Shailene Woodley: Filming in Hawaii 'Grounded Me'

Shailene Woodley poses for a photo shoot for Paper Mag‘s Winter issue.

Here’s what 20-year-old actress, who’s getting rave reviews for her role in The Descendants, had to share with the mag:

On appreciating, but feeling limited, in Secret Life of the American Teenager: “Time and money are of the essence and there’s very little creativity that’s involved.”

On working with director Alexander Payne on The Descendants: “You can try the slide for a few minutes, then you play on the swings. He gives you the chance to explore yourself and to be yourself. He told us, ‘I hired you to be you.’”

On plans to raise a family in Kauai, Hawaii, where much of The Descendants was filmed: “I came into my own there. It was the one experience in my young adult life that grounded and centered me. I can’t see myself raising little naked babies anywhere else – picking avocados from trees.”

I can’t believe she said that about the show that put her on the map and that probably helped her be on casting directors’ list for “girls to audition for the descendants” which is probably gonna earn her an Oscar nod. SMH.

LOL…uhhh what’s with that pose in the first pic??

She’s gettin shine, deservedly so, but all these youngster actors have major entitlement issues. Where’s some gratitude??

Secret Life is the BIZ. I’d be pretty psyched and grateful to be on it.
Esp if I were still shooting the show.

I don’t think shes being ungrateful. I’ve seen interviews with other actors that have been TV stars before going into film that when creating a show everything is so fast paced there not much room personal creativity. I’m assuming with films there’s probably a little more freedom for actors to embrace their character and creative.

She’s not being ungrateful. It’s probably true that there isn’t much creative input there. Maybe she might end up having a career like Michelle Williams.

Everyone has to start somewhere, guys. I first thought she was a future award-winner when I saw her in the Felicity movie! She kicks colonial butt! I’m convinced she’ll move away from the SLOTAT sooner than later, and floor us all with more worthy, juicier roles like Alexandra in ‘The D’s’. Hell, I’d love to see her do serious Sci-fi!
