Gerard Butler: Glasgow for the Holidays

Gerard Butler arrives at the airport on Saturday (December 24) in Glasgow, Scotland.

The 42-year-old Scottish stud took a break from filming his latest movie, Of Men and Mavericks, to spend time with friends and family over the holidays.

Gerry is on the mend after a scary surfing accident earlier in the month – when a large outside set of waves came through, he was held down under water and hit on the head before finally being plucked out after the waves subsided.

    So he did get to the game then, I did wonder as all the other sightings did seem to be pub related.

    @Twitter & FB: I really have stayed on top of things with the FB and Twitter thing and just in general when they started using a computer. Even if they wanted to enter some sort of online contest, they wouldn’t give their name and address until I checked it out. They knew better and they still do–and I’ve always warned them about the bullying thing because to me, THAT is huge. Be careful what you say to people and how you say it because things like that can literally come back and ruin your life.
    I didn’t mean to get defensive, but I have to take credit for the good place they are both in now. Sure they make mistakes, we all did when we were in our teens and early 20′s. Trust me, I watch them like a hawk and they know it. I’m glad my daughter made the decision to clean up her FB and be mature about it. I’ve asked her plenty of times if there are any photos out there that could be damaging and other then the ‘college drinking’, there are none–and we’re going to keep it that way.
    I have to agree that there are a lot of stupid kids out there that post stuff on FB, even VIDEOS of them committing crimes, or beating other people up. Like they are proud of it. That is just so stupid and they deserve whatever they have coming to them when they get caught.

    LOL… while I’m at it…
    A suburban family is torn apart when fourteen-year-old Annie (Liana Liberato) meets her first boyfriend online. After months of communicating via online chat and phone, Annie discovers her friend is not who he originally claimed to be. Shocked into disbelief, her parents (Clive Owen and Catherine Keener) are shattered by their daughter’s actions and struggle to support her as she comes to terms with what has happened to her once innocent life.

    @GerrysVeryFascinatingWoman: I was thinking the same thing. Feeling rather claustrophobic looking at the picture, and his profile? Beautiful!

    It’s not too bad when you’re there, it would have been even more crowded in the cheap seats and judging by the suits around him he isn’t in those and in hindsight looking at some of those fan photos, they look like they may have been taken in an executive suite before or after the game.
    -
    On a practical sense it being that crowded does keep you warm and it makes for a brilliant atmosphere. You can’t beat jumping up and down, hugging and in some cases kissing complete strangers in celebration when your team scores. Best feeling in the world.

  • Joie de Vivre

    That is too funny. I met a movie actor that I have adored since I was a teen. It’s so exciting, but we all know how I feel about FB and all that, so only sent the pic to my closest friends and family. My best friends however did post the pic of us on their FB pages. lol

  • Can’tGetEnough

    @Joie de Vivre: You are such a sweetheart Joie, thank you for the nice compliment! I appreciate that very much! =)

    @Summer: Summer, I must admit that I love FB but I do keep it private including my photos. Last year, I had the honor and privilege of spending an entire week with a major Grammy award winning music star traveling with them from the east coast to the west coast and I documented almost every single moment on FB including hundreds of photos. My family and friends loved it, traveling with me every day through FB on my journey. It was fabulous and one of the most exciting and best weeks of my life. I wonder if any of my friends passed around the photos, LOL I don’t know if they did, but it’s one of the reasons I love FB so much. It gave me a great way to share a fantastic time in my life with everyone I know and they were genuinely happy and excited for me. Wish I could share it with some people here. Maybe someday. =)

  • niknoks

    @Can’tGetEnough:

    I keep my FB account set to the highest privacy settings and only family and close friends have access to it. Whereas my Twitter account is wide open but I’m very selective about what I post on it, nothing too personal.

  • Summer

    @Can’tGetEnough:

    I totally understand. It’s simply not my cup of tea. I have had friends that have had terrible things happen (like hacking and so forth) on there. The over sharing that takes place is just too much for me too. It’s just not for me. I’m sure most on here don’t want us to get back on that topic. lol I’m also hoping that the insults to others will die down a little now too. I might not have gone about it the best way, but that was my goal, to get that to stop. Your week with a Grammy winner sounds like it was amazing! How fun!

  • Joie de Vivre

    @niknoks: I have chills! One of those moments of pure awe! Thanks for sharing that!

    @GerrysVeryFascinatingWoman: Thank you, GFW. Now I am getting excited. Do you agree with what my friend said about the end?

    Good night all, heading into our lovely Nation’s Capital. I do love that city! XXO

  • GerrysVeryFascinatingWoman

    @niknoks:
    Hope they did then. Don’t think Gerry’s walkin’ alone now anymore. He’s a guardian angel walkin’ with him if he got plucked from the ocean and saved. Thanks for sharing. Oh Holy Night (the Christmas song can do the same for me–and bring a welling of tears.)
    ~K

  • Cnoc Mhor

    @niknoks: Do you worry about it though?…It seems like facebook has issues with their privacy settings every other month or so…just wondering if you are concerned if during their lapses on settings etc. that someone could gain access to your account/photos etc.? also if you have the highest settings on etc., can someone with that access still copy, paste and post your stuff on their pages or elsewhere unbeknownst to you?? I think facebbook can be a great thing for keeping in touch with people, sharing things etc. but …facebook has always freaked me out a bit with their privacy issues…

  • GerrysVeryFascinatingWoman

    @Joie de Vivre:
    “Do you agree with what my friend said about the end?”
    Totally. Gerry’s movie with a message. It’s darling. Same like him. He’s so cute. And sings. He’s such a lug too.

