Daniel Craig: 'Skyfall' in Trafalgar Square!

Daniel Craig films scenes for the new James Bond movie, Skyfall, in Trafalgar Square on Saturday (November 19) in London, England.

The 43-year-old British actor reprises his role as 007 in the Sam Mendes-directed flick, which also stars Javier Bardem as the villain.

“It, I think, has all the elements of a classic Bond movie, including, to quell any rumours, a lot of action,” Sam said during a recent press conference.

Though he was tight-lipped on details, Sam shared that British actor Ben Whishaw “will be playing a part I can’t tell you about … and Albert Finney, who will also be playing a part I can tell you nothing about in scenes that I can’t really tell you about and Ralph Fiennes, who, similarly, I can give you very little information about.”

“DreamWorks lost nearly $30 million on Cowboys and Aliens, panned severely by critics. Its Fright Night joined the list of underperformers.”

“Another person familiar with Reliance’s movie operations hinted that there is friction between the company and DreamWorks because of the results so far. Reliance has also ended many deals with stars and is pulling out money from “unviable” contracts, the person said, asking not to be named.

A Reliance spokesman denied that there is any strain between his company and DreamWorks. “Everything is absolutely fine.” He said though Cowboys and Aliens didn’t do well, it was made up with The Help. The perception that the movie deals are not doing well is wrong, he said.”

    Meyer Says:

Hollywood, CA – Mediocre, stunk, crap, sh***y. These are all words used to describe some of Universal’s recent movie releases, though none of them were used by critics or even fans. All of those terms were used by Ron Meyer, the head of the studio which oversaw all the productions, acknowledging what many film lovers had been saying for a long time.

“Forget all the smart people involved in it, it wasn’t good enough. All those little creatures bouncing around were crappy. I think it was a mediocre movie, and we all did a mediocre job with it,” Meyer said of last summer’s flop ‘Cowboys & Aliens’.

Mediocre, stunk, crap, sh***y. – Meyer used the right words for C&A, what a pity he didn’t heard what I saidd before filming Cowboys started, haha, never mind at least he spoke about it now.

    Movies Says:

Why We Can’t Have Great Movies

Universal Pictures chief Ron Meyer caused a splash late last week, when he admitted that “we do make a lot of ****** movies,” and listed Land of the Lost, The Wolfman and Cowboys & Aliens among the studio’s clunkers.

But the really fascinating thing about Meyer’s presentation at the Savannah Film Festival was the insight he gave into why so many movies are crap: there’s a kind of downward spiral where the more movies flop, the more risk-averse the studios become, and the more they make movies that are probably going to flop.

Meyer’s comments came just before Universal had a bad weekend — Universal’s Eddie Murphy comedy Tower Heist crashed and burned at the box office, being beaten by Puss in Boots. Meyer had been trying to set up a controversial deal to release Tower Heist on Video on Demand just a couple weeks after it hit theaters, and now he must be wishing he’d succeeded.

Now Tower Heist looks likely to join a long line of recent flops for Universal, including Dream House, The Change-Up, The Thing, Your Highness, Scott Pilgrim, Repo Men, The Wolfman, Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant, and many others. If it wasn’t for the Fast & Furious and Fockers franchises plus Despicable Me, Universal would have had a pretty dismal last few years.

Movie Line’s account of Meyer’s remarks in Savannah is pretty fascinating, and well worth reading in its entirety. Super briefly, here are the highlights:

    1) He goes into the problems with The Wolfman and Cowboys & Aliens, and says Land of the Lost was “just crap.”

    2) He says 3-D only makes sense for a small number of movies, like the otherwise-unappealing Journey to the Center of the Earth 3-D.

    3) Says that the projects he recently killed, The Dark Tower and At the Mountains of Madness, were just too risky.

    4) Says almost nobody can afford to do what James Cameron did with Avatar, and he’s proud of A Beautiful Mind — but he wouldn’t do it again because he’d rather make money than make critically acclaimed award bait.

