart in her interviews.

    for those of you not sure, learn reading-comprehension. yes, it is possible liking action games (or as she described it, being a tomboy) and also enjoying makeup and fashion (being feminine). so funny how the pathetic the negative critics sound here: at least zoe is well-employed making millions being featured in big-time movies. what are you doing lately?

    I love how she tries to come off as super pro-feminist and yet at the same time loves to diss other women.

    And her roles are pretty much the definition of conventional re-hashes.
