'New Year's Eve': $13.7 Million at Box Office

New Year’s Eve topped this weekend’s box office, bringing in $13.7 million in ticket sales.

The star studded ensemble comedy, featuring Zac Efron, Michelle Pfeiffer, Halle Berry, Katherine Heigl, Sarah Jessica Parker, and more, was projected to make about $20 million over the weekend but fell short, Variety reports.

Second place went to Jonah Hill‘s new comedy The Sitter, which earned $10 million.

Variety notes that Charlize Theron‘s new movie Young Adult fared well in limited release, bringing in $320,000 in ticket sales.

WHAT DID YOU SEE at the movies this weekend?

James Belushi, Halle Berry, Jessica Biel, Jon Bon Jovi, Abigail Breslin, Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges, Common, Robert De Niro, Josh Duhamel, Zac Efron, Hector Elizondo, Cary Elwes, Carla Gugino, Katherine Heigl, Ashton Kutcher, John Lithgow, Seth Meyers, Lea Michele, Alyssa Milano, Larry Miller, Sarah Paulson, Sarah Jessica Parker, Michelle Pfeiffer, Til Schweiger, Yeardley Smith, Hilary Swank, Sofía Vergara.
From the cast alone, ‘New Year’s Eve’ looked like it would make a billion dollars. Now it will probably end up like ‘The Big Year’.

What new years eve tanked? How can that be it had zac efron in it doing the promotion for it? He’s supossed to be some kind of god or something. The greatest actor that ever lived and oscars are supossed to be thrown at his feet. 6% on rotten tomatoes and the worst movie weekend in 3 years, what happend?

Not planning to see NYE, but I did go see Shame this weekend with Michael Fassbender and Carey Mulligan. Superb performances from Michael and Carey.

It may have been number 1 at the box office but the studio that released “New Years Eve” have nothing to cheer about. Considering that “Valentines Day” brought in $56.2 million opening weekend, “New Years Eve” is a dismal failure.

I bet the actor’s paychecks were more than that!

Movies like this making so much money shows how stupid we human’s are! Again and again and again we watch the same bullshit…something that has nothing to do with reality and just misleads the younger generations.

The epic fail was not only the over abundance of celebrities in one movie but to release a movie titled “New Years Eve” 3 weeks before the actual New Years Eve.

nye isn’t supposed to be an earth-shaking, world-changing movie. it’s a mindless, fun-filled movie, and it’s good exposure for ppl who are new in the industry like zac. it exposes him to an audience that might not have seen any of his previous movies. and i hear he did a good job as paul.

I am tired of seeing the same people in the same kind of movies. SJP playing the type of role and the same for the other ones. I am ready for new actors too come on the scene.Go away Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, oh yeah take George Clooney with you. I knew that NYE was gonna bomb all of those actors are over.Sorry but Hollywood seems to be a 5 year fame game. We’ve had Kristen Stewart, Jennifer Lawrence, Olivia Wilde, Emma Stone, and now Jessica Chastain being crowned the new it girl all in one year. You can tell from the box office people aren’t coming out unless its really good or has some kind of gimmick.

if this one failed, they won’t make these type of movie anymore, so it’s kind good

Thumb up Thumb down +21

More people were in the movie than saw it.

Oh come on, which star power are you talking about? The only actors whom I recognize as the good ones are Pheiffer, de Niro, Swank and Berry (for their Oscar) and the star power of these actors faded away long before. They don’t do good movies anymore. SJP’s recent movie was a flop. The rest of the actors were just B and D listers. So the result is expectable. Today the kings of the box office are other actors.

I think that Zac does have a big fan base but he needs to try to pull in that male demographic. Seems like women are swooning but what about the guys? Hopefully after the Lucky One, his other movies will draw in the male demographic and he’ll be able to gain new fans. This is where I think his problem is. He needs to stop making these sappy movies for awhile and so some type of thriller, action, suspense movies. Personally, I’m getting tired of seeing him in the same kind of movies over, over, over, over, and over again. You can play off your looks only for so lone.
