Amanda recently spoke with British Glamour about botox.

“Living in a society where there’s so much attention given to age-defying products, I’m really aware of how my face is changing, even at my age,” Amanda said to the mag (via the SF Chronicle).

“People I don’t know so well have told me I need Botox, and those people I’ve ignored because although it’s accepted now, the research isn’t there yet,” Amanda stated about the procedure.

    Love Amanda Seyfried, very attractive and sexy. There’s a lovely gentleness and sweetness to her.

  • Dieter

    She is so intelligent !!!

  • ha ha

    i hope she sticks to that good attitude.

  • BEAN

    Of course there has been research. The Fda wouldn’t have approved it otherwise. Everyone knows botox for cosmetics now but it does a lot more than that medically. She was obviously trying to be clever, and good on her for saying no to cosmetic procedures, buy it’s her who hasn’t done research.

  • bobbyweiner

    She is only 25, no duh no botox

  • hehe

    @BEAN:

    Actually most of these companies get independent testing on their products which are not always accurate, why else do you think their are so many commercials on TV for lawyers launching huge lawsuits against these companies

  • Poo

    Dumb. Her comment started out okay, and then went to Dumboland. The research isn’t there yet?? What an idiot.

  • To poo

    Poo:

    Quite the contrary. She is actually quite correct in saying the procedure requires more research. At the moment, there are MANY risks involved with using a very dangerous toxin in any procedure, cosmetic or otherwise. Botulinum toxin is a very dangerous and potent toxin, and any time you decide to introduce such a dangerous toxin into the body, there can be many adverse reactions including (but not limited to) respiratory failure and death.

    Before you so eloquently state that someone who is more intelligent than yourself went to “Dumboland” you might want to do a little research yourself on the matter at hand.

    You sir, are a troglodyte.

    Amanda Seyfried > you

  • Amanda

    Not eloquently spoken, but she is absolutely correct. I interpreted what she said as the research isn’t there yet to establish whether there will be any consequences for using botox. You need only remember all the drugs (previously approved by the FDA), now pulled because in the long wrong, they have had detrimental effects on the health (or lives) of consumers. Thalidomide and Vioxx just being examples. Only time will tell.

    @To poo:

    Your explanation sounds like fluff. Yes, one can make the obvious statement that toxins could create adverse effects. But her comment said the research isn’t there yet, when in fact there is research, a lot of it, on botox.

    Do you know how botox works? Well, I’d love to tell you about it!

    Botox inhibits the SNARE complex. Wrinkles are caused by t-SNARE and v-SNARE interaction, and acetylcholine is released into the neuromuscular junctions space from synaptic vesicles what causes the contraction between the 2 muscles. Over time, you get the lines, but botox disrupts the v- and t-SNAREs so you don’t have acetylcholine being sent and get no more contractions. This degrades SNARE complex and prevents ACh release. There is research!

    Of course, there are side effects, but that is with any drug. Do you say that research isn’t there yet with tylenol or aspirin? No. They too have side effects, but they accomplish what the patient desires.

    Research on botox as therapy started over fifty years ago. Botox now serves multiple purposes, other than for cosmetic surgery. It’s actually really amazing what science has done so far. People use it for muscle spasms, sweating, chronic migraine, or even to lift eyelids to see better. So to say introducing toxins is very dangerous. Think about all the people who benefit from toxin, other than for cosmetic reasons.

    Lastly, I did not say this was a game of intelligence. However, I think her comment was stupid because it stems from ignorance. Her comment as well as yours. I’d love to recommend some articles to you. So think before you speak, or in this case write on some celebrity blog. This is hilarious.

  • Poo

    @Amanda:

    I agree, it’s sad what happened to the Thalidomide babies. But they caught those detrimental effects within 6 or 7 years of approval. Botox has been out there for longer, and I don’t think there haven’t been detrimental effects reported in surgeries done correctly. In botched surgeries, I’d understand, but that’s just a risk with any surgery. Risk for infections and so forth.

    Thank you for your insight, but not being weird about it.

  • Laurie

    what is she going to do with botox at 25 ?? This world is so f**** crazy !!!

  • lil

    botox at 25?????!!!!!wow hollywood is really really insane! and I kind of agree with her! I think that she wanted to say that we don’t know the long term effects of the use of botox! and that’s why I won’t use it either!

  • jessa

    overrated.
