Jessica Chastain: I'm a Perpetual Student

Jessica Chastain looks lovely in a new feature from Dazed and Confused magazine’s latest issue, featuring cover girl Juno Temple!

Here’s what the 30-year-old The Debt actress had to share:

On joking about her success and relative anonymity: “Every time I get to a set, the make-up girls are like, ‘Are you excited?’ I want to tell them that it’s not actually my first day on a film.”

On fight scenes: “Fight scenes are like a dance. You have to keep count; your scene partner is like your dance partner. If someone is off count, someone is going to get hurt. But I loved doing them; I wanted to do every single thing my character did.”

On hoping she’ll never stop learning: “I’m a perpetual student, and I hope that will never change. Al Pacino taught me so much about film acting, the most influential teacher, and Terry (Malick) was an exercise of not planning anything and completely being in the moment. I would follow him anywhere, work on anything, hold water bottles just to be on set… Now, I will sign up for things when I know it’s going to be a masterclass. When you’re working with someone good, you have to really bring it, because you have to match them. I always tell my agent I want to work with actors who are better than me, because it puts me at the top of my game.”

Jessica Chastain is a good actress but I wish she didn’t feel the need to lie about her age. There is no way she is only 30 years old. I’d say she is at least 35. I know its not her fault. Hollywood rewards youth.

She is lying about her age. I went to Juilliard with her. She is 36.When is that going to become public??

maybe you are sad @ 09/01/2011 at 12:25 pm

IMDB lists her birthdate as 1981. It also indicates she went to school at Julliard with Jess Weixler who was also born in 1981.

sad – seriously? are you actually that lame and attention seeking that you are going to claim to know her and her age? She looks 30, not 36 and pretty sure she would not be able to hide her age if she really was 36. Get a life!

she doesnt look 30

@shawna and@maybe your sad

I am mentioning it because she is too talented and attractive to lie about something like that. We have enough people who lie to get to where they are and we don’t need more.

Does it matter how old she is? She is beautiful and she is talented. Her wide range of acting roles the past year or so have shown that she will go far in this business. Best of luck to Jessica.

I also went to school with her. I didn’t go to Julliard, I went to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts with her 1998-1999, which she attended for a year before going to Julliard (she never mentions this). Yes, she is 36. There is a whole world of people out there that knew her from “before”, who know her true age.

There is no way she is only 30 years old. I’d say she is at least 35. I know its not her fault. Hollywood rewards youth.
