    He really needed you to find this link Manny (loser).

    Gerry isn’t what he used to be. He is getting old and he needs an actual hit movie or else he will soon be forgotten. I’m surprised anyone remembers him now.

    Whitney flirted with him through out her whole interview lol

    @CC: It’s called acting, CC. Did you notice how quickly she put down her cup when he said he had drunk from it? She didn’t want his cooties.

    @Swansong: yes I know, just like the way he was acting when he said she was pretty.

  • cubedweller

    Just caught the Tonight Show. Words fail me (almost). Basically all about Butler until the film clip at the end of his segment. Then some pretty lewd antics with that Whitney girl during her segment. A little of her goes a long way. I felt a little ill at all the jokes about what a slvt he is. Um – what about the movie?????
    .
    The good news is, Butler owned up to falling off the wagon and smoking for about a month. I have no clue what he was going on about – meaning how he stopped, but he claims he’s no longer smoking.

  • Tintagel

    The way I interpreted his ramblings about quitting smoking ~ he needed meds to do it – one of which made him mellow, i.e, high.

  • Tintagel

    @cupcake: He’d do it, she wouldn’t

  • oy

    I do love the irony of Citizen Cooch sitting next to someone named Cummings.

  • BrookeLondon

    yes frammie was there along with all the phannies

  • alanis

    Gerry credits his ability to stop smoking to the trip to Switzerland and perscriptions for chantix and propanolol.
    .
    He said he started when he was out with Russell Crowe and some other actors who were all smoking. He thought, what the heck, I’ll just have one, and he fell off the wagon that night.
    .
    By the way, propanolol isn’t an opiate, it doesn’t make you high. It’s a beta blocker, a med for high blood pressure. It makes you mellow because it lowers your blood pressure, but it doesn’t give you a high.

  • Westie

    Crude, lewd, vulgar – and that’s in public. God knows what they are like off camera. There used to be a UK talk show called Parkinson, in which Michael P did real in-depth conversations with his guests and the audience gained real insight. There has been nothing comparable since. Though these people seem to be about as deep as a puddle so perhaps there’s nothing to draw out.

  • alanis

    Also, withdrawal from smoking and other substances often causes temporary high blood pressure. It’s very common to prescribe a BP med while someone is withdrawing from an addictive substance. Controlling blood pressure can often prevent a lot of the symptoms of withdrawal – headaches, anxiety, insomnia, etc. Once withdrawal is over, BP returns to normal, and you go off the med.

  • Westie

    Just to add, that it is a pity that his rather childish and inadequate personality can’t match his outstanding good looks.

  • Cat9

    There I was thinking I hadn’t accomplished enough, as if I could compare my life to a celebrity (GB), and I am trying to lose weight and you take up smoking and cheat. I could do that, but it gives me a headache and I don’t want my kids seein me do it. Some morals outway others, and I’d feel guilty for admiring and checkin GB out. Mmph!

    @oy: This is all Hollywood, peeps. Whitney did what she does. Butler did what he does. Leno did what he does. Would have been nice if Leno didn’t insist Gerry rehash his ancient history that everyone has heard a gazillion times. But that’s SHOWBIZ!

  • angelsrock

    @cubedweller:

    I’m going to watch that again when I get a chance. I was having a hard time keeping my eyes open last night even though he looked so handsome. Yes, he and Whitney and even Leno started to resort to some low-brow humor. But I always find that Gerry rarely initiates these conversations. Now once they start, he jumps right in. But he usually conforms to the conversation and atmosphere that is established by someone else. Whitney was definitely baiting him with her humor and flirting. And he joined right in. What I remember was pretty funny and ultimately playful and harmless.

  • Kim

    Well, it wasn’t a rehash of ancient history to me. I never heard the story about GB and his half-brother before. I didn’t know he had a half-brother.

  • curious cat

    Nobody hooked up. It’s all a big act to snow the viewers. SHOWBIZ.

  • Kim

    @angelsrock:
    He looked incredible!! :D

  • WTH

    He s hotter than usual lol

  • angelsrock

    @Kim:

    I had actually wondered that being that his dad had remarried.
    I wonder if they still keep in touch. I wonder if his step-mom is still living.

