Christian Bale: 'Flowers of War' Trailer!

Check out the trailer for Christian Bale‘s new film, The Flowers of te War!

The drama, set during the Japanese invasion of China, “is told from a young girl’s point of view, not as a history lesson, but as an intimate, elemental and paradoxically universal celebration of the human spirit. Christian stars as a dissolute Westerner who seeks refuge in a Catholic Church. There he meets a beautiful Chinese courtesan who helps him rescue a group of schoolgirls from a terrible fate at the hands of the Japanese.”

The Flowers of War, directed by Zhang Yimou (House of the Flying Daggers), opens in NYC December 21, two days before its release in Los Angeles and San Francisco.

The flick will then have a national wide release in late winter 2012.

I was lucky enough to see a screening of this film earlier this week. It is easily Zhang Yimou’s best work, a masterpiece. Christian Bale gave a truly emotionally moving and heartfelt performance, and the young Chinese actors did a wonderful, believable job, especially the boy. As soon as the credits started rolling, I wanted to immediately watch it again; it was that good.

This looks so good! And now we know why he was sporting that Amish look at the Oscars. Glad he shaves off the beard later in the film. His face is too handsome to hide.
