OlderGerard Butler: 'The Tonight Show' Guest!

The 41-year-old Scottish stud (in Dolce&Gabbana) stopped by the talk show to speak with host Jay Leno about his upcoming film Machine Gun Preacher, which hits theatres this Friday, September 23.

Just caught the Tonight Show. Words fail me (almost). Basically all about Butler until the film clip at the end of his segment. Then some pretty lewd antics with that Whitney girl during her segment. A little of her goes a long way. I felt a little ill at all the jokes about what a slvt he is. Um – what about the movie?????

The good news is, Butler owned up to falling off the wagon and smoking for about a month. I have no clue what he was going on about – meaning how he stopped, but he claims he’s no longer smoking.
The way I interpreted his ramblings about quitting smoking ~ he needed meds to do it – one of which made him mellow, i.e, high.

Gerry credits his ability to stop smoking to the trip to Switzerland and perscriptions for chantix and propanolol.

He said he started when he was out with Russell Crowe and some other actors who were all smoking. He thought, what the heck, I’ll just have one, and he fell off the wagon that night.

By the way, propanolol isn’t an opiate, it doesn’t make you high. It’s a beta blocker, a med for high blood pressure. It makes you mellow because it lowers your blood pressure, but it doesn’t give you a high.
Crude, lewd, vulgar – and that’s in public. God knows what they are like off camera. There used to be a UK talk show called Parkinson, in which Michael P did real in-depth conversations with his guests and the audience gained real insight. There has been nothing comparable since. Though these people seem to be about as deep as a puddle so perhaps there’s nothing to draw out.
Also, withdrawal from smoking and other substances often causes temporary high blood pressure. It’s very common to prescribe a BP med while someone is withdrawing from an addictive substance. Controlling blood pressure can often prevent a lot of the symptoms of withdrawal – headaches, anxiety, insomnia, etc. Once withdrawal is over, BP returns to normal, and you go off the med.
Just to add, that it is a pity that his rather childish and inadequate personality can’t match his outstanding good looks.
There I was thinking I hadn’t accomplished enough, as if I could compare my life to a celebrity (GB), and I am trying to lose weight and you take up smoking and cheat. I could do that, but it gives me a headache and I don’t want my kids seein me do it. Some morals outway others, and I’d feel guilty for admiring and checkin GB out. Mmph!

@oy: This is all Hollywood, peeps. Whitney did what she does. Butler did what he does. Leno did what he does. Would have been nice if Leno didn’t insist Gerry rehash his ancient history that everyone has heard a gazillion times. But that’s SHOWBIZ!

I’m going to watch that again when I get a chance. I was having a hard time keeping my eyes open last night even though he looked so handsome. Yes, he and Whitney and even Leno started to resort to some low-brow humor. But I always find that Gerry rarely initiates these conversations. Now once they start, he jumps right in. But he usually conforms to the conversation and atmosphere that is established by someone else. Whitney was definitely baiting him with her humor and flirting. And he joined right in. What I remember was pretty funny and ultimately playful and harmless.
Well, it wasn’t a rehash of ancient history to me. I never heard the story about GB and his half-brother before. I didn’t know he had a half-brother.
Nobody hooked up. It’s all a big act to snow the viewers. SHOWBIZ.