  • http://paisley3691.livejournal.com paisley3691

    @angelsrock: Hello!…don’t know who was wondering, but Gerry’s dad passed away years ago if I remember right. Sometime around Gerry’s early twenties. I have no idea about step-mom though.

  • Cat9

    I will put foot back in my mouth. I saw the clip and it wasn’t the way I had perceived from reading this jj. I saw his glide down clip a while back, sorry GB.

  • kelly

    omg he looks great loving the hair i didnt at first but his hair looked great i just want to run my finger throught that lovely mess and he sure looks handsome when he cleans up luv ya gerry keep up the good work

  • angelsrock

    @paisley3691:

    Yes, I did know about his dad passing of cancer. But he’s never mentioned his step-mom except when he told a story of her going to Africa to visit his dad. He told that story years ago on Leno I think.

  • Appilonia G. MontiNegro

    @paisley3691: Paisley, thank you soooo much for all the interview clips you posted on your website! All JJer’s click onto Paisley and it will go to her website and see all these wonderful interviews of Gerry she posted if you have not seen one they are there, WOW, just wonderful. I just loved this interview on Jay Leno! Gerry looks so wonderful and happy and healthy. Gerry was very playful and having some fun with Whitney, LOL, Yes she is beautiful and playful as well, lol. I am one of the unlucky ones that MGP will not be showing in my area. I will have to wait. Hopefully someone will get me a DVD of it and send to me, lol…. Just think that Gerry is finally found his Juice, lol Appilonia G. MontiNegro

  • wiki

    @Kim: It was mentioned in a bio that is out there in cyberspace. Believe his name is Sean. Seems Gerry has never mentioned the half brother before and you can understand it, you might not be too fond of the child your father had with his second wife who got to have Dad around all the time. Especially if the second wife was the cause of the divorce with Mom. If the half brother still lives in Toronto wonder if Gerry saw him during TIFF.

  • GFW

    There’s a change that’s come over him. Even here one can notice it. Not that he no longer is totally casual on these shows like once before but his demeanor has raised to a more mature level, yet letting his natural humor shine.
    -
    Great interview even getting to speak to the movie! No worries if he’d borrowed a story from the Stern interview, he was lively, interesting and naturally his animated jiggly self. No complaints! No on to Ferguson next! Keep ‘im comin’. :o)

  • Appilonia G. MontiNegro

    @wiki: I hope Gerry takes every opportunity to see his half brother. Gerry is a good man and a good person I am sure he would want to hang out with his half brother. I am sure that he knows that things happen in a persons life and it is not Seans fault. Things happen, and it is not smart to blame a child….Gerry is a smart man, he loves family and so I would guess he would see Sean at least I hope so. Appi

  • Dragonette

    The back-and-forth between Whitney and Geebs was probably the freshest thing to hit Leno’s stage in years. And yes, the bar is that low.

    I think I could come up with a pretty good drinking game for every Gerry interview: one shot for every time he mentions quitting smoking, two shots for every time he mentions his drunken past, three shots for law school, etc, etc. On the brighter side, his hair looked FAAAAABULOUS.

  • curious cat

    Some interesting comments here. But gosh darn. I had to wonder if I was on something myself or losing my marbles when I read back and saw I had replied to a comment by “cupcake” that doesn’t seem to be there. But then I saw “tintagel” did too. Evidently comments DO disappear from these threads for whatever reason. :) G’day y’all. Have a good one.

  • GFW

    Something sets him apart from the rest.

  • movie reviews

    @Dragonette: well to be fair, he was asked, he did not bring them up on his own? Leno has been on him about smoking, so he would ask. People just do not have good questions I guess, but I was happy about the smoking issue.

  • Em

    This should really be a Whitney Cummings story! She was great and they all went with it. Good luck to her this fall!

