Alexander Skarsgard: 'Melancholia' NYC Premiere!

Alexander Skarsgard and Kirsten Dunst attend the premiere of Melancholia on Monday (October 3) at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall in NYC.

The 29-year-old actress wore a Chloe dress and Sonia Rykiel shoes for the event, which was held during the 49th annual New York Film Festival, while Alex suited up in YSL.

Guests, who also included Alex and Kirsten‘s co-star Charlotte Gainsbourg, were seen sipping Apothic Red wine.

The cast then headed over to the DeLeon Tequila-sponsored after party held at the Stone Rose Lounge, where Alex chatted up 30 Rock‘s Jack McBrayer. (They hung out backstage when Alec Baldwin hosted the Saturday Night Live season premiere on September 24.)

Damn!!!! Does he ever not look good?!? Kiki looking good as well
I hope this movie is released around here!

# 2

Alex and Kirsten look so good together! His hair is getting longer. I hope he doesn’t have to cut it for The East next month so he can grow it out.

PurpleSamantha @ 10/03/2011 at 11:17 pm

No one looks particularly happy to be there.

# 4

love charlotte style, alex looks hot, kirsten always chic, agree with purplesamantha

# 5

Alex sure wears a suit well!

# 6

Holy…something. Alex looks so hot. Kiki looks amazing. I really can’t wait to see this movie :)

# 7

Sigh…I get spoiled with daily Alex in aug/sept only to have it taken away. So cruel JJ. So cruel.

Anyway…Hello yummy!!!! Love it when he suits up!

# 8

Seems like Alex doesn’t mind posing on the red carpet with these co-stars. He looks great with Kiki! I’m sure Melancholia will make more than the $9.7M Straw Dogs before it was pulled from major theaters.

# 9

Good lord. This man can REALLY wear a suit. YUM!

@ Iko – Melancholia is a small art house film. It will only have a limited release. As such it is not expected to make a lot of money.

It just amazes me how absolutely gorgeous he looks and continues to look.
Whenever I see him in a suit, I feel like he is wearing it just for me.
Okay, calm down you 2 creature fans it is a joke, but boy can that man pull off a suit.
I am so happy so see what is happening to him finally, if any actor deserves all this good, boy oh boy it is him.
He is just sooo talented and what amazes me even more is that he just keeps getting better.

What is wrong with this man? He seems sick. Pale and gaunt…something is not right.

bleecker street @ 10/04/2011 at 1:43 am

Gorgeous film. May not be for everyone, but it was amazing IMO. Superbly cast, flawlessly performed, and heartbreakingly real despite a slightly surreal landscape. And that guy up there is one talented, beautiful man.

danielik25 @ 10/04/2011 at 2:07 am

I love him and Kiki together. Melancholia is great and interesting film. And the best is that Alex has four movies for next year already and 5. season of Tb of course. More Alex. more happiness for women!

Ahhh, he has the most amazing, interesting eyes. They look ethereal. And Kirsten looks great too.

Small art house movie or not I think it will do better than Straw Dogs that had a wide release but only made $9.7M according to Box Office Mojo which stopped tracking it after that. I would also pay for the Melancholia dvd as I’m sure many others will.

PurpleSamantha @ 10/04/2011 at 3:42 am

Seriously, I got four thumbs down?? Am I the only one who thinks they all look like they want to get it over with? They all look wonderful individually, just not like they’re having a great time.

@lauren: You’re right in that they all look a little stressed. And Gainsbourg has odd body language going on in the pix, both with Alex and Kiki.

Is his hair looking a bit like the the colour isn’t coming out completely after a wash to anyone else?

Alexander say befor i want girl to do pleas slig find any girl

Please go find go girl your love dont broken

he have girlfrind anna paquin

Here are pictures looking very happy here. I don’t know why JJ doesn’t post those.

PurpleSamantha @ 10/04/2011 at 4:58 am

Alex does look happier than Kiki and Charlotte.

@Iko: Box Office didn’t stop tracking it, it’s on this weekend’s list.
Canuck, it does look like the rinse isn’t completely washing out. Could also be the lighting. I think that he looks tired, not stressed.

It wasn’t there Monday morning or else I would have given the $10M figure. This is the now defunct link I read off another forum which did not have it listed.…/?yr=2011&wknd=39&p=.htm

Btw, why aren’t they showing its rank?

@ladybug: Could be tired too. None of them seem to have smiling eyes though. Possibly they were being asked questions about LVT’s comments again?

