Eddie Murphy is a top choice to host the 84th Academy Awards, Deadline reports.

The 50-year-old actor will reportedly be Oscar producer Brett Ratner‘s only proposed choice at an upcoming meeting with the Academy members.

Eddie has shown interest in accepting the gig.

According to Deadline, other big stars have approached another producer of the awards show Don Mischer with interest in hosting, but Brett has his eyes on Eddie!

I wish Eddie Murphy would do movies for adults again like he used to and ceases doing children’s films. It would be sad and disappointing if he doesn’t.
Everyone is ready to give up on him. He has alienated his fanbase for years and has seemingly gone out of his way to make lousy children’s movies, with only the occasional adult film once in a while.

This will be funny. Because of all the crap children movies he’s been doing a lot of people tend to forget Eddie Murphy is one of the greatest comics ever.

This’ll be better than James Franco and Anne Hathaway.

It’s not difficult to be better than Anne and James, I think. Separately nice actors, together chemistryless. :( But I don’t like him. Especially from the whole denying the child support, asking for DNA tests point of view. I know we should judge them for their work, but they’re in the public eye, they should be aware that they’re role models. Or just simply behave their own age and be respectful.

I doubt if his kind of humor suits the occation.

this guy isnt my first choice…
but maybe, i mean it will definetly be an improvement from last years.

Eddie Murphy? I guess we can expect a lot of “whitey” jokes, and, since it will be an election year, a lot of Obama love and attacks on conservatives.

And, I guess getting a black actor to host is supposed to add some color because, we know there will be few if any blacks or other minorities nominated for awards!

I think he will be great. Beverly Hills Cop, anyone?

Many people criticized Anne and James as hosts last year, personally I felt that it was James that bombed the Oscars.

He was so wooden and awkward. I think if it had just been Anne, it would’ve been okay.

I mean two hosts just don’t work, look at Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin – they said very funny things but their act together didn’t work.

I think Eddie Murphy would be a good choice for the host of the 2012 Oscars, because he’s been around longer (very much like multiple host Billy Crystal) and he’s genuinely funny.

The only unfunny thing about him is the recent movies he’s been making, but I don’t think that would be a problem for him.

    OMG! Please no!!

The humour of that guy was mostly never my type but it has gotten really, really bad the last few years. I hate it when “comedians” only aim their jokes at other peoples weaknesses or crude sexual jokes and Eddie Murphy is a prime example for that kind of “comedy”.

Eddie Possibly hosting the oscars is a big mistake his comedy isn’t right for the ocassion. Nell Newman & Carlo Nero would be a better Idea both of them are hollywood royalty by birth three of their parents are former oscar winners who by many real film fans are still beloved. correct Nell’s Parents are/were Paul Newman & Joanne Woodward the last Married actors to both win oscars in 1958 and 1987 respectively and Carlo’s mother is Vanessa Redgrave and that family name goes back in theater/film at least 150 years or about 8 generations

    Christine Liu Says:

no. you know who should host the oscars? betty white.
or tina fey and steve carell together!

Hollywood is lost. The Oscars are a tight-azz group of people coming together to get an award that really no longer matters SINCE really good actors, movies and scripts no longer exists.

This is an award show that NEVER gave Al Pacino an award…until he did “Scent of a woman”…and made “It’s hard out here for Pimp” as song of the year.

I’ll check out Eddie Murphy ..he’ll probably “hold it down”.

Johnny Carson, Billy Crystal, Garry Shandling were AWESOME!
Even Alec Baldwin/Steve Martin were good.

To—”POSTER-SILLYME” Eddie’s jokes will be penned by WRITERS some of them white, asian, latin.. whatever. “Whitey” jokes haven’t been used in Murphy’s stand-up in years…and guess what
RICHARD PRYOR, GEORGE CARLIN ..AND DON RICKLES were the best at that kind of humor.
