Neil Patrick Harris: 'Truly Sorry' for Saying 'Tranny'

The 38-year-old How I Met Your Mother star, in town to guest co-host Live! With Kelly, hailed a cab with partner David Burtka, who held onto Gideon‘s twin sis, Harper.

“Truly sorry for saying the word ‘tranny’ on Live this week. Twice! Should have been more thoughtful. Didn’t at all mean to offend,” NPH tweeted the day before.

The remark came on Thursday’s show when Neil inhaled sulfur hexafluoride (“helium’s evil twin”) during a science segment that lowered his voice.

“Put the lotion in the basket,” NPH said after realizing he sounded like Silence of the Lambs‘ Buffalo Bill.

“I’ve never sounded more like a tranny in my life,” he later said after his voice returned to normal.