What’s interesting is the innate contradiction there — Meyer says, on the one hand, that he hates the fact that his studio puts out ****** movies like Land of the Lost and The Wolfman, or mediocre movies like Cowboys & Aliens. On the other hand, he says that aiming too high, with potentially brilliant projects like Dark Tower, Mountains of Madness, or something visually ambitious like Avatar, is too risky. And he wouldn’t do Beautiful Mind again.

So Meyer wants movies that are better than Cowboys and Aliens, but not as good as A Beautiful Mind. Not mediocre, just not great. (What’s in between mediocre and great? I think the answer to that question would be worth a billion dollars in Hollywood.)

Let’s just state the obvious — Meyer wouldn’t be apologizing for Cowboys and Aliens and Land of the Lost if they had made money. If Land of the Lost had been a runaway hit, he’d be talking about how Land of the Lost 2 was going to be a lot of fun.

It also seems likely that Universal’s recent box office misfortunes have made the studio more risk-averse. Meyer says that Dark Tower and Mountains of Madness were both going to be super-expensive films that might not make enough money back. That calculation might have turned out the same way regardless, but it might be easier to justify a big outlay for a couple of prestige projects if the last several gambles had paid off.
Some fans here were excited about The Dark Tower and Meyer said this project isn’t greenlighted at all.

to 22 - old or new, no matter Says:

Hey, first of all, no matter if news is old or new but it just confirmed the things that I said about Cowboys and Dream House before and that some people, expecially executives and head of the studio, themselves got to sense finally. I am glad that all people working in the film industry now are more careful, learned that famous names have no effect on a film and box office. Some fans were excited that Dream House will be directed by Oscar director Sheridan but I wasn’t impressed by his status because I knew it won’t help to the movie. I wasn’t impressed by names like Favreau, Ford and Craig who were involved in Cowboys&Aliens while fans were too excited and in the end they let Cowboys fail financially. Now the head of Universal said the same and I think most of producers won’t too much trust in big names and maybe there will be more space for more talented and unknown actors. I noticed that Dragon Tattoo is still post-production and they plan to release the movie next month so hopefully all is doing well with Fincher but somehow I doubt, like in the case of Dream House and Cowboys.

    Fio Says:

Rachel Weisz: ‘I’m still a blushing bride’ – It’s been a year of high drama for the actress Rachel Weisz. A whirlwind romance with Daniel Craig and half a dozen films have certainly kept her busy.

