Ashley Olsen: $39,000 The Row Backpack Sells Out!

Ashley Olsen keeps warm in a fur jacket while leaving her hotel on Friday (October 7) in New York City.

Earlier in the week, the 25-year-old fashion designer and twin Mary-Kate came out to support their younger sis, Elizabeth, at a private dinner celebrating her Nylon cover.

A $39,000 alligator backpack from Ashley and MK‘s high-end line, The Row, has sold out.

“It was the first thing that sold off the shelf,” Ashley told WWD at the Paris launch of the new handbag collection last week.

Rich people can afford to buy a $39,000 backpack. The average American can’t even pay off a $10,000 loan.

Oh well. What can you do?

  • Paige

Wow. They’re really set on killing animals in the name of “fashion,” huh?

  • disgrace Olson

    wearing REAL FUR
    and alligator..shame on you!!!!!

there is No reason to do that, we have other fabrics just as warm.
(not sure it’s warmth this biatch needed, the sandals)

  • her

    love her.

  • maggie

comments #1 and #2 are great!! adding to their thoughts: not only selling dead animals but wearing one??? that fur looks very nice and resembles snow leopard which is an endangered animal. Hopefully that fur is fake!

  • Tara

Looking great, and it shows luxury branding is not dead, these things are nuts expensive, but they do sell. And i LOVE her jacket! Now put that in your pipe and smoke it!

  • Audrey

Can this fur trend please go away?

And if you’re someone who likes the look of fur or any animal skin, please buy the faux versions. Thanks!

  • jjabrams

All you anti fur people should realize wearing fur is much better than contributing to the over production of sinthetic/plastics/fake furs that continue to pollute our environment. Not to mention child labor. We are at the top of the food chain. Its nature. Get over it. There are much worser things in this world like child abuse, molestation, slavery, poverty.

  • Elle

I really don´t get this. Not only that the coat looks awful but the fact it is a real fur..shame on her. Today, when we have so many options and people who really love fur, can buy false is really inexcusable. She really needs to see real priorities of life, not just money.

  • adaaa

    omg !! LOOK

  • jjabrams

    just trolls.
fake fur is bad for the environement and is non biodigradable.
We have too many options today and its what is killing our environment. Fur is basic. Biodigradable and lasts longer.
I would rather wear fur than wear fake fur that is probably made through the enslavement of humans through meager wages and child labor in the south.

it’s not sold out. she’s just marketing that crap to sell it because no one pays 39 000 for a backpack.

  • Paige

“Fur is a “natural fiber” when it is on an animal’s back. Once it has been peeled off, it must be “tanned” in order to stop it from biodegrading. This completely unnatural process uses caustic chemicals including formaldehyde and chromium. These are serious environmental contaminants….”

And just because there are other problems in the world does not mean we can’t and shouldn’t be concerned about this one.

  • ck

Im not some super-vegan veggie-peta-nut, but to kill an animal and waste it for fur isn’t right. (I’m also against leather.)stupid bytch.

  • lb

every time i see real fur i think about the animal that died just so that person or celebrity could have that one jacket! I care if i see celebrities wearing fur it gives me an idea of what kind of person they actually are!

p.s. kim-kourtney kardashian, rihanna, beyonce, jho, nicki minaj, madonna, lady gaga also wears real fur.
they are bunch of self-absorbed idiots. they should be disgusted with themselves!!

  • ck

Each year, more than 40 million animals are killed for their fur.

Fur-bearing animals include foxes, minks, rabbits, beavers and raccoons.

To kill animals without damaging their fur, trappers will strangle, beat, or stomp them to death. Animals on fur farms are gassed, poisoned, electrocuted, or have their necks snapped.

Ranch-raised animals live in cages about 2 feet square, with up to four animals per cage.

There is no federal law that regulates the killing of animals raised for fur.

It can take up to 40 animals to make one fur coat.

    p.s.Katy Perry,Rosie Huntington-Whiteley,Rachel Zoe,Sharon Stone, Mary J. Blige also wers real fur.

  • Karih

And I thought it was recession, well not for 1% I guess. And what an idiot to wear fur, can’t believe she and her sister are rich because people like me who used to watch their show… if I knew the people they would become, I would have never found them cute when they were younger and would have done anything to boycott their movies.

