Gerard Butler Explains His Drastic Weight Loss

Gerard Butler Explains His Drastic Weight Loss

Gerard Butler lands at LAX Airport after flying in from NYC on Thursday (September 15) in Los Angeles.

The 41-year-old Scottish star was in the Big Apple to promote his new movies, Coriolanus and Machine Gun Preacher.

Gerry also attended the Diesel Black Gold show where he chatted with Us Weekly about his recent weight loss.

“I ate my last meal in October and I run about 40 miles a day,” he joked. “It’s just doing a lot of cardio and extremely watching what I eat. I stopped lifting big weights and I’m doing yoga.”

“If I wear a long shirt, everyone says, ‘Oh my, God! He lost so much weight.’ But this is how I look,” he added. “I just used to be a lot bigger. But now I’m surfing. I’m doing a surf movie so I have to slim down. I don’t know … maybe I’m sick or something!”

FYI: Gerard is wearing a Rogue plaid shirt and dark olive jacket.

    @UK: To follow GB and all his antics is a lot of fun, but you cannot possibly take anything he says or does seriously. Smoke and mirrors.

  • ,,,,

    @Blond: But it is obvious that many of those here, and on WO, have a lot personally invested in his career and/or s*x life, to the point where they find it distressing. An addiction.

  • UK

    @Blond: Agreed, but an occasional check is better than spending all day on the board, which some seem to do, awaiting developments.

  • T.

    @UK:

    You make a lot of great points on here. I usually come here just to check out the comments because they are just too wild. But I became a part of the wildness today because I caved and started arguing because I get defensive when it comes to the treatment of women I guess. But it’s definitely time to go…..

  • LLL

    @UK: I like to read the poster’s comments on Gerard Butler. It is a small sample, but I like to see the fan’s reactions. Always, it is varied, but then again the same also. RL has been hectic for me in the past several days, so it is fun and entertaining to read the JJ Gerard Butler threads.

  • Blond

    @UK: Totally agree. Checking this site once in a while is a lot of fun but to live on JJ or any other GB site is definitely an addiction.

  • Nobody You Know

    I mentioned months ago that NY Lunch Girl’s name was Nicole.

  • GFW

    That’s been established along with her last name, thus publicity (for her). We get it. Like Gerry says it’s a “win-win” situation.
    ~K

  • LLL

    @GFW: You must think that Gerard Butler has a terrible personality and is a horrible person to be around? Seems you don’t have a very high opinion of him. From what you post, the only reason people want to be around him is for publicity. Can he be that unlikable?

  • Earlyautumn’s Eve

    I think Gerry has a system down. He may go out or shag a model or two or even others and keep them on as “friends” with a nice parting gift, calling them up to meet him for lunch or go to a club. This way, he has GF’s to choose from like he does his different cars. No since being stuck to just one when you can have a different one for each mood or day of the week and you don’t have to answer to any one o them! LOL!

  • Earlyautumn’s Eve

    Ooh, I had a wee bit o the scot’s accent on that one! LOL!

  • LLL

    @Earlyautumn’s Eve: I think he only has two cars. Of course, as always, others here might know more than I.

  • N.

    His first with a gymnast in Jamaica.. I thought he was joking in the interview when asked during TUT promo. Too much info. here.

    He was not under oath during Stern interview, so he had the liberty to fudge his answers a little if he deemed it necessary when they got too personal. This could come back bite his a$$. Whatever he said some people will take it as the absolute truth and some will call him a liar if he later recants.

    He sounded like he realized his playboy image was not good for his career. But the question is: why the hail did he have another public snogging session? Contradictory here, unless he wanted to deflect the Brandi FWB rumors.

    At the end of the Stern interview he started to sound a little desperate to try to dispel rumors about his playboy behavior. Poor guy he literally had to yell to get a chance to talk with not much voice left.