Rachel Weisz is talking about the nature of romantic love.
‘Is it heroic to follow your heart, to fall so deeply in love that you don’t have a choice?’ she asks over dinner at a bustling Moroccan restaurant in New York.
We’re on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, close to the home she shares with Daniel Craig and her five-year-old son, Henry (from her relationship with the director Darren Aronofsky).
Weisz herself may have chosen the heart over the head.
Twelve months ago she split up with Darren Aronofsky, her partner of nine years; soon after that it was revealed that she was seeing Daniel Craig, who had split up with his long-term fiancé, Satsuki Mitchell.
Weisz and Craig were married in June this year. But she won’t discuss their relationship with me.
Prior to Aronofsky (who directed Black Swan) the actress had relationships with Neil Morrissey and Sam Mendes and has been quite open about her personal life in the past.
Her current reticence, I suspect, is influenced by the notoriously private Craig.
‘I’m sorry,’ she says with a smile, ‘I’m a newly wed, I’m still a blushing bride and it’s really private. I can’t tell you anything. Come back to me later.’
It is obvious, however, that Rachel Weisz is a woman in love. As she walks towards me striding past cafés, book shops and an ‘Asian Bodywork’ health centre, the spring in her step is plain to see.
She looks radiant, casually dressed in black Earnest Sewn jeans, boots and a black Margiela T-shirt, with her long hair flowing and a dazzling smile lighting up her face.
We find a table in the back of the restaurant with its tiled tables, brick walls, Moroccan lamps and jars full of lentils.
She’s wearing a chunky Rolex and a simple, delicate wedding ring. ‘No engagement ring,’ she says.
She orders chicken tajine, couscous and salad, refusing wine because she’s shooting a scene for her next movie, The Bourne Legacy, at 3am tomorrow.
She rolls her eyes, adding. ‘I do drink wine. I read that I wasn’t drinking alcohol because I was pregnant. It’s not true.’
    Would she like another baby?
‘Absolutely no comment. Oh my Lord, I was asked that recently by a journalist and I think I said, “You never know,” and it was turned into something else entirely. I’m not complaining. I am just realising that anything I say…’
She runs her fingers through her hair and sighs.
Craig and Weisz reportedly became close while filming Jim Sheridan’s new thriller, Dream House, which opens next week. They play a married couple who move to the country and discover that their new home is haunted.
Unsurprisingly, there is great chemistry between the pair. ‘I really enjoyed working with him,’ says Weisz.
‘We have actually known each other a long time, since our early twenties,’ she adds, explaining that they performed together back then in Les Grandes Horizontales, produced by the experimental theatre group Talking Tongues, which she co-founded at Cambridge University.
‘He is a very good actor,’ she says. At which point she puts down a forkful of couscous, looks me squarely in the eye and we both dissolve into laughter.
Weisz has a loud infectious laugh and a sense of humour, but she is not the easiest person to interview.
When I ask a question, it is often parried with another question: do you think what women want from a relationship changes as they get older?
    ‘What do you think?’
Readers are interested in your views not mine – I’m writing a profile piece about you.
    ‘What’s expected in a profile?’
She can also be a bit evasive, worried about words being taken out of context. I ask whether, in her view, children benefit from mothers who have fulfilling careers.
‘I don’t want to make a sweeping statement,’ she sighs. ‘I once said that in the last trimester of my pregnancy I had a glass of red wine; it turned into me supposedly saying pregnant women should drink.’
Any tips from her impressively ripped husband? ‘We’ve been to the gym together but we do very different training,’ she says, laughing.
Beyond that, she can’t reveal anything about the film. ‘Believe it or not, I can talk about Bourne as much as I can talk about my marriage!’
And with that Rachel Weisz gets up to leave, heading home to the spy who loves her, her secrets safe.

Rooney Mara tough time after the recording in Sweden
Rooney Mara can not think of Naomi Rapace – the pressure becomes too great.
And the U.S. version of Lisbeth Salander is suffering from vitamin D deficiency after the time in Sweden, she says in an interview with P4 premiere:
    - It was too dark and cold for me, says Mara of Sweden.

On 21 December it is time for Rooney Mara, 26, to prove themselves in the role of Lisbeth Salander in “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”.
As early as the evening rolls a huge PR machinery in motion in Sweden. For three days, American and director David Fincher film market facing a massive media posse.
    Have felt great pressure

The press has been great for the actress, partly because of Naomi Rapace, 31, role performance in the Swedish films.
    - As soon as I knew I got the role, that I would play that I released all that. It had been too overwhelming, says Rooney Mara on ideas about Rapace in an interview with P4 premiere.

The recording, which largely took place in Sweden, was also tough for Mara.
    - It was too dark and cold for me. I have a lack of vitamin D after having been in Sweden throughout the years, she continues to tell.
For a long time in Sweden

She believes that it was necessary to experience the Swedish winter in order to do the role.
    - I am so happy to have been there. I have read books and saw all the sites that participate in them. I do not think you can understand the character if you do not spend a winter in Sweden, says Rooney Mara on to P4 premiere.
Together with Daniel Craig, 43, who plays Mikael Blomkvist, she has also had to struggle to acquire Swedish accent. She also says the radio station:

    - It was definitely difficult because there is a Swedish accent. Some sounds British, other Swedish. We got to choose how we wanted it to sound, says Mara who believe that Hollywood’s film will draw more audience even to the books and Swedish films.
    “Earnings for All”

    - There is enough profit for everyone. It gives more attention to books and to the Swedish films. More will probably see them now.

WTF?! Runtime will be 152 min? It’s the same runtime as the Swedish version. How disappointing! I’m nervous it may lack the creation of an allusive feeling. I thought the Swedish version lacked in many important scenes and an allusive feeling. In the book, it left the reader with an allusive feeling. The book suggests that one should not forget about the performance which has been done, and should linger depth to the performance. Oh well, wait and see…..