  • E. Norma Stitz

Fugly Troll…….I’d bet she and her sister design everything in their useless overpriced handbags cause they’re so freaking talented.

  • Kim

What kind of idiot pays 39K for a backpack?

  • A

@Kim: Even if i had the money i would still not pay that much for a bag, especially not one made out of animal skin.
    Stupid soulless b!tches.

  • ddd

Fake fur isn’t biodegradable?! Oh, and the plastics in your homes, offices &cars are, right? Your mostly synthetic clothes too? And the plastic bags they pack your sh*t in every store ???

Wearing a real fur won’t make you Eco-friendlier, so please don’t justify your ignorance and egoism with this dumb argument.

& jjabrams – please give me one proof that the production of a real fur does not include child labor. that’s the stupidest argument against fake furs i have ever heard.

  • Jasmine

These trolls need to be arrested. They torture and kill animals to make their ugly and obscenely overpriced piles of crap!

  • kar

Wearing fur is just ridiculous in this day and age when we know all about the torture that the animals go through …
Now even dogs are being used for their fur, being skinned alive in China
Shame on all celebs who wear it

  • Jasmine

@Karih: They were never cute kids, they looked like blonde baboons. Now they look like blonde baboons in fur coats.

  • nayah82

Why do they dress so baggy? The clothes they wear is for someone much taller and bigger. Would it kill them to get their clothes alter? smh

  • jk

  • ashlaasdhl

all i gotta say was it was in the 70s in nyc fri- she must be sweating her arse off

  • Simone Luft

    Bad bad ugly girl!

  • laverdadduele

How would she like to be skinned alive so a shallow troll could wear a nice scarf? I don’t care how much money she has, she’s trash.

  • Monkey

That’s disgusting! She is willing to wear that after knowing an animal has been tortured for its fur and she still looks horrible. I’m sick of these girls being called ‘fashion icons’, they don’t know squat about fashion… just because they pay too much for what they wear doesn’t mean they’re fashionable!

  • Charles

These people are crazy…I bet you could find the same thing at Ross for $29,000…

  • Charles

These people are crazy…I bet you could find the same thing at Ross for $29,000…

  • Domino

If I could I would skin her alive and make a nice, Halloween themed shirt for my cat. My cat deserves better though.

  • Lauren

It’s SICK that Jared supports fur. Not only does he post celebrities who wear it but, but actually says sh*t like “keeps warm in a fur jacket” as if that is a lovely thing. Every day this guy gives me more reasons to stop visiting this site, and I am happy to know (from other threads and different reasons) that I’m not the only one.

  • Aims

I agree with Lauren! No longer am I coming to this site! Have been visiting just Jared for years! It is astounding how insensitive and stupid people can be. Don’t they realize these poor animals are kept in the most unthinkable conditions before being electrocuted and skinned alive??!!!! The people who wear and support fur must be soulless

  • Lily

nasty bytch! stop wearing fur!!!! and jared with the “keeps warm in a fur jacket” just disgusting

  • reel life

She is wearing fur?!! Horrible! Marketing high end stuff, when people are standing in lines for jobs! Killing animals not for food, but for vanity? Disgusting. What happened to her!

  • Mia

She should go to Hell because what she is doing to MOTHER EARTH is so cruel.
Just like al the elite, they think they can buy the WORLD with all the money they have..
I wouldn;t watch their shows either if I knew they were going to be these weird, selfish, classless bitches.

  • Scum

    It’s not nature you JACKASS.
Destroying animals for the sake of real fur to use for greedy fashions
does not contribute to the planet.
Lions and tigers are for that NOT THE FASHION INDUSTRY.

  • Olsen Trash

She is a disgusting skank. Ashley believes that this fur coat makes her pretty because her and Mary Scum are the most unattractive women in hollywood today.

  • tommy

Give me a break. Animals are not “skinned alive” or tortured for fur coats. In fact, fur ranches use practices employed by vets and actually treat their animals very well. PETA has used a few videos of dubious origins to manipulate emotions on this issue. The fur industry actually helps control wild animal populations and reduces disease and starvation in those populations. Most of the posters here have seen one side of the story and have their minds made up. There is, however, another side of the story that is not being told. Finally, Ashley has a right to wear whatever she wants to wear.
