Andy Whitfield: Dead at 39

Andy Whitfield, star of Spartacus: Blood and Sand, died on Sunday (September 11) in Sydney, Australia, USA Today reports.

The 39-year-old actor lost his battle to non-Hodgkin Lymphoma after an eighteen month battle with the disease.

Andy‘s wife said in a statement that he died on a “sunny Sydney morning” in the “arms of his loving wife.”

Andy was a small time actor until he was cast in the hit Starz series. In January, it was announced that Liam McIntyre would take over for Andy‘s role in the series.

Our deepest condolences go out to Andy’s family and friends.

“Small Time Actor” eh? Does that make you a “small time blogger”? … Douchebag.

..Horrible news. I really liked Spartacus, and was hoping he’d get better. Was shocked when I seen it on TMZ.

It’s so sad, because I remember when he went to Comic Con he had mentioned that his disease was contained and he was on his way to recovery. He even mentioned being ready to start filming season 2 of Spartacus. This is really shocking to know he is gone.

May he rest in peace. It’s such a shame to think that someone so fit and strong can be taken so quickly thru such a devastating disease. May his family stay strong in their time of despair.

The 9-11 coverage is seriously depressing, I’m already real low.
So I go on JJ for some celeb gossip and this is what greets me, I can’t take it. Andy :(

Andy come back :(

Truly devastating news. May God bless his family and friends. A true talent lost too soon. Heartbreaking.

@dj tuttyram: How is your comment any better?

RIP to Andy

Great actor, great person and all around good family man. Its truly sad how correct ‘the good ones die young’ statement is. Best wishes to his wife and kids I hope they stay strong because this is really heartbreaking.

Forever young forever beautiful Andy.
Miss you.

When I saw this now I was just shocked. Why are we shocked? We knew he was sick. But I really thought he was better. totally off guard.
And just really sad. Just sadness for someone I never knew.

@brittany: Well to me he’s not a small time actor. His acting was amazing. RIP Andy – love.
