Kate Winslet Escapes Fire at Richard Branson's Home
Kate Winslet was unharmed after a fire destroyed Richard Branson‘s home on Monday (August 22) on Necker Island in the Caribbean.
The 35-year-old actress was staying on the British businessman’s private island with her on-again boyfriend, Louis Dowler, and her two kids, Mia and Joe, when lightning reportedly sparked the fire during Hurricane Irene.
“Many thanks to Kate Winslet for helping carry my 90-year[-old] mum out of the main house to safety,” Richard wrote in an email to CNN.
The 61-year-old Virgin Group chairman promised to rebuild the house and “create something even more special out of the ruins.”
“All my family and friends are well, which in the end is all that really matters,” he added.
Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo got married in July on the island, which is located in the British Virgin Islands.
