He’s not even the lead in the film. Kirsten and Charlotte are. Why put him in the title? To satisfy the crazy fans?

With all of his hotness, he can’t cave this! WTF was that?

I guess that’s what I get for being mean! My post was supposed to read: Even with all of his hotness, he can’t save this! WTF was that?

Lesson – if you don’t have something nice to type, don’t type it :)! Lesson Learned

@Alaia: Because the JJ and the film’s US marketing know that to US fans Alex is a draw to this movie. Most Americans have no idea who Charlotte Gainsbourg is.

Although this trailer isn’t new, JJ is posting it because of the premiere at TIFF next weekend. I’m glad Alex gets to go there and promote it since he missed out at Cannes. I really want to see this movie, even if he’s not in it very long. LVT always makes really weird and thought provoking films. They don’t suit everyone’s taste, but it looks beautifully shot and I like Kiki Dunst, so I want to see how she plays this. From all I hear, she did a fantastic job.

I don’t know if you guys saw this on the other thread so I’ll repost it here. Here’s a promo for the season finale of TB. It had better not come down to Sookie having to choose who burns at the stake. Ugh!

Thank you for posting that. It says a lot about Alex.

When Brad Pitt was in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada filming the Jesse James movie, he walked around the set, but didn’t pose for pics with fans or sign autographs. Now, maybe there were instructions for that not to be allowed, or it was due to crowd control, but it would’ve been cool for him to make an effort.

Also during that time, he, Angelina and Maddox were living in a house outside town. A fan waited in the rain for days with a sign asking Angelina for a pic. She finally did it, but it was a shame they took themselves so seriously that they moved around in a convoy, had tarps up around the grounds of the home to hide their movements and photo-ops were staged. I like them, but wonder at their life sometimes. Maybe they didn’t have a lot to do with the public because it was around the time Brad’s divorce from Jennifer became final. Who knows. Death threats maybe?

I don’t think Alex would ever let things get so out of hand he would need to do all that stuff. That’s why he escapes to Sweden, to avoid becoming a Hollywood hermit.

I’m gald that he takes time out for his fans. Hopefully he will never get to that level that he ignores people when his fame really rises. I think it’s good he goes back home where he’s just considered a regular person by everyone. It keeps him grounded. He’s said that in recent interviews that his friends just treat him like a regular person and that’s what he appreciates.

I read somewhere that a girl approached Gerard Butler at a club in L. A. and asked for a pic. He told her it would cost her a dollar, but he gave the dollar back and apparently talked to her for 10 or 15 minutes. I wonder if the European actors are just more relaxed?

These ‘art’ movies usually have such a limited distribution that Melancholia may not be shown at nearby theaters. I wonder how wide the distribution for Straw Dogs will be too. I will see both of them in theaters if I can do that reasonably easily. If not, will do on demand. but I think it makes a difference to see movies on the big screen so I’ll hope for that. I’m glad to see Alex will go to TIFF for this, it was a shame he had to miss out on Cannes. Hope he gets good notice for his role in it.

    Camille Says:

I’m not sure either of these will come to my town’s theatre. It’s pretty small and usually shows the big blockbuster, family or kids movies. We got The King’s Speech only after it won at the Oscars, even though it had been out for a long time before that.

Awww, Alex posing with a mom and her little baby. The caption says that the baby’s name is Caleigh and that she had fun with Julianne Moore, so maybe she’s in the movie?

Wow, this looks promising. And that Dunst already won an award for this gives me hope. I so much want to like this film.

    M Says:

He’s barely a lead in the film let alone in this trailer. That’s American marketing for you….

  24. 24
    ladybug Says:

@M: Yes, it is. It may be misleading, but it’s smart. Now the average LVT fan/serious filmgoer might know who everyone else in the cast is, but if you’re trying to expand your American audience then you’re going to have to use Alex’s name.

    Cookiecrisps Says:

Seen this film, his character leaves Kirstin’s after she gets all gloom and doom on their wedding night. So, really he is only in it for like 25 min. But I still loved him in it. :-)
    Kirstan was amazing!