    I sincerely hope he will refrain from comparing Sam’s finding God and going to Africa to save children to his quitting law and becoming an actor. It’s cringeworthy because although both went through personal transformations, Sam’s is altruistic while his is all for Gerard. Bid difference. JMO

  • Canera

    I think that people can excuse the Charlie’s and Tigers and men who abuse their girlfriends and wives. But god forbid Gerard Butler, who does a lot of good for people, must be put down. I just don’t understand all the negative points that always seem to come out on this man’s life.

  • N.

    Also, about the Central Park encounter with the two Argentine girls… Stern seemed to try to make something more out of this than there was. “Two women crying and moved so much because of the nearness of him..” WTH? I remember only one teenage girl crying and she obviously was over-excited over a celebrity who was unexpectedly nice and friendly. That’s my interpretation anyway.

  • Manny

    @cubedweller:
    .
    You are right on the money with that Stern interview. I was laughing and cringing all at the same time.

    Butler laid himself bare and put a lot of things to rest IMO.

    @66 (Manny)

    Hey GF;

    Wuz up?! Me, I did not listen to the whole HS interview….what I did was like wow….. because for one, on 9-12 there was a post saying he was interviewed by Farah Nasser (http://twitter.com/#!/FarahNasser)
    “Interviewed the very dreamy Gerard Butler this morning. He says he’s looking for a woman who is fun and easy-going…..” then the HS’s interview. I wonder if he meant easy and “fun-going”. He really stepped on his “Mr. Bates” big time IMO. I can understand joking and all and he is known for inserting foot and taking “forward” to the extreme…. wonder how this is going to pan out. The View and other interviews were after right? Funny, he wasn’t drilled like Howie did him and he seemed “human”….. Who’s to say he wasn’t uncomfortable…his body language did show he was uneasy more so in the HS interview than in the others…. then again with what bits I saw of the others they did not get that personal. Anyway, have a great day.

    Peace.

    I believe he has a Range Rover, Yukon, Escalade Hybrid, a little Mercedes suv crossover and his vintage beemer convertible. I’ve seen him driving all of them. I’ve seen Amy drive the Range Rover sometimes and the Yukon. But I think they’re for the production company’s fleet of vehicles. I don’t know if he still has the white 500 SL convertible or not.

    @Canera:

    I don’t understand it either. Their behavior is almost acceptable to Gerry’s for some reason. I think the reason the media plays up the neg is because Gerry’s so evasive of his private life so they have to invent stuff to make it more interesting. In truth, his private life is pretty dull compared.

    **

    @N.:
    -
    I don’t think they mentioned that it was the two young Argentine sisters but that was who I thought of. Their parents were right there with them and the girl was emotional from not only the celeb siting but I think because they were going to see The Phantom Of The Opera that night on Broadway. Two young girls visiting NYC and seeing a celeb is a big deal! Nothing wrong with that.

    **

    @Manny:
    -
    I listened to the entire interview and I liked that he laid himself bare in a lot of what they discussed. It’s the HS Show and I don’t think a lot of what he said will be heard by just everybody but ther was nothing so bad. Howard has a certain audience and I had never listened to his show before. I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed the interview though.
    -
    As far as what G said about comparing American women to European women I think what he was referring to was that American women get more hung up on the expression of their sexuality as it refers to being in a relationship then just sex for fun. I think that’s true. That’s our culture here. We’re taught that a man is “using” a woman if he has sex with her and doesn’t carry on a proper relationship with her or never calls her again. That’s saying in essence that it’s all a one sided thing and that the man is getting something and the woman is giving it and he owes her something in exchange for sex rather then saying they both enjoyed the experience equally and they both got something out of it. I think that takes away from the equality of it and puts women back in the subservient position of being the “giver” and the man being the “taker”. We’re still living in the fifties in that regard.
    -
    Women are much more sexually open and sophisticated in a lot of European cultures then in the US and it’s more acceptable for them to be sexually open and they don’t feel if they have sex with a guy it has to be in a committed relationship. Not only that but some feel it’s OK to have extramarital sex as well. Just a concept we haven’t embraced in the states yet. LOL!

  • Earlyautumn’s Eve

    Sorry, didn’t realize that last post was so freaking long! LOL!

