Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt: PGA Honor & SAG Nominee!

Angelina Jolie‘s new film In the Land of Blood and Honey will be honored by the Producers Guild of America!

The film will be honored with the Stanley Kramer Award at a ceremony on January 21. The award recognizes a motion picture, producer or other individual whose “achievement or contribution illuminates provocative social issues in an accessible and elevating fashion,” THR reports.

Angie isn’t the only one with a reason to celebrate, though – earlier today, it was announced that Brad Pitt has been nominated for a Screen Actors Guild award!

Brad, who was recognized for his work on Moneyball, will go up against George Clooney, Leonardo DiCaprio, Demian Bichir of A Better Life, and Jean Dujardin from The Artist for the award.

Congrats to Brad and Angie!!

I am so happy that Horrible Bosses was not nominated for any SAG award. That means the Ho will not be at the award. I do hope they are not going to invite her as the presenter.

Also, speaking of the Hottist list. I do hope Ricky G. will make fun of MANiston and Men’s Health magazine for naming her the Hottest.

    Stanley Kramer -from Wikipedia

    Legacy

Throughout his later years, it was widely believed that Kramer co-directed many of the films that he only produced, a misconception that was reflected in many of his obituaries.[16] In her book, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, published in the 1960s, critic Pauline Kael observed that “Kramer’s reputation as a great director [was] based on a series of errors”, and went on to list the films that many people mistakenly thought Kramer had directed.

So she is in GOOD company

Early Wednesday, PSIFF announced that Pitt would be the recipient of the festival’s Desert Palm Achievement Award for Acting. The award is designed to honor his performances in both “Moneyball” and “The Tree of Life,” and will be presented to Pitt at the fest’s Awards Gala on Saturday, January 7.

“Brad Pitt consistently mesmerizes audiences with the depth and versatility of his performances. He has the rare ability to interpret and capture the most complicated facets of human nature, infusing his roles with strength and emotion,” said festival chairman Harold Matzner in a statement.

Pitt recently won acting awards from the New York Film Critics Circle and the Boston Society of Film Critics. On Tuesday, he was nominated for Best Actor in the Critics Choice Movie Awards.

Past winners of the award include last year’s recipient, Colin Firth, as well as Jeff Bridges, Daniel Day-Lewis and Sean Penn.

Angelina Jolie’s Bosnia movie gets Hollywood award

    LOS ANGELES | Wed Dec 14, 2011 6:57am IST

(Reuters) – Hollywood movie producers are honoring Angelina Jolie’s Bosnia war film “In the Land of Blood and Honey” with a special award for its portrayal of social issues.

The Producers Guild of America said on Tuesday that the movie, Jolie’s directing debut which she also wrote and co-produced, would be given the 2102 Stanley Kramer Award.

Established in 2002 in memory of the Hollywood director, the award is given annually to a movie producer whose work “illuminates provocative social issues in an accessible and elevating fashion.”

“‘In the Land of Blood and Honey’ is an extraordinary film that portrays a complex love story set against the terrors of the Bosnian War, especially towards women,” Producers Guild presidents Hawk Koch and Mark Gordon said in a statement.

The movie tells a tale of love between a Serb man and a Muslim woman before the 1992-1995 Bosnian war who later meet in different circumstances when he is an army officer and she is his detainee.

Objections from female victims of the Bosnian war last year forced Jolie to shoot much of the film in Hungary, rather than Bosnia, as the actress had first planned. But a private screening in Bosnia last week was greeted with enthusiasm from some of the movie’s previous toughest critics.

Jolie and her co-producers said in a statement they were honored by the PGA award, whose past recipients include “Hotel Rwanda”, and Al Gore’s global warming documentary “An Inconvenient Truth”.

Kramer, who died in 2001, was the director of classic movies such as “The Caine Mutiny” and “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner.”

“In the Land of Blood and Honey” opens in limited release in the United States on December 23, making it eligible for possible Oscar nominations.

    @Kriss:

Kris you need to fill everyone in on all the facts if you are going to slam someone. But then you aren’t interested in being fair are you?
First off, typically baseball films do poorly no matter who is in them. Secondly Moneball is in line to be the #2 all time baseball hit. Thirdly most baseball films don’t make money, but Moneyball did. Fourth, Brad fell in love with this story and worked for years with various producers/directors etc. to get it produced.

    So Moneyball has made money.
Moneyball is the third best baseball film of all time (League of Our Own and the Rookie are ahead of it, but probably it will overtake the Rookie).
It is the 13th ranked sports drama movie
And it is still in theaters 12 weeks later. Theaters like long running, money producing films because they get most of the revenue after the third to sixth week depending on what the negotiations were.
PLUS Brad is getting nominated for many of the top awards for dramatic actor.

    This is a fail? Ha!

  • Nina

Congrats to Brad and Angie. I hope Brad ditches the glasses for the awards show, he looks hotter without the glasses.

    i have to say that:
you, american people, are complete of control with the crazy obsession about AWARDS THINGS.

really, it´s scary. let them do their jobs, acting or directing, with mixed results, but doing their best they can do.

I’m wating for see Angelina’s movie. i haven´t big expectations. only hope a very decent first movie debut. even, if it does not a masterpiece, for me like a loyal fan, will be a masterpiece but i’ll understand if the rest of the world doesn’t think it.

peace, guys. good luck to angelina with her debut us director!

Ha ha, that Kriss hag is desperate…. nothing better to do with her life so she’s scouring the internet trying to find something negative about S. Kramer or Moneyball. These hags are always good for a laugh…..and pitiful too. They don’t have two brain cells to rub together.

Brad and Angie are definitely ending the year with a bang. Congrats to them, they deserve it!

CONGRATULATIONS TO ANGIE AND BRAD! So happy for them – well deserving.

To this Kriss person and other JP haters why so petty. I don’t believe Jen A. movies does well at all. Both Angie and Brad ate excellent actors and have been niminated for various prestigious awards like the Oscars – with Angie winning it a few years back. In the end that’s what matters, to be recognized for the excellent work you have done.
