Amanda Knox Freed After Jury Overturns Murder Conviction

Amanda Knox breaks down in tears after a jury overturns her murder conviction on Monday (October 3) in Perugia, Italy.

The 24-year-old from Seattle, Wash., and her Italian ex-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, won their appeal after they were initially sentenced to 26 years and 25 years in jail, respectively, for the 2007 stabbing of Amanda‘s roommate Meredith Kercher.

Earlier in the day, Amanda told the appellate court jury of eight Italians that she “did not do the things they said I did. I did not kill, rape or steal. I was not there.”

Amanda and Raffaele spent nearly four years in prison but both maintained their innocence in the brutal murder of the 21-year-old British student.

“We’re thankful Amanda‘s nightmare is over. We’re grateful for the support we have received from all over the world,” her sister, Deanna, read in a statement after the verdict was read.