  50. 50
    Runtime Says:

The extended version of the Swedish movie had a run time of 176 and wasn’t better than the theatrical cut. It’s not a question of run time, it’s a question of being able to tell a story in a proper way. I’m not concerned in the slightest that Fincher will just do that: Tell the story in proper way.

  51. 51
    Elle Says:

Yes, I hope so….. Fincher spent 100 million dollars and 1 year on this movie, so I expected much of him. I wish he did not waste the talent of actors/money/time. I want to see the extended version of the American one as soon as possible. Blu-ray, perhaps? After that, I blame Fincher IF the extended version is better than the theatrical cut. I am afraid I have a bad feeling about this but I never want to expect the movie is a letdown. Hope I am wrong!

    Fio Says:

David Fincher talks The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’s Oscar chances
Exclusive: “The reason awards season was created was to sell movies”
Total Film recently got together with David Fincher to discuss The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, and talk turned to the movie’s Oscar chances.

Fincher had a near-miss with The Social Network at this year’s awards; the Facebook movie was a critics’ favourite, but The King’s Speech took home the big awards on the night.

When we asked how he fancied his chances with this TGWTDT, he said, “It’s not really that kind of movie. Although I guess Brokeback Mountain had its share of sodomy…”

So, he doesn’t see it as an Oscar contender then? “Have you read the script?”

“I can’t imagine anyone in their right mind saying ‘Phew! Real Oscar bait!’”

He’s not exactly reverential when it comes to awards either, telling us, “The reason awards season was created was to sell movies. It really is not about ‘What shall we put in the vault?’ It’s a promotional, publicity angle.”

Fincher’s first contact with the story came via the screenplay. Producer Scott Rudin contacted him to say he’d acquired the rights, and that Schindler’s List scribe Steve Zaillian would be writing a script and that he should read the book.

“So I didn’t read it…” laughs Fincher. “I waited until Steve had a script. I was fascinated that something that was so pervy had found its way into mass consciousness.”

“It’s tough. I didn’t choose to make this movie because it had a lot of ugliness in it, but it didn’t dissuade me in the slightest.”

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo opens on 26 December 2011.

    Hi, Elle
    Yeah, according to Reuters:
“At the unveiling of new film trailers to journalists, Fincher said he was also fascinated by the unusual pairing of the two main characters.

“The thing that interested me was a middle-aged man and a girl who has been emotionally stunted since 13 — I felt they were such an unusual pair.”"
I agree with his mind or ideas or views. I really hope Fincher is directly probing their mind.

True, but then if you look at some of the Oscar winning films…

“I was fascinated that something that was so pervy had found its way into mass consciousness.”

LOL! Yes, true, I was surprised how many people I know read the book who weren’t the type to read this kind of book – then again, the story has a way of drawing you in so that you just want to know more, and more, and can’t stop until you finished the book.

““The thing that interested me was a middle-aged man and a girl who has been emotionally stunted since 13 — I felt they were such an unusual pair.”

Elliott touches hearts of a nation on Children In Need
And his story, which was introduced by Wirral-educated James Bond star Daniel Craig, has created a “phenomenal response” to the Clatterbridge-based centre over the weekend.

I quote from the article his ****ing joke. I’m sure Daniel and Fincher have a strange affinity for each other. lol
Read more. There are various other episodes, as well. Fincher will look different if you look at it from another angle.

Director David Fincher Takes on The Girl With Dragon Tattoo
In person, Fincher is casually friendly. He says “dude” and “peace” more than you’d expect, and says “f**k” about as often as you’d expect, considering he’s trying to get a massively expensive tent-pole movie into theaters by Christmas. And, like his films, Fincher is unexpectedly, almost disruptively funny; at one point, while scouting a new location in LA, he dryly jokes that private trailers will be needed for the actors, because of Craig’s chronic masturbation habit. (Craig, for his part, calls the director “very witty. It’s a valve that needs letting off, especially when you’re doing scenes about an*l rape.”)