  • Earlyautumn’s Eve

    @sss:

    I think that last article is funny if he said that! LOL! My husband says that too. It’s a man thing but I think women do the same thing and men just think they have cornered the market on superficial raunch talk! Men look at body parts first on a woman, face, azz, whatever. They do. It’s how they’re hard wired. But women will do the same thing but there are so many more frumpy men out there then good looking ones, we’ve just learned to expect less! I’m glad for guys like Gerry setting the bar higher for males to live up to. It’s about time! LOL!

  • Maggie P.U.

    @70 Evie…. you are correct. I have both European and American friends both men and women. Euro’s are more laid back in many things especially the relationship/sex issue compared to the Americans. Especially the women. My friends from across the pond are like “had a great time moving on…” and one of my friends here for example is like “He doesn’t feed me then I am not sleeping with him”. In other words, no burger no bop. You definitely hit it on the nail head. I think that was what Gerry was trying to say in Gerry’s own way but like I said.. With the little I heard and his body language he didn’t get to enhance that remark. And that is why I said he pretty much stepped on Mr. Bates…. He has been in enough interviews to expect the unexpected and expected. He should have said something like “Let me clarify” or if HS is cutting him off “May I finish” or something of the sort to where it isn’t leaving him wide open for “why did you say that”… and so forth.

    Peace.

    Written by UK on the last thread “Looking at a gilded life, produced by sheer selfishness, plus the desire to see though to some kind of truth (which isn’t any different than the public GB) is corrosive”.
    .
    I wanted to thank you for saying what I’ve been thinking for some time. Reading about this guy and others like him does have a “corrosive” effect. Which is why I so seldom read threads about him. I enjoy this site, my guilty pleasure, but Butler is not a sugar pill; he’s best taken in small doses.

    You really need to listen to the full HS interview to appreciate why people are raving about it. Don’t just listen to the first Youtube video and think you know what it’s about. When the interview really gets going, it gets into very serious territory. Gerry wasn’t uncomfortable. Cubedweller is right. Gerry starts to control the interview, not the other way around. Gerry was in his element, he was a fish in water. He can handle men like HS. Their sense of humor is very similar. HS covers some really intense territory and you get answers and insights from Gerry that he’s never given before. Lots of revelations about his father, his mother, his step dad, his early acting career, and his very honest views on women and relationships. Tune out the vulgarity and listen to all six parts. Lots of great insights in that interview for Gerry fans. It’s also going to be a treasure trove for our resident arm-chair psychologists on JJ.

    .
    Sorry Eve but I have to take issue with some of the things you posted…
    .
    “Gerry’s so evasive of his private life so they have to invent stuff to make it more interesting. In truth, his private life is pretty dull compared.”
    .
    And you know this how? Can you prove they have invented stuff? You are speaking as if you have inside knowledge which is not true. Butler has done enough boasting to take the wind out of that argument of yours IMO. His interview with HS speaks volumes as to who he is…
    .
    I also take issue with your US vs. European women. That has absolutely nothing to do with the point made by others. Their points, which I totally agree with, is that he said he likes to use and move on by his words “get rid of.” Gee whether you are European or American, I can’t think of any woman that would like to be referred to as disposable.
    .
    I agree with you that it takes two to tango… BUT his attitude of disposable women is a very valid point IMO.
    .
    As for a long winded post…….. wasn’t it just a thread or two ago that you made a nasty comment to Curious Cat about the same thing? Shame shame…

    As I was getting ready for work this morning Phantom of the Opera was on HBO. Gerry looked so good then. Was quite a wake up call to me how different he looks now. He still has those great hands but the imposing feel of his body is long gone. Made me sort of sad…….

  • UK

    The video of the two crying women (girls actually) is on YouTube. Don’t know if this was mentioned – just check on his name and Central Park. This was the start of the encounter – obviously it’s not clear if it continued as Stern suggested. Perhaps it did or perhaps it was GB boasting? Perhaps one of the origins of his joke that two 17-year old girls equal one 34-year old woman? Whatever excuses or explanations are glossed in now, he hasn’t done his public image any favours with the HS interview, certainly with those who didn’t know as much about him as those who frequent these boards.

