'Breaking Dawn': $62.3 Million Over Thanksgiving Weekend

Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson‘s The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part I topped the Thanksgiving box office with an impressive $62.3 million in ticket sales!

Jason Segel‘s The Muppets took second place with $42 million, while Happy Feet Two finished in third with $18.4 million, Variety reports.

Newcomers Arthur Christmas and Martin Scorsese‘s Hugo brought in $17 million and $15.4 million, respectively.

Variety notes that while Breaking Dawn and The Muppets had strong showings, neither matched last year’s box office totals by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part I and Tangled.

‘My Week With Marilyn’, ‘Rampart’, ‘A Dangerous Method’ and ‘The Artist’ should have all gotten a wide release.

It is incredible what an enormous positive impact Twilight has had on women around the world! It is such a life changer and it brings so many people together. It’s a beautiful beautiful story that’s teaching the dynamics of life and love and how being yourself and following your heart is the best thing to do.

Oh please. It is teaching girls that they can’t possibly exist without a man. I love KS and RP, but puh-leez, Bella is one of the most whiny, immature, babyish females out there in the movies.

Summit is making a killing off this lastest installment of the franchise. The studio is already to roll out the DVD with the Bella/Edward personal “wedding memories”. (The info comes from Hollywood Life, complete with art cover.) Unfortunately, the three people on the DVD cover are not seeing a dime of this. The Twilight 3 only got a deal for 25 million dollars flat salary and a percentage of the BOX OFFICE receipts. No deal was made for them to get a cut of the profits from DVD sales and rentals for BD 1 & 2; if there were it would have been announced along with the salaries. Summitt probably put a clause in their contracts where they can’t go back and try to get it. I’m surprised these three weren’t smart enough to make that part of the negoitiations; or their agents should have looked out for them.

Failed week for Twilight? Delusional much? Your precious Potter is over since November. Take a deep breath and stop worrying about the box office of another completely different film series to Potter. Will you keep comparing every franchise to Potter from now until you die? Sad, sad life you lead.

Twilight actually did very well and stayed at the number one spot both in NA and internationally.

Who knows what the Twilight trio negotiated in their contract. But they were very smart to ask for a share of the box office gross. It must help to smile more in the promotion when they know it affects their paycheck. I don’t think DVD is the same in terms of promotion. They may get a flat fee for doing commentaries, who knows.
