The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1 brought in $139.5 million at the box office over the weekend!

The film, starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner, brought in a massive $283.5 million worldwide, just behind New Moon‘s first weekend total.

Also newly released was Happy Feet Two, which brought in $22 million, nearly half of what the original film brought in on its first weekend.

George Clooney‘s The Descendants was also released in a limited launch this week and is set to be pushed into more theaters over Thanksgiving weekend.

Haven’t even seen the first one. I will never see that garbage.

Yes! Yes! Yes! OMG, Breaking Dawn – Part 1 is absolutely incredible! I can’t wait for Part 2! MORE MORE MORE!!!! Don’t ever stop making Twilight movies! They’ve never been better…never! Never better! Woooo! :)

  • Charlotte

‘Another Happy Day’ should have gotten a wide release. It has a stellar cast (Ellen Barkin, Kate Bosworth, Ellen Burstyn, Thomas Haden Church, George Kennedy, Demi Moore) and deserves better than to be ignored by the public now.

  • Anna

I find these numbers incredible. Do people watch these movies because they like Taylor, Rob, and Kristen or do they actually like the story and the fact that the entire movie looks like one big spoof?

    Serious question btw.

  • Irena Szohr

Silly boys, you know men when it comes to Twilight, they become such little babies!
I love the Twilight series! Breaking Dawn – Part 1 was amazing!
Oh, God, the only thing that’s going through my head to describe this movie, it’s like sex with an orgasm at the end of it!

  • harley

Wow, thats a huge opening for a movie that is average at best. These are not as bad as people make them out to be, well except New Moon, but still amazing so many people flock to these films.

So tired of this sh*t !!!!!!!!!!!

you may think it’s garbage but millions of people don’t agree. just look at how much money the film has made just this weekend. and the Christmas holidays haven’t even started. the studio involved, the actors, the director, and the author are all busy making a whole lot of money.

  • WTF

Beat HP Deathly Hollows part 1. Sad day.

  • rattlesnake

this goes to show you anything can make money if you market it correctly… even crap !

  • Female driven films

It just shows how women hunger female driven movies. Hollywood can makes male oriented movies all they want like Dark Knight, Transformers, Spiderman, etc but they should really look into making actually GOOD female driven movies. Females are an audience too. Twilight is horribly made but it shows that it can compete with male driven films too. Hollywood, take a look.

  • l0nely-girl

    Disturbing.

  • ^..^

@Charlotte: Who? Sorry I have no idea who any of those people are.

  • mae

I saw the movie yesterday, and it was great! I loved every minute of it.

  • ^..^

@lucy: No wonder the rest of the world thinks we are the dumbest nation. These numbers prove that our average citizen isn’t very intelligent.

  • ^..^

It’s called “the dumbing down of America.” Enjoy the ride folks!

  • mary

    to Charlotte.

yes, Another Happy Day should have been given wider release but the powers that be decided otherwise. it’s simple economics. yes, Another Day is brilliant and should be considered for Oscar nominations. but the sad fact is that this film and others like it will not bring in the money that the studios need and want. people i work with in LA think this film with be on DVD in very short order.

the studios need to bring in the dollars if they are going to pay for the next crop of new films. to that end they put out what they think will make the money in wide release. Breaking Dawn is number 4 in “the Twilight Saga” which has proven to be a very big money maker and is bringing in the audience. the movie theatres showing Breaking Dawn have been completely full and will be for some time. Ron Meyer, Universal Pictures Chief, has said it out loud. he’d rather make money than make critically acclaimed award bait.

    To Anna

in one word, yes! my little sister would stand out in a huge rain storm just to get even the smallest look at Taylor.

  • BEAN

The movie was RUBBISH!!! I do not understand at all.

  • Bella

i totally like this movies specially the story (answ the Q) but the day of the premier (17 at midnight) i didn´t see as many people as i see on HP… but i keep saying i love both soooo much

  • LaCroix

It still hasnt broken the original movie debut. which means the franchise is losing appeal. Harry Potter films kept breaking their record each film. So this is not a big deal also like the other Twilight films after the second- third week the movie fails… Fans go to see these movies but overall the point is for non-fans to see the film.. there is no appeal for that.