    Ladies, good afternoon! Beautiful pics of Mr. B. I love his curly hair. Have really enjoyed reading everyone’s posts today – CGE, GVFW, NIK, JDV, Angel, Summer, DMP, SHE – thanks for the great pics, TwitFeeds. He looks less stressed and happy. Hope he stays in Scotland through Hogmanay (New Year’s). I would have loved being there to watch that match in person.

    Gym was great this morning – sparred with Tommy, my 28 boxing trainer, so much stress I knocked him down – twice!

    Thanks for all your wells wishes on travel – I leave Monday night.

    I have to say I have so enjoyed everyone’s comments about GB today – GVFW you have made me laugh today and nod in agreement with your statements – you make some excellent, valid points especially about social media. I don’t want to know when my pals get up, get coffee, hiccup, or have a brain freeze. Due to my job, I can’t be on FB, Twitter or LinkedIn – I don’t think I’m missing much! I also loved your 7 words – I usually just use 2 :).

    Summer, bless your heart – why is it the “SEASONS” get hammered yet we hammer back. JDV and Angel – can we schedule Coriolanus in WDC when it rolls out? CGE you rock with the posts!

    ALL – have a great night and I may revisit later! Damn that is a gorgeous man! Just walking around Glasgow and Edinburgh this past May, Scottish men, I must say, can be darn gorgeous! It’s also that brogue – yummy!

    @GerrysVeryFascinatingWoman:

    I only watched that movie once, but I could barely breathe from crying so much that I don’t think I can ever watch it again. I felt like I had a weight on my chest. But I agree, I kept thinking, especially in the beginning, “Is her character super whiny and difficult or is just me?”.

  • niknoks

    @Cnoc Mhor:

    I’ve never had any issues with FB and the only people I know that have, either didn’t have their privacy settings set up correctly or they left their account logged on, on a public computer. I’m not saying there isn’t any issues with FB but I haven’t had any yet. Plus, I don’t have anything too incriminating on there. ;-)

  • Cnoc Mhor

    @niknoks: Thanks for responding:) I hope your good experience with FB continues!

  • Summer

    @Autumn:

    Thanks Autumn, I can take it. ;-) Nothing that was written by that person is true, so it only makes he/she look badly. I do have a temper though and not afraid to show it when the need arises. There are some really nice people on here and they do not deserve that type of treatment. Especially you. Have a wonderful New Years. Stay warm!

  • Can’tGetEnough

    @Joie de Vivre: You will LOVE PSILY. I cried through the entire movie. There is Gerry, then there is Gerry with that ‘Irish’ accent and then he dances around in his suspenders and underwear and then he sings and then then then…..OMG I need tissues……LOL
    Enjoy it!!!

  • Can’tGetEnough

    @Cnoc Mhor:

    @niknoks:

    I’ve never had any privacy issues with FB, but I do check them every so often especially when they make changes. There is another change coming up when they will initiate the “time line” and take away your “wall” as it looks now. Some people have it already and I heard that you may have to ‘redo’ your privacy settings when that change occurs.

  • GerrysVeryFascinatingWoman

    @Summer:
    Also like the sofa scene! Loved that. Him, ***spoiler*** as a ghost telling her to quit (yet another job) while strumming the guitar and singing. (fainted, well nearly!) So him. Men want us happy, and they what to be what makes us happy… so let them.
    -
    But you’re right, she’s not a flattering female in this role. I couldn’t identify with her (at all) but for her not wanting to get on with her life and watching Bette Davis… which is where she get IT.
    -
    Yet to plan like that. Know what I mean? To write the letters, book the trip, all for to be there after… still for her. Oh, dear Lord. Great story.

    @niknoks:

    Thanks for the link, Nik. That was very beautiful. We should sing together more often.

  • God Bless yoou all!

    No matter what your struggle has been, victory is possible today. Sadly, most of us don’t think that’s true. The problem is we tend to measure long term success while downplaying the absolute victory found in small successes.

    @niknoks: omg I love that song! I’ve been listening to it all my life. The elvis version. I had no idea it was used as an anthem. The video you posted literally made me tear up. I think its a beautiful thing when strangers come together like that. They don’t know each other but while they are there in that stadium they are family. Singing, cheering, celebrating together. I think its a beautiful thing.

    @niknoks: I love the atmosphere before football games. I know that celtic has one of the strongest sport’s clubs in the world. Sometimes I watch celtic’s games because Biram Kayal plays there and some years ago Eyal Berkovich played there. The Celtic fans are totaly nuts about their team.
