Earlier in the week, Zoe looked beautiful in a Balmain dress at the Miami premiere of the film.

Colombiana centers around Cataleya who, after witnessing her parents’ murder as a child in Bogota, grows up to be a stone-cold assassin (Saldana).

FYI: Zoe is wearing a Valentino dress, Irene Neuwirth jewelry, a Salvatore Ferragamo clutch, and Christian Louboutin shoes.

    Colombian girls are mostly light skinned like Sophia Vergara. Zoe Saldana is one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood, but she is from dominican descent. People from the Dominican Republic are mostly “mulato” like Zoe Saldana. It is time that Hollywood pays attention to each country’s ethnicity and start using actor that accurately represent each country. Not all latinos are dark skinned. It is time to Break those racist stereotypes.

    Zoe is Afro-latina. Not sure what rock you’ve been under, but there are black latinos.

    @Anon:

    Are you trying to say there are no black people in Colombia? I’m guessing by your comment you are both for and against racial stereotypes.

    I love her dress!

    @Anon:
    “Mulato” ?? Really?? First of all it’s spelled with two “t”s and in any case that term is super derogatory. You’d think that someone who wants to “break racist stereotypes” would know that.

    For your information there are Columbia people of African descent w/ black skin. You need to learn the history of the region before you criticize someone else. As a black Latina I am so sick of people like you that perpetuate this lie that black people aren’t in certain Latin American countries. More Africans were shipped to Latin Amerca than were sent to North America.

    Yuma Says:

    I am from colombia and I don’t feel represented by Zoe Saldana. There are black colombians but they are a minority. If they are making a movie called Colombiana they should have used and actress that looked colombian. like Shakira, Sofia Vergara and even Penelope Cruz. There black latinos, but you will find them more in the Caribbean and even in Brazil. You have to go to Colombia and see for yourself to understand what i am saying.

    Yuma Says:

    Also, it’s called Colombia not Columbia.

    nika Says:

    Well its not to represent u be your own person. FYI Penelope Cruz isn’t Colombian. This movie proves latinas an latinas come in all shades. An so what they decide to use someone that represent the minority latina.

    becathist Says:

    @Anon: You do realize that you’re just as small minded for assuming that only one shade of skin represents all Colombians. Not all latinos are dark skinned? Not all latinos are light skinned. People of all ethnicities come in different colors. Educate yourself. And I’m not sure where you learned that referring to someone as “mulatto” was politically correct, but it’s not. She’s a human being, not a cross between a horse and a mule. The only one making racist stereotypes here is you, doll.

  15. 15
    becathist Says:

    @Yuma: So because they’re in the minority you don’t feel they should be represented? How small-minded can you be?

    @Mejay:

    He is using the Spanish spelling Jenius. LOL

    British Latin American Says:

    In defence of Anon, I believe he is referring to the fact that a lot of Americans (North) have a preconceived notion of ‘Latinos’ all being very dark-skinned, non-european. I guess he feels that casting Zoe Saldana in the role only reinforces that impression.

    Flowers Says:

    I get what Anon and Yuma are trying to respectfully say in terms of represenation of Columbian culture. Hispanics come in all shades and are a diverse group of people, and a beautiful culture with beautiful people. Zoe Saldana is a talented actress who may have been chosen because of her ability to play this role, which she did very well, so acting skills has some part of why she may have been chosen for Columbiana

    brianna bermudez Says:

    @ Anon – I’m from Colombia, matter of fact, I’m from the same city Sofia is from (Barranquila) so I know first hand for a fact that most Colombian women don’t look like her. Colombians come in ALL flavors.
    @ Yuma – What do you mean she doesn’t ‘look’ Colombian? I’m sorry, last time checked, Colombian was a nationality, there is no f*cking Colombian ‘look’! In the Atlantic coast of Colombia you’ll find more Zoe’s and Rosario’s than Sofia’s and Shakira’s! You’re acting like Blacks in Colombia is small miniscule minority. The white population isn’t any larger than the black population (both are around 20%), so why do you feel White Colombians like Sofia Vergara and Shakira should represent Colombian women when Mixed non white Colombians are the majority and hardly get any spotlight?
