Reese Witherspoon Signs on for 'Devil's Knot'

Reese Witherspoon is attached to star in Devil’s Knot, a movie about the case of the West Memphis Three.

The drama centers around the brutal 1993 Arkansas murder of three 8-year-old boys who were found in a wooded area known as Robin Hood Hills.

Jessie Misskelley Jr., Jason Baldwin, and Damien Baldwin were convicted of the crimes and served 18 years in prison before they were released in August.

Reese “will play Pam Hobbs, the mother of one of the victims [who] originally believed that Echols, Baldwin and Misskelley murdered her son, but as the case dragged on and more details became available, she came to believe that the trio did not commit the heinous crime,” Variety reports.

Atom Egoyan is set to direct the flick, which is based on investigative reporter Mara Leveritt‘s 2003 book “Devil’s Knot: The True Story of the West Memphis Three.”

This sounds like a really good movie for her; if it gets made, I’ll definitely want to see it. The director is great too.

@ellie’: She IS well liked, by people who have never met her and only know her through her PR. The budget on this film is about what her salary used to be. Someone is fishing for another Oscar. I don’t think she can perform at that level, look at her performances next to what’s being nominated nowadays. Can’t hold a candle.

Pretty damn sad when the budget of a film USED to be your salary! She can’t open, they need to add some other BIG names to this project.

This is going to be a very very touchy project because of the storyline.

She DID NOT deserve that Oscar. Sorry WitherFake!

Out of genuine curiosity, did you meet her or something? I just wanted to know why so many people dislike her and think she is fake because you are right, I thought she seemed pretty normal just from pictures and stuff.

I have no desire to watch a movie about the tragic murder of little 8 year-olds and the botched investigations that followed. So sad and depressing.

This story is fascinating – never did find the killers of these boys. If done right it could be a great movie – I don’t think the casting that has recently been announced it good though. Witherspoon again???? She is as gastly actress and is way to old to play this part. I think Rachel McAdams would be great or even Amy Adams. The more studios try to make Reese a viable actress, the more people resent her. She is well past her prime – which when Election was made. Hopefully when her next big movie opens in Feb. to a crashing thud they will have a reason to yank her out and replace with someone with some talent.

They should pitch this to the Lifetime or LMN channels. This is a “made for TV” idea not a big screen production!