    Hi, Mendel
“Blomkvist sort of runs along, really – unless he’s played by Dan, then he becomes REALLY fascinating, lol.”
Anyway, one thing’s for sure. I will throw a tear-gas bomb at a screen if an editor cut his scenes a lot. lol
And thanks for the article. Yeah, we know what she enjoyed well… Damn!
So have you already seen this video clip? I missed seeing it. Simply incredible shots!! I love the pic whose Daniel and Harrison are at the bar!

that’s excellent that Dan was able to raise so much money for the Clatterbridge-based centre!!!

Dan has also helped to raise money to enable West Kirby performing arts students to put on a play at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival:

“he dryly jokes that private trailers will be needed for the actors, because of Craig’s chronic m*** habit”

    OMG! LOL!

“So have you already seen this video clip?”

No, I haven’t. The photographs are amazing!!! Wow!

The man being dragged is Blomkvist? Maybe, by Martin? Descriptions in “the scenes” are found nowhere in the original book, tho…
And Daniel is handcuffed his hands behind his back at the last scene. Agh…
I wonder why they exchanged lines. Blomkvist turned up a key to the solution of the mystery. It’s Mikhail to have noticed “the biblical names”. Lisbeth didn’t like Blombkist had been quicker than she was. I was so interested how Rooney was acting childish behavior. Bummer!! I really hope so that Fincher didn’t describe Blomvkist as a dull man.

IT could be a licence to thrill for Queen and Lady GaGa if James Bond head honchos have their way.
Composer David Arnold, who has penned the past five 007 film soundtracks, would love Queen to have a go at writing a theme tune for next year’s Skyfall starring Daniel Craig.
David, 49, told me: “I’m a massive Queen fan and I would love them to do a theme tune.
“Imagine how ridiculously bombastic a Queen anthem could be. It’s a shame because they would have been perfect for Roger Moore’s Bond during the 80s when he was punching clowns.”
Any possibility of a Queen song today could rest with Lady GaGa, 25, who guitarist Brian May, 64, would love to see fill in for much-missed Freddie Mercury.
The cloud-haired axeman, 64, told me recently: “We still hope to do something with GaGa in the future.
“We’ve been close to doing something for TV before – she is an inspiration.”
Bookmakers Paddy Power have Rihanna, 23, as favourite to record the song at 6-1.
But they are already offering odds of 25-1 for a Queen/Lady GaGa collaboration for Skyfall, which hits cinemas in October 2012.
One thing’s for sure, rumoured theme tune singers Adele, 23, and Noel Gallagher have not been approached to do the music yet.
Arnold, who also soundtracked 2007’s Quantum Of Solace told me: “I’ve heard the Adele rumours but nobody has been asked yet.
“Traditionally producers wait for the film to be made, or if I’m asked I’ll have somebody in mind.”
Noel, 44, shot down the rumours, saying: “I don’t know where you’ve seen a story about me being offered the job of penning the tune.”
Meanwhile Arnold has been talking to Simon Cowell, 54, about adding a Bond-themed evening to next year’s X Factor.
He revealed: “I’ve spoken to Simon about doing an X Factor Bond special before.
“We would love to try it but it’s difficult finding the right Bond songs for people to sing.”
Bond fans are in for a treat next year.

It’s Pernilla, Blomkvist’s daughter who makes the connection to the Bible.
She tells him at the railway station that this are biblical names.

  62. 62
    Fio Says:

Yeah, Pernilla gave him a broad hint, the verses numbers. Blomkvist learned the meaning of the number, the biblical names. Lisbeth didn’t notice it. She said, “Not true. Where is there a Liv or Lena in the bible?” Lisbeth usually was as sharp as a needle, so she felt bitter. IMO, Steven Zaillian shouldn’t have changed lines.

    Fio Says:

“She tells him at the railway station that this are biblical names.”
Nah… she just told him that the numbers are the verses.

  64. 64
    to Fio Says:

sorry, what I meant is that she told him that this are biblical verses. The names have been written down beneath the numbers, anyway.