  • UK

    Just to clarify my previous post, I meant GB boasting to his friends which created a story that reached HS, not boasting in the interview. Unless anyone knows of how the story started that he took them home and …..

  • LLL

    @Earlyautumn’s Eve: Are those the cars you have seen him drive over the years? In LA, I think he only has the MB suv and the little car, but it isn’t vintage. I think maybe you are right about his staff driving some of the others you listed. Where would he park all of those cars anyway? Maybe Gerard Butler needs one of those driveways that can accommodate twenty five parked cars. <— that’s a little side joke btw….

    I think personally GB relationship wise is not good but im not advocating him here but i know this womaniser guy and he said he constantly went through women afer women until he met someone who swept him off his feet and made his heart skip a beat everytime he saw her. Maybe thats the same case with GB he sleeps with them and can be great friends with them but hasnt been with someone he gets addicted to. And i think when he said hes been in love i dont believe him as in a previous interview he said he hasnt been in love but been infatuated with ppl then wears off and doesnt let get to emotioanally connected, because if you really love someone you will do everything in your power to keep them, GB cheats on most of his girlfriends or maybe all

  • LLL

    @lolita: It is interesting how everything that Gerard Butler has said in interviews has been analyzed. The posters seem to pick and choose what is the truth and what is a joke…or what must be the “real truth” because Gerard Butler covered it up with a joke. As for your statement “He just hasn’t met me yet. LOL”… try Match.com.!! If we are suppose to take everything as the serious truth, Gerard Butler stated he is on that dating site in an interview. Good Luck.

    You said……
    “Sorry Eve but I have to take issue with some of the things you posted…”

    Take “issue”? What’s the big issue? You’re entitled to your opinions and I mine. No need to get your panties in a bind! LOL!

    **
    I said…..
    “Gerry’s so evasive of his private life so they have to invent stuff to make it more interesting. In truth, his private life is pretty dull compared.”

    .
    Can you PROVE that they haven’t? You know how the media likes to embellish and sensationalize! You can’t be that naïve! All of what he does or doesn’t do is hearsay and don’t go reverting back to his little snogging sessions on sidewalks as proof of his manhoring. Gerry’s “boasting” is just what he does to get a rise out of people. Men are notorious for telling “fish tales”.
    -
    His interview with HS was revealing, confirming many things I already knew about him and adding some new things I didn’t. I liked it and actually, HS went up a couple of notches in my book as well.

    **
    You said….
    “I also take issue with your US vs. European women. That has absolutely nothing to do with the point made by others. Their points, which I totally agree with, is that he said he likes to use and move on by his words “get rid of.” Gee whether you are European or American, I can’t think of any woman that would like to be referred to as disposable.”
    -
    I’ll have to go back listen to what he said but I didn’t hear him use the word “disposable” or “get rid of”. What I’m saying about US and European women is true, for the most part and I do believe that’s what he was referring to.

    **
    You said…
    “I agree with you that it takes two to tango… BUT his attitude of disposable women is a very valid point IMO.”
    -
    Again, it’s your perception he was referring to women as “disposable”. Manny, I think you need to stop worrying so much about Butler if he doesn’t fit your idea of what a man should be or act like! I don’t really understand your bashing of him yet you still hang on to him coming to his threads! LOL! Your attraction to him seems to be centered around an obsession over his looks, so with all you are saying how HE treats women, objectifying and disposable, wouldn’t YOU be guilty of objectifying him too? You even “disposed” of him on numerous times saying you were no longer attracted to him when he was smoking, obsessing over how it would damage his “looks” more so then being concerned about his health. Obviously that clarifies that your only admiration for him is superficial, just like YOU accuse him of being! LOL!

    Case in point, this comment…..

    “As I was getting ready for work this morning Phantom of the Opera was on HBO. Gerry looked so good then. Was quite a wake up call to me how different he looks now. He still has those great hands but the imposing feel of his body is long gone. Made me sort of sad…….”
    -
    Now admit it. If he talked about a woman this way, you’d have be up in arms and take immediate “issue” with it! LMFAO!