  • Ivy

I am really really tired of this movie and it’s bullshit.
    Dumb movie.it’s waste of time+money.

  • pshhh

People the guy is dead therefore is not able to have an Er ection so how the hell is he able to get a women is beyond me it’s is a messed up fantasy movie which pushes the women’s movement 50 years back way to go girls looks up to pathetic characters like belle thinking one day a dark knight will come and save them from this world WAKE UP AND SMELL THE FRESH AIR IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN!

  • bekkah

Breaking Dawn of course!!!!! GREAT movie cant wait for part2!!!

  • theresa

    to pshhh

i’m still trying to figure out how a dead guy can make the girl pregnant.

  • pshhh

@theresa: Oh yeah forgot to add that part but what do you expect from a badly written book

  • aquarius64

BD 1 was projected tto make $148 – $150 milion US so it fell short. It came in under, I believe, because of the negative feedback by moviegoers online (and possibly Facebook and Twitter). I predict the last Harry Potter movie will rule in nominations for critical acclaim (Golden Globes, Screen Actors’ Guilds, Oscars) while it dukes it out with Breaking Dawn for the popularity contests like the MTV Movie Awards.

  • anacacho

Stupid teenage girls are the reason this movie does so well, they love c_rap and wouldn’t recognize talent if it hit them in the face. Same reason lesbian Bieber and the Disney s_lut princesses do so well too.

  • Samantha

Half of you don’t realize that the audience mainly for Twilight, is teenage girl, around my age (18) and younger.

  • Leenah

Really? What world do we live in?Real movies don’t get appreciated and some shit like this breaks records?I bet Mars is better

  • joy

I saw Breaking Dawn yesterday with some friends and we all thought it was great. It had just enough funny, just enough drama, and just enough crazy for me, so win, win, win… And anyone who says its only for the young idiots in American need to look at the worldwide boxoffice cause it is not just huge here! My group was ages 25 to 54, so its not just for teens either. It is just about preference and entertainment.

What makes me mad is that crappy movies like these make money like there’s no tomarrow. This movie has been out for only 3 days and it’s made almost $300 million worldwide. It makes me weep for humanity.

IMdb = 4,5.. worst movie ever..

  • Keba

@aquarius64: Actually, Summit predicated it would make $120 or so. They were modest. A movie that made almost 300 mil in 3 days if far from flop.

PS. To the person who said BD didn’t break its own record. WRONG. It didn’t break New Moon’s record ( I suspect part 2 will break NM’s record), but it broke Twilight’s and Eclipse’s records.

It’s fun entertainment based on all the Twi books. But I go see it because of Rob, he is so much more charismatic when he’s interviewed on talk shows or at events as himself (plus he looks a lot better as himself too) than he does when he is stuck with the lines he has to read for the movies, but we follow him in this anyway. Plus he was in Harry Potter too, so two big franchises he was part of, so cool on that. Love Emma Watson too!

I miss the days when hollywood was not about topping the box office when it was about quality not quantity… I wish they would do movies which had great storylines like the godfather or The lord of the rings something that would always be remembered as amazing and well written well directed but these days all it’s about is money, money, money…No quality i seriously have not seen a decent movie worth remembering for a long time

  • robntaylorhumpin

  • [~Fug Face Man!ston~]

…Those movies are so bad. LOL

  • twilighter

Its a teen flick that caters too adolescents as well so why would it change to cater to those outside of its base. It’s a good series that doesn’t ask you if you love them but if you already a fan, they gave them what they wanted and all others can love or leave them baby….=0

  • emmaa

@Anna: I was peer pressured into reading the first book around the time when Twilight was released and thought it was mediocre, poorly written garbage and since then I haven’t read another book of this series. However I will admit to watching the movies though – for the sole reason of seeing Taylor Lautner because he is hot eye candy. And I only rent them when they’re released on DVD.

  • Hubemx

This just confirms that the girls of this generation are the most idiot ever by far!