  65. 65
    Fio Says:

Well, Blomkvist didn’t understand what his daughter means at first. She just gave him the hint. Then, he understood the meaning of her word. But Blomkvist asked Lisbeth, “Am I missing anything?” in the TV spot. She answered, “Their names, they are all biblical”. Ahh, it’s his lines! And we know they were shooting the scene at the station. So it meant Blomkvist had been quicker than Lisbeth was, as well as the original book. Why they changed the plot? It doesn’t make a lot sense!

  66. 66
    Elle Says:

Maybe Blomkvist suffered from amnesia suddenly, Lol. Or they would make him look dull, to make Lisbeth look smarter.

Director’s thoughts on making ‘The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo’'s+thoughts+on+making+'The+Girl+With+the+Dragon+Tattoo'/G3009
Director David Fincher offers some thoughts on his new motion picture, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, opening Dec. 21.

On the book: “I read it and thought, ‘Holy God, how do you compress this into a movie?’ I thought the original did a great job, given its ($15 million) budget. When you have that much, it’s going to be limited
    in terms of the scope.”
On casting Rooney Mara: “I wasn’t looking for someone who kicks ass. I was looking for someone who could project the kind of mystery of someone who is that damaged.”

On casting Daniel Craig: “He reminds me of Brad (Pitt) or Mark Ruffalo. They’re the kind of actors who will do eight or nine takes until the muscle memory kicks in. They make themselves totally available.”
On Mara and Craig’s chemistry: “You know how you get up in the morning to make your coffee and you’ll see your cats, kind of curled and natural? That was them. They were amazing colleagues.”

On casting Robin Wright as Erika Berger: “Actually, she wasn’t first on our list because we didn’t think we could get her. We wanted someone archetypically like her, but I felt the same way about Morgan Freeman for Seven. I figured he’d never do it, he’d just laugh at me.”

On his reputation for violent movies: “I have a much more colorful and sordid reputation as a purveyor of violence than I deserve. I just use it as a device for storytelling. (Tattoo) is an R-rated movie, but we didn’t get gynecological with the violence. I think we were as tasteful as you can be with a subject matter like that.”

On setting the film in Sweden: “I think the setting was part of the escape (for American readers). They don’t want to see this set in some basement here.”

On what he considers the story: “It’s a thriller. I don’t consider it horror; there’s no supernatural element. But it is about the loss of control, which I guess can be horrifying.”

    “his agent has confirmed.”
The rumor turned out to be true!! The Sun was right… Gee, I can’t believe it. What happened to The Sun? lol

Ben Whishaw cast as Q in new James Bond film Skyfall
British actor Ben Whishaw has been cast as Q in the new Bond film Skyfall, his agent has confirmed.

The role of 007′s gadget designer was played by Desmond Llewelyn in From Russia With Love and most recently by John Cleese, opposite Pierce Brosnan, in 2002′s Die Another Day.

At the age of 31, Whishaw is 12 years younger than Bond actor Daniel Craig, a first for the Q character.

Whishaw recently starred in the BBC’s 1950s news drama The Hour.

He is due to play Richard II opposite Rory Kinnear in a new BBC Shakespeare adaptation which is part of next year’s cultural programming to coincide with the Olympics.

The actor played Ariel in Julie Taymor’s recent film adaptation of The Tempest opposite Dame Helen Mirren.

His other credits include Criminal Justice, Brideshead Revisited and the literary big screen adaptation of Perfume.

Q is the head of Branch Q, the fictional armoury division of the secret service. He appeared briefly in the first Bond film Dr No in 1962 under his real name Major Boothroyd, played by actor Peter Burton.

His next appearance was in 1963 in From Russia With Love, played by Welsh actor Llewelyn, who played the role in every subsequent Bond film, except Live And Let Die, until his death in 1999.

The character returned just once in 2002, played by former Python Cleese.

As well as Craig returning as 007 in his third outing, British actors Naomie Harris and Albert Finney will join him in the 23rd Bond film, due out next year.

Oscar-winning Spanish actor Javier Bardem has been cast as Skyfall’s main villain.