    **
    You said…
    “As for a long winded post…….. wasn’t it just a thread or two ago that you made a nasty comment to Curious Cat about the same thing? Shame shame…”
    -
    She made a nasty comment to me! LOL! And for the record, how many nasty comments have you made about myself and others here even resorting to name calling? Is that very mature? Again, you seem to sit in judgement on people and accuse them of the very things you do! Shame, shame back at you!
    -
    But back to Butler. You’re a woman who seems to be so appalled by a man who’s behavior, in your eyes, is immature and disgusting. So why do you even bother with him? I’m sure there are many more virtuous and gentlemanly hunky actors like Cloony, Pitt and whoever else that are more worthy of your admiration!

  • Lampsandtables

    He didn’t show on Piers Morgan Tonight yesterday. Were we misinformed or was he sick so he had to cancel? Curious. Hope he is all right after the whirlwind press trip last couple weeks.

  • Earlyautumn’s Eve

    @LLL:

    Yes. I’ve seen him get in and out of a black Yukon in LA getting coffee. He was even cleaning old coffee cups out of it! LOL!

    I’ve seen him driving the little Benz suv quite a bit. I think that one is a personal car.

    I’ve seen him driving the Beemer leaving a lunch with friends. Heigl was there.

    I saw him filling up the RR with Amy just lately. I don’t think he’d be filling up her car but I guess a PA can earn enough to afford one and a good boss might just do that.

    I’ve seen him get out of the RR to go surfing. I think he has that one at the beach.

    It wouldn’t be difficult to store his cars in storage units if you don’t have the garage space but I think some of them are for the production company.

    My son has a triple car garage and his wife has a Tahoe and he has a Dodge truck and another work truck and stores his Corvette up on the highway in a storage unit because he doesn’t want to drive it on gravel! Storage units are pretty safe, lighted and gate locked.

    Also, since I can’t get this post to post, I’ll just add to it another comment…

    @Lampsandtables:

    I never saw anywhere that he was going o be on Piers Morgan. But they do pre record many shows way in advance for editing purposes. Check with GALS. I think they have it covered. Gerry’s schedule is pretty slammed right now. He may have to decline some appearances. I would like to see him on that show, however. Piers is an old tabloid writer so if an interview has got to go, he’d probably can that one.

  • Earlyautumn’s Eve

    Sorry for the double post but blame it on JJ! LOL! I didn’t think it went in.

  • Earlyautumn’s Eve

    @Lampsandtables:

    I checked GALS schedule and he was supposed to have TAPED the show on 9/16 and the air time has not been scheduled yet.

  • LLL

    @Earlyautumn’s Eve: The point was you equated Gerard Butler’s females to his cars… a different car/female for everyday of the week. There is no reason to go back and forth with you….without a doubt you know more than I.

  • Earlyautumn’s Eve

    @LLL:

    The change in the tone of your post suggests that #96 might not be you! I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and say someone is playing tricks! LOL!

  • hmmm hmmm

    @Lampsandtables: Matter of wrong info coming from GALS. Might have been the day Butler taped or was supposed to tape interview with Morgan who knows. Piers does not work on as fixed a schedule as other shows it appears, also a breaking news story will push everything else off.

  • vehicles

    I think this has been discussed here before, guessing that he either gets comped vehicles for promotional purposes, perhaps just for a short period of time, long enough for the paps to get photos like that silver Mercedes hybrid car which we’ve only seen him near once! or unlike most of us he can lease a vehicle and then exchange it or they’ll take it back, no questions asked no penalty vwhenever he gets bored, again for the promotional consideration. He doesn’t even drive in NYC so he’d be a fool to “buy” all those vehicles he is seen driving. He probably only has a few vehicles he owns outright or has long term leases on. He’s a true Scotsman, why pay for something you can get for free or write off as a business expense at least. You know like milk from the cow.

  • May God Bless yoou all!