  • GFW

    I was very excited to hear after 4 years, and only one month off, he’s back off them. He’s the will power and inventive resources to help with all his ‘issues’ he wishes to tackle. The rumor I heard was he picked it up filming Machine Gun Preacher but this squashes that since we remember him at the table with Russell so maybe he went out with the group then surrounded said what he did? Makes sense.
    -
    His daring daredevil stunts (I’m trying not to let bother me) are a tad on the high risk side hoping he can find something to alter that need for such, pardon the irony, high excitement. :o)

    I appreciate his respectful tone when speaking about the movie. I couldn’t believe, as good of a storyteller as he has been in interviews, that he stumbled through describing the movie and Sam. Again, he didn’t mention why Sam was doing what he was doing, i.e., saving kidnapped kids, orphans who parents had been murdered during the ongoing conflict, etc. A little prep would have been helpful IMO. He seemed more interested in his little anecdotes than promoting the movie IMO.
    .
    The smoking story was an interesting twist for me. Apparently his team listens to the pulse of the fans and big daddy felt he needed to explain. Quite a conviluted explanation but apparently he answers to his public.
    .
    For me personally, I am so tired of listening to his self-destructive stories. Why can’t he talk about what this role might have changed in him and his perceptions. I would have found that so much more interesting. I’m sorry but getting hit by props in a movie is a stupid story and dull IMO. The Waah Waah over a boo boo was ridiculous…
    .
    And boy did he get thrown under the manwh*re bus last night. Whitney’s quip about pictures on bus benches was absolutely hilarious and Butler’s reaction was priceless. Something to the effect, “…and people sit on your faces, likes happens to you a lot.” Then Leno, what a bud, threw him no mercy with his quip, “Oh great now I have STDs.” Maybe Butler will rethink staying out there on the couch to be fodder for another’s interview.
    .
    As for chemistry between Butler and Whitney, didn’t see it. She was about as into him as a man as a oil to water, just doesn’t mix IMO. She was playing to an audience and using Butler, unwillingly, as her straight man.
    .
    Butler took a beating last night IMO. He looked better than he has in a while. Hopefully his team took notes and he will sell this movie better with the next interview.

    @Em:

    I became an instant fan of Whitney’s last night. I’m excited to see her new show.

  • Earlyautumn’s Eve

    Whitney’s a cute gal. She reminds me of a hyper Fran Drescher! I saw some chemstry but it was strange. I think she was totally taken by him, perhaps his looks if that was the first time she met him. His comment about her being better than “regular pretty” was endearing but Butler gets easily attracted to pretty women and she’s his physical type albeit prob too feisty for him. She’s prob heard of his rep too but was trying to process it all!

    Jay’s STD comment was crass and the audience was put off by it. Not a nice thing for him to say but I think it just came out. Gerry looked a bit embarrassed.

    I think Gerry tries to answer the questions he’s asked. I don’t think it’s entirely his fault that he talks about the same things sometimes. It’s the line of questioning he keeps getting. I think it’s pretty much the norm with most actors even promoting a movie.

  • Manny

    @Earlyautumn’s Eve:
    .
    Watch the clip I just posted Eve. It is cringeworthy at best and you can see that Whitney was milking attention and embarrassed by Butler’s backstage rubbing. As for crass, again watch the new clip. When Jay refers to you as two dogs in a park… well … need I to say more…
    .
    As for questions he is asked, Leno asked him to name the most dangerous thing he ever did. Butler went on and on about three things. Ugh. I’m tired of the recycled stories and answers. Interviewees are not hostages to the host of an entertainment talk show. Butler could have steered it any direction he wanted… But no… Let’s talk about his movie boo boo.
    .
    As for the movie, Butler could have had really a good conversation going about the movie, Leno presented him the format and was respectful to the type of movie. Butler didn’t take the invitation IMO.

  • curious cat

    @Manny:

    Manny, I thought your comment ws thoughtful and right on, don’t know why I saw 4 thumbs down. But wtf, who can explain anything here.

    Did everyone see the whole interview? Including the part where Whitney plunked herself down on GB’s lap and told Jay she would be interviewed from there? It was after that that she said she was pregnant, not just by sitting next to him. I thought this seemed unclear in the JJ presentation here. (Just in case someone didn’t see the whole thing.)

    I, too, would have liked to hear more about MGP and what was involved in producing it than all this banter about risky things he’s done in his youth. But it’s late night talk show and the interviews…well, educational they’re not most of the time. I’m glad he’s stopped smoking again. One has to keep trying to kick these bad habits, whether it’s smoking, alcohol, drugs, or eating too much. If you fall off the wagon, you climb back on, don’t just give up. Didn’t GB say he’s quit smoking 40 times? Maybe the 41st time it will take. In any case, every day he doesn’t smoke is a plus.
