Michelle Williams Covers 'Vogue' October 2011

Michelle Williams channels Marilyn Monroe on the October 2011 cover of Vogue, on stands September 20.

Here’s what the 31-year-old actress, who wore Oscar de la Renta, shared:

On not being as guarded during interviews: “I feel like something has changed for me, but it’s a new change, so it’s going to be hard for me to describe. Maybe it has something to do with turning 30. I don’t feel as shy or nervous or self-conscious. I have more confidence that I can handle what life brings me. I don’t feel scared to have an idea and express it. I feel giddy about it because it’s a complete transformation. It’s like I’ve found my voice.”

On how daunting playing such an iconic figure was: “As soon as I finished the script [for My Week with Marilyn], I knew that I wanted to do it, and then I spent six months trying to talk myself out of it. But I always knew that I never really had a choice. I’ve started to believe that you get the piece of material that you were ready for.”

On gaining weight to approximate Marilyn’s curves: “Unfortunately, it went right to my face (puffs up cheeks to illustrate). So at some point it became a question of, Do I want my face to look like Marilyn Monroe’s or my hips?” (She opted for the former and filled out the latter with foam padding.)
Michelle‘s new movie, My Week with Marilyn, opens November 4. It’s about a week of Marilyn‘s life in 1956 while filming the movie The Prince and the Showgirl.

Her boobs are so huge! There are too many actresses playing Marilyn Monroe in different projects. Poppy Montgomery in the television mini-series, Blonde, Michelle Williams in My Week with Marilyn, Naomi Watts in the forthcoming film, Blonde, Angelina Jolie was rumoured in The Life and Opinions of Maf the Dog, and of His Friend, Marilyn Monroe. I wish only one actress would play her in every project.

Even though I see Michelle Williams a very talnted actress yet I don’t see her as Marilyn Monroe !! Marilyn was so sexual so seductive so sexy and that so not Michelle that just my 2 cent in the subject but who knows maybe I’m wrong so I’ll see the movie 1st and maybe I’ll change my mind.

Michelle as Marylin…is it joke?! She has absolutely nothing in common with her!

    Annie Says:

Even with gaining weight I don’t think Michelle would look like Marilyn at all – Michelle is simply built too straight up and down which is why the weight did not look good on her. I know nobody looks exactly the same as anyone else, but when the actor playing someone looks *nothing* like who they are portraying and we all know what that person looks like, it’s distracting. Bad casting.

I think Scarlett Johansson would have been a better choice.

@Ashley: Scarlett turned down this role.

For some reasons I don’t like her. Nothing against her acting, I just don’t like her appearence.

    Alaia Says:

I think perhaps people are misunderstanding the point of this movie. It is depicting Marilyn at her most vulnerable. Michelle will bring something new to the table other than a ‘good impression’. She will give her the depth that most actresses that just merely look like her could only dream of giving.

This film isn’t about her being sexy, it’s going unleash a new side of her that nobody seems to know about.

    Mayle Says:

I think the most worrying thing about the criticisms towards her casting is the fact that people are annoyed that she doesn’t look like Marilyn. WHO CARES? It’s about what she does with the role. Scarlett Johansson? I gave up on her a long time ago. What a sell out.

    Dawn Says:

Marilyn didn’t even look like Marilyn. Plastic surgery, and loads of make up is how she became iconic. Why don’t you guys see past the face for once. Everyone is so obsessed with how much she doesnt really look like her, you don’t even care about the film.

    Dawn Says:

Not the best angle for her face… makes her look like a mouse.

    no Says:

There is no energy coming through the photos. She is posing perfectly but the energy is dead. To be an actress, you have to create an “energy”. She just looks like she’s being instructed into these poses like a cardboard cutout. Marilyn didn’t need to be instructed because she was the epitome of “foxy” lady, she just did what came naturally. Michelle comes across as more school teacher than sex kitten. You either got it or you don’t!

most boring actress in hollywood and she looks nothing like marylin

    Sarah Says:

Poppy Montgomery was definitely the best Marilyn! Michellle Williams is a good actress but she’s too skiny to play Marilyn,

    Industry Loser Says:

This is not someone playing Marilyn Monroe.
First of all she stuffed her bra with those rubber inserts and the makeup is that of a prostitute. Michelle likes to believe she was meant for hollywood. She would have been dumped a long time ago by the industry if it were not for Heath Ledger.

    He never loved you Michelle.
You are nothing but a boring wannabe who stole his future by trapping him and you certainly were not meant to play Marilyn Monroe.

    Nano Says:

Am I the only one who doesn’t believe her reason for not gaining weight? I mean, she was curvier on Dawson’s Creek, and her face didn’t look bloated, she was adorable! You don’t want to gain weight for a movie, fine, but come with a better excuse ;)

Scarjo never got to turn down the role. They didn’t pick her and Ask yourself why does Scarjo turn down the role?
Do yourself a research before comment.

She certainly does not have it. Your comments were the best.

    You Says:

@MOnny:First of all, I don’t care why Scarlett turned down this role. And I know what I am writing. I havent made up this story myself. Go to the IMDb page of this movie and read the trivia part. You’ll see where I took Scarlet turned down this role. Second YOU yourself go and do research before jumping on my comment.

@Industry Loser: Oh here we go, mention Heath Ledger for no reason. She had a career before Heath Ledger. What a ridiculous thing to say. Stop acting as if Heath was some saint.

    Super Cool Says:

MM was looking sexy but also classy (with that hair) because she had very soft looks and pure beauty. She was graceful yet she was curvy. I really do not see Michelle Williams as MM. She is pretty but she does not look classy with that hair and make up, unlike MM. Acting skills are of course more important than the looks, however MM is an icon because she was unique so the looks are very important in this case. I can not think of anybody who could be MM, including Scarlett Johansson, even she does not have the grace that MM had.