KIrsten & Alexander are so cute. I’m so excited to see melancholia in 4 days :)

Buttercup @ 10/04/2011 at 8:04 am

ew, Alex looks like a corpse here

Buttercup @ 10/04/2011 at 8:06 am

btw Charlotte is stunning!

@Iko: Looks like they stop ranking after #15 (apparently they want us to count or something!)
Kenneth the Page looks happy to see him:

He looks very handsome, but he does look tired, poor thing. I hope he gets to relax at some point, but it doesn’t seem likely. That suit looks great btw! Now I know what the YSL fitting was for.

sweetness @ 10/04/2011 at 9:46 am

he’s sooo YUMMY!

He looks great in that suit, but the colour of the shirt is washing him out a bit. I think that’s why he looks a bit more tired here, just the shirt washing him out.

Also, I think it’s mostly the lighting that is making his hair darker, because there are some pics where it’s more blonde.

@Camille: Yeah, the shirt isn’t doing much for him. He should probably stay away from the tan/sand/beige tones.

ITA. The shirt is awful colour and it makes him look pale as a vampire ha ha ha and that shade of grey is too light for him. It should be dark gray or blue gray. And poor thing looks definetly tired. I would like to hug him.
Melancholia was indeed amazing. Hard to forget. I saw it like month ago and still thinking of it. Alex was only in the first half of film but he was great, so gentle and kind man and totally different from Eric of True Blood or Charie of Straw Dogs. You gotta love him. Also Kirstin made her best performance of her career so far. She was phenomenal and really believable as was all the other actors too.

Funny thing :D @ 10/04/2011 at 12:53 pm

Anyone noticed the lack of negative comments of the certain haters on this thread? Obviously they are too busy voting Stephen Moyer and Joe Manganiello at Scream Awards! Don’t forget to vote for Alex as the best horror actor 2011!

@That’s me:
Well, I don’t think it’s grey because he actually usually looks good in grey. It’s more of a sandy beige colour to me. Which totally washes his skin tone out. It’s funny, it’s almost the exact same colour as his hair. LOL! I want to see Melancholia, but they won’t bring it here. I’d have to drive to the next city to see it.

I agree, it’s just too much blonde/beige. It’s monotone. I don’t think it looks good unless you have a tan if you’re blonde.

I kind of like the tan shirt with the suit, nice change, a little different. Agree his hair looks darker like it is keeping some of the Disconnect color?? I saw comments on another site from someone who was there that he looked more tan and the suit looked more teal in color in person. So maybe the flash changes the colors a bit? Anyway, IMO he looks great and I love it that the movie is getting favorable reviews. I think he is so proud of this one, he’ll be happy it is being well received.

@Funny thing :D: thanks for the reminder and link. Will go vote. Also — forgot to say how nice both the women look. Very different looks but like C’s fancy pants and K’s lovely classic dress.

@Camille: @ladybug: @That’s me: I’m glad it’s not just me who isn’t loving that shirt. The blue suit is fabulous, the brown shirt with it is not so happy.

@That’s me:
The film is indeed hard to forget; seeing even the crescent moon hanging in the sky freaked me out a little after seeing Melancholia. Bits of the film keep coming back to me, mainly how stunning Kirsten Dunst is; she has the most amazing skin, and also how the end of the world looked and sounded. I loved the colour palate too; all subdued and earth tones.
I’m half tempted to go back to the cinema to watch it again, no matter how good the home blu-ray surround sound is it’ll never match the big screen and the sound system that shook the floor of the cinema in the bits that mattered. Odd that this is the premiere when we’ve already got it in the UK – usually we’re months behind you!
Btw; I’m not a fan on the tan. Someone needs to remind Skars that green is his best colour. ;)

@Funny thing :D: Shhh… don’t mention them or they may come back.

@Debbie: I like him better in blue, matches and brings out his eyes, but then again green brings them out also.

I actually like the shirt, idk. I don’t think it looks so bad. I think the combination of the orange in the background and the shirt is what is making his hair look darker.

“he looks so good in a suit”
…works for every male celebrity, LOL

@Canuck: @Debbie:
I generally think blonde people shouldn’t wear beige tones, because it’s just too much beige. Skin, hair, outfit etc. He needs some colour to give him some pop.

Ugh, I’m trying to watch the crappy quality upload of SD on youtube and I just can’t. She ruins it for me. I just cringe everytime she opens her damn mouth. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to watch the movie because she annoys me so damn much.

