Johnny Depp Signs on for Dr. Seuss Biopic

Johnny Depp will reportedly be bringing Dr. Seuss to the big screen!

The 48-year-old actor will produce a live-action movie about the life of the classic children’s book author and illustrator “with the potential to star as Seuss,” THR reports.

Universal Pictures will distribute the project, while Keith Bunin (In Treatment) has been tapped to write the screenplay.

Dr. Seuss (a.k.a. Theodor Geisel)’s most well-known books include “Green Eggs and Ham,” “The Cat in the Hat,” “One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish,” “Horton Hears a Who!” and “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!”

    I am tired of Johnny playing character-cartoony types. Starting to wonder if he can play ordinary men parts (The Tourist did not show that). Wish some other actor would take this part.

    Really?? But then JD will feel like he is being “raped” when he is having his pic taken when it’s time to promote this movie. Major spoilt rich ungrateful douche to me now.

    no Says:

    NO JOHNNY DON’T DO IT!
    If you keep making movies, you will have to pose at more photoshoots!!!
    How can you keep taking such VIOLATIONS!!!
    This a$$hole will never get another dime from me.

    Are you guys kidding??
    JD is the most genius one to be cast. All his films are a high caliber of art and intelligence.He is a master.
    re: that rape comment, he did not mean it like that! lol
    lighten up PC world. darn..a celeb cannot say anything anymore.
    It will be our loss because they WILL give less & less interviews.
    Including our coolest Brad Pitt.

    I loved reading both these guys interviews & some anal PC bore took it out of context & it went viral.

    Where the hell is Freedom of Speech on American soil?
    (some cultures they do believe being photographed is like loosing your soul)
    think about it.

    Johnny is a great actor, gorgeous, and can play any role, but comparing a photo shoot as to being raped, Pretty disgusting on your part Johnny.!

    @7 Says:

    All his films are high caliber art? Are you kidding me? POTC4 = intelligent? HA!
    He has done nothing but garbage for so long that he doesn’t even know how to act anymore. He is in it for the paycheck, not for the ‘art’.
    And no, his comments were not taken out of context. He said it. Period. Just like he said that those mean prosecutors should leave poor little Roman Polanski alone.
    Oh, and freedon of speech on American soil? A right defended with the blood of American souldiers? He has p*ssed on them, too with more idiotic statments in the past.
    Freedom of speech means that you have a right to voice your opinion. But it also gives us the right to voice our opinion about what is said. And I will be voicing my opinion by not buying any tickets for his films ever again.

    Johnny Depp is the most versatile and most talented Actor of our time….Any movie they ask Johnny to act in, well lets just say no other actor can stand up to Johnny’s God Given Talent..

    Rob Says:

    @katie:

    Christian Bale, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Heath Ledger, Ethan Hawke… and a couple more that are much better than him from this generation.

    Then include the older guys like Brando, De Niro, Pacino, Dustin Hoffman, Jack Nicholson etc…

    He’s good… but, nothing special.

    @13 Says:

    Johnny used to be a good actor. Now he is just lazy. All of his characters are so over the top that he thinks that he doesn’t even have to try anymore.
    That, and his last comments, have turned this one time fan against him

    He did well in Public Enemies.

    Rob
    Heath Ledger was only 29 when he passed away. They’re not in the same generation. No one was adding his name in list of great actors prior to The Dark Knight. Now I see it all the time. Why?

    Get a clue Says:

    He is just like most actors in Hollywood. They are isolated from the real world. For Mr. Depp to have the nerve to cry about a photo shoot “raping him” is self indulgent. Rape victims are not asked and not paid for being assaulted without their consent. Shame on him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Leandro Says:

    I was a huge JD fan, his edgy dramas and thrillers. Now he puts out **** like Pirates and The Tourist. I cant understand his obsession with Tim Burton, which their collaborations have really produced some stinkers and stupid character acting…IMO like Willy Wonka, Sweeney Todd, AIW, and most likely Dark
    Shadows Barnabas Collins will be on my modt hsted list. Bring back the old JD of FInding Neverland, Secret Window and From Hell! Until then, I’ve crossed him off my must see list!

    So Johnny, a father of a young girl, supports a known, violent pedophile, and now compares rape with getting your picture taken?
    Is there an internatioaln version of Child Protective Services?
    I worry that he is not going to be the proper, protective father for his daughter.
    Fathers are supposed to keep their children safe. Protected from evils in the world. Not inviting them for dinner.
