Gwyneth Paltrow: 'I Tried to Bribe Paul McCartney'

Gwyneth Paltrow wears a pair of sunglasses while arriving on the Thanks for Sharing set on Friday (October 14) in New York City.

The night before, the 39-year-old actress attended the 10th anniversary screening of her film, The Royal Tennenbaums.

When the film first premiered at the New York Film Festival 10 years ago, the cut featured many Beatles songs, which director Wes Anderson wasn’t able to get the rights for.

“I tried to bribe Paul McCartney. Sex and everything,” Gwyn joked at Thursday’s panel (via MovieFone).

“I ended up taking him bowling, weirdly enough, with Heather Mills, his ex-wife, and Luke Wilson,” she revealed. “Wes put me on a mission. ‘You gotta get the rights!’ He loved the movie, then we went bowling and he said he has nothing to do with the rights.”

Can’t believe she didn’t know McCartney didn’t own the rights to the Beatles songs. It’s been a point of contention with him for decades and the media has capitalized on it.

It is common knowledge that Jackson owns the Lennon/McCartney catalog. And to my understanding, to use the original Beatles preformed songs you have to get the permission of all the Beatles’ estates. You would think that being one of Stella’s best friends she would know that, especially since this goes back to the 80′s.

How wonderful Sir Paul must have felt knowing his company was only wanted to get rights to his music. Classy!

Gwyneth is the perpetual name dropper.

Not only did Michael Jackson own the rights to the Beatles catalogue, it was at Paul McCartney’s advice that MJ started getting into music ownership in the first place. They were working on their collaboration “Say Say Say”, PM told MJ that buying the rights to music was where the real money was in music. Not long after, MJ outbid PM for the rights to the catalogue.

On a related note, there were no more collaborations between those two, after that.

This is the typical GOOP story and the most important part is, she hung out with Paul McCartney. The whole point is to name drop and make sure people know how cool and “in” she believes she is. She is also scoring imaginary points in her delusional, hollywood high school because Wes Anderson didn’t have the connections she has. Much good it did! This chick sucks.