As an aside; Melancholia is in the UK top 15 despite being a limited release and only shown from Sunday onwards; my mate in the north can’t find a cinema that shows it until the end of the month.

@Camille: Quite true. But he’s wearing the h*ll out of that YSL suit.

That he is! The man knows how to wear a suit that’s for sure.

@Camille: No jacket off, afterparty pix?

I am in South East England and would have to go in to London to see it, so will have to wait for the DVD unfortunately

@Macy: I’ll watch on dvd, but I’ll turn the volume off, the subtitles on, and have the finger on the fast-forward button.
This amuses me:

I guess not but according to JJ’s twitter he was handing out smooches. JJ got one, and so did some other girl.

It will probably be the same thing for me too. I just don’t know if I can stomach it. LOL, I read that also. “I didn’t do sh*t” He’s got a great sense of humour.

@Camille: He does have an excellent sense of humor, which is impressive since English isn’t his native language.
As for the movie, I’ll be fastforwarding certain parts, and not just because of a certain actress. Not too sure I’ll be able to handle the siege scenes.

I’m not so sure those parts will bother me, as I’ve got a pretty decent stomach for that type of thing but she will bother me something fierce. It’s not just her either, there are lots of actors and actresses that I just can’t stand, so I don’t watch their movies/shows. Katherine Heigl is one, Gerard Bulter is another. Just can’t stomach them so I stay away.

@Camille: I think it’s the siege in combination with KB. I don’t like Heigl or Butler either (I suspect Heigl’s ruined the movie of the first Stephanie Plum novel). I hope that if Alex ever does a rom-com it’s not with either Heigl or Kate Hudson.

I really dislike rom coms on principle, so I don’t like many of the actors who continually make them. It’s just not a genre that I have any interest in. KB has just always bothered me, even before Alex. I never watched her movies, outside of Blue Crush before I knew who she was. She’s just a terrible actor.

AS is the only man that can pull off that color combination and look absoultely amazing. The man is a true force of nature.

Also, I will never understand why some people find the need to comment on his parts. AS is an actors actor, which means he can be in one scene or the entire movie, the point being, when that man is on the screen he owns it.

That is what makes him a true actor not just some fly by night
character actor; he takes over the entire movie when he walks on screen and does it in such a way that he just adds to the film, while not letting his co stars feel bad.

I love how now that Joe M thinks he is something, he dumps his gf who he had planned to marry and couldn’t stop talking about. The funniest is that his family told him to because they said she was after his money and was using him for fame (Boy, that sounds familiar, we write about the fame thing and he copies it, maybe he should get his own things). He truly is starting to seem quite sad and desparate, maybe he should look up a certain tumor, they both love to call the paps.

AS makes real movies and wants his films to mean something,
Joe M wants to be in any movie in which he gets to take his shirt off.

Let us hope that AS keeps up his winning ways at this years Scream Awards, because like I have said before he deserves everything he gets and is awarded.

He is truly is the whole package.

@Camille: don’t blame you. I saw Straw dogs and really liked it though, despite her. I thought she kind of played herself LOL. Bit irritating yes, but knowing she was past history helped. Alex’ performance was excellent and worth watching the movie just to see it. He really sold his character of Charlie as NOT such a bad guy, you could understand and sympathize with where Charlie was coming from.

I watched the crappy quality clips on youtube. I didn’t really care for the movie, not even because of her, but because I just didn’t find it that good. I wasn’t overly interested in anything other than watching what Alex did. The other parts of the film didn’t really hold my interest, which was surprising because I thought they would. I ended up skipping a lot of it. I just couldn’t get into it at all. Alex did a really good job though, and he looked fantastic. I agree, KB was just playing her annoying, attention wh*re self. Her character drove me nuts, with the feet in her husbands face, etc. Get a hobby lady, your husband is trying to WORK!

Can you put up a link, cuz’ I can’t find it on youtube :(

I will have to agree that everyone looks tired, but it could also just be everyone is busy to! Movies that each actor or actress is working on and I am sure Mr. Skarsgard is very home sick. I think the break up was very hard on him and the stress of dealing. This is why celebrities need to date other people that are not famous. You are used up until a person gets what they want. I know lots of pretty girls and guys who don’t want anything to do with money or fame. (Clooney’s cocktail mate is the exception, almost everyone in Las Vegas is trying to get a head).
