Henry Cavill: Back to Canada for 'Man of Steel'

Henry Cavill returns up north to get back to work on Man of Steel on Tuesday (November 8) in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

The 28-year-old actor premiered his latest film, Immortals, and dropped by The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, too.

Henry chatted about how intimidating it was to first wear the Superman suit as he auditioned for the role.

“I was a little soft around the edges, and so you don’t feel very super when you’re wearing a Lycra suit and you’ve got a bunch of guys staring at you,” he laughed.

Not to get on anyone’s case, or is it just me or is Henry’s interviewing skills a little bland? No offense to him. I think Henry’s a great actor and an all around good guy. He comes off very friendly and warm, attractive to the ladies and making himself likable as a “guy’s” guy, but he just sounds a little too rehearsed at times.

I know that most of the time guests and Leno have notes on what topics to cover. But to be honest, Cavill had already talked about those things in countless interviews already that the stories seem stale. Granted, the Tonight Show interview went well, but for Cavill fans it just seems like he should have added more.

Aside from the banter between Cavill and Barkin (haha, love how Leno called Barkin a “cougar”), it’s the same old story. I mean, at least add one more thing to the story or change it up…Henry’s publicist, are you listening? You need to work with him on more areas.

i’ve been thinking the same thing and couldn’t agree with you more. i thought the leno interview would be the opportunity to see a different side of henry. but maybe its henry’s way of not letting people into his personal life because he is intensely private… unlike someone else he is really close to, i think you know who i mean hah!

@fj – i’m not asking that he share his private life (relationships or family) in interviews. it doesn’t seem to interest me that much.

i understand henry was probably nervous, with that being his first late night talk show interview and all. i thought he did well! it was nice to hear these topics-
    a. jersey and boarding school. funny joke about “shipping ‘em off.”
    b. no underpants superman joke.
    c. shirtless superman mention.

but…i thought certain aspects of the interview had already been mentioned one too many times such as the-
    a. fat cavill story – men’s health article
    b. meeting of russell crowe interview – already mentioned in an MTV.com interview.
    c. superman audition – entertainment weekly article
    d. close to james bond and twilight roles – another mtv.com interview

i guess that is to be expected with the countless press and promotion for immortals and as henry’s profile rises. my problem is with his publicist. she keeps spinning the same topics. i can’t expect him to be a storyteller, but i think he thrives better with the more on-the-fly, anecdotal stuff in interviews. it’s humbling and more natural. even when he comes up with witty responses to the interviewer’s jokes. it doesn’t sound so repeated. hopefully, he’ll ease in and get comfortable with more interviews when man of steel comes around.

    @mimi c:
I think fj means Henry’s fiancée, Ellen Whitaker. ;)

    SpinCity Says:

No more mention of his fiance Ellen to squelch gay Henry rumors on the internet? Gay superman would have been a disaster in america and the film investors would have a fit. Also Henry’s career would be effectively over in the main stream.

The girl messed up her PR contract when she was charged with a DUI for being twice over the blood alcohol limit. Having a pr team clean horse beating videos and bad interviews where she was ride off the internet isn’t helping. Nor will pulling a PR stunt about how she met a girl with cancer for MakeAWish. Squeaky clean persona destroyed. Children’s horsey game endorsement deals over. This girl is terrible at contracts and doing her job. She has no dignity.

I guess both pr teams are trying to balance the situation. Henry’s PR team picked the wrong “low key non-celeb but wants to be a mainstream celeb for further sponsor money” pony. It all made sense in the beginning by establishing him as the “posh gentleman”, aligning him with the correct brands and sports. Initially the entertainment and sport cross marketing was good for both parties in theory. I think they were even managed by the same agency. I know Henry’s agency has been trying to maintain and develop their sports portfolio. Throwing in a notoriously unreliable Yorkshire brat her controlling money hungry father and arrogant brothers into the mix was not a good idea. I understand why the brits put so much emphasis on “breeding” now.

    Sad, sad story.
