Gerard Butler: Glasgow for the Holidays

Gerard Butler: Glasgow for the Holidays

Gerard Butler arrives at the airport on Saturday (December 24) in Glasgow, Scotland.

The 42-year-old Scottish stud took a break from filming his latest movie, Of Men and Mavericks, to spend time with friends and family over the holidays.

Gerry is on the mend after a scary surfing accident earlier in the month – when a large outside set of waves came through, he was held down under water and hit on the head before finally being plucked out after the waves subsided.

    Gerrard butler is coming to my house for new year because of my dads business
    1 hour ago

  • Joie de Vivre

    @Can’tGetEnough: Hope Caleb’s dad is someone involved in the Robert Burns project. That would be such a splendid way to start off the new year. A year with, I think, 4 Butler film openings scheduled, so far. Like I said, 2012, BEST year yet! Thanks, CGE. XXO

  • Maggie P.U.

    @301 CGE….. well, I have business here in the gutter so Gerry can come here…..:) Just deflate “Bob”, hide the PG mags and provide some towels…… I think yellow is the right color for guest…..yeah yellow…. **runs to get the candles and bubble bath****

    Peace.

    @summer:
    “Damn that was fast. No one here personally knows Gerard Butler, so please…..spare us.”
    .
    Well, you definitely don’t know him. He wouldn’t hang out with an ugly psycho like you, that’s for sure.

  • LOL

    @Can’tGetEnough:
    “Of course, there were a few episodes of GFW anger, maybe about 2 weeks ago, with stuff and name calling that, to me, seemed out of sorts for her. I chalked it up to either a bad week or too many trolls pushing her in the wrong direction.”
    .
    No, that wasn’t the trolls pushing her in the wrong direction, it was all of you guys taunting her and preventing her from voicing her opinions because what she said didn’t match yours. Please, lets keep things accurate around here, shall we?

  • LOL

    @Autumn:
    “when I was there in May (we rented a house on the River Earn) and played golf at the club – folks spoke of them fondly and respectfully.”
    .
    I should have known you would be the type to stalk his mum. Many old-hag fans of his,. known as phannies, make the “pilgrimage” to his hometown. They don’t feel like good fans, or they have done him justice, without going to Scotland at least once, especially to Comrie. You’re probably one of those ladies that tells her hubby you like Scotland for it’s beauty and history, but wouldn’t tell him the truth of how you LUST after Butler and want to know and feel everything about him. You want to walk in the streets he walks in, you want to frequent the eateries he goes to, and you want to see and hear the sights and sounds of what he sees and hears when he comes for a visit. You sneaky you…….

    It has been so peaceful around here lately. I am actually enjoying all of the post and hope that things can get back on track and remain that way through the New Year. With that said happy New Year ladies hope you all have a safe and blessed journey into 2012.

    @summer:
    Haha……GB would be interested, yeah right. BTW, I thought you were going out tonight? Back so soon? What happened? A crazy psycho like you just got dumped???

  • summer

    You’re so angry. Why? The fights are over. Never dumped, again, sorry. Early flight to L.A. tomorrow. I hope you can be happy one day, I really do. Bye now. :)

  • http://justjared.com Aqua

    I just want to wish him nothing but the best for the up coming new year especially in terms of his career.He certainly didn’t get the credit he deserved last year.

  • Autumn

    @LOL: Sorry to disappoint you – but i have family at the Mill of Ross outside of Comrie and they rented the house for us – I’m Scottish. Had no idea his family lived there until our friends from CA mentioned Ewan McGregor in the local pub (he’s from Crieff – next town over) – the bartender told us about GB’s family living in town. Pop that balloon!

    I went to Scotland this time to hike Glencoe and play golf with my husband at St. Andrew’s while visiting my great- grandfather and grandmother’s graves nearby.

    Why I’m explaining my wonderful life to you – I have no idea. As for a “phannie” had no idea what that was until recently – I’m not a POTO fan. Have a nice New Year and a wonderful life!

    I won’t address you again.

    @anonymous:

    Thanks for clarifying that for me, Anon! I’ve wondered how men maintain scruff. Truly. Not being sarcastic here. I just never remembered to ask anyone with scruff how they do it. :)

  • dargabriel

    Just to clarify exactly what a true NDE (near death experience) is , when a person flat lines, you know actually dies for a brief moment, then comes back, Gerard did not have a NDE. I would know this. Here’s to a very powerful year 2012. To GB, let up on the chakra torture, live and let live. I know you are thirsty for that heavenly water, but let go for a bit, strangle hold is not necessary. Your soul is invincible, let the body follow, be positive, please don’t be angry, she will return in the spirit world, again at home. Ride the roller coaster as does she, hold on tight, don’t fear the tunnel, its dark, but light is at the end, beautiful times ahead for you always,family,friends, and your beloved career, right now the only thing you can see is making your mark, this is your lifetime of harvest. Dargabriel

  • curious cat

    Well, folks, I really couldn’t read all 13 pages of more arguing about Butler’s appearance, quotes from twitter on where he is clubbing, eating and drinking coffee, and posters attacking each other. There are always interesting posts here–Autumn, I was intrigued by your comments on Scotland–Red O, your comments are always interesting…Niknoks too…and others…but so much is wearying and too time consuming so I don’t come to JJ much any more and skip a lot when I do just because it gets repetitive and argumentive.

    So GB looks older than he did when he was younger…so what? That’s true of all of us. Even Botox and plastic surgery can do only so much and for so long. A plastic surgeon I interviewed for a story once said, “If you are 50, don’t think a facelift will make you look 30 again. It will just make you look a better 50!” An attractive person is an attractive person and will remain so if he/she doesn’t let him/herself go as too many of us human beings do. Movie stars are under pressure to look good as long as they can. I think Jane Fonda looks great for 74, better than women 20 and even 30 years younger, but she exercised, and admits help from surgery. So what?

    Justin Bieber doesn’t do a thing for me (it would be obscene on my part if he did) but teen-age girls seem to fall apart over him. To dismiss an actor because he is aging is to me denying life.

    Well, to change the subject, tonight I saw two Scottish movies,
    “Rocket Post” and “One Last Chance,” the first set in the Hebrides, the second in the highlands. I love seeing films that show me life in another place, another country, another culture.

    They played at a funny little theater here called The Movie Museum, owned and run by a man from one of the “old wealth” families here, who had his own video production company for years, loves movies and runs this theater as a hobby. It has 19 seats, all recliners, and it’s quite funny to see people lying down watching a movie. He has widescreen too! It;s so intimate you end up chatting with people about the film. They charge $5 admission and run many foreign films, old classics and some pretty up to date ones. They are running “Moneyball” with Brad Pitt next month, and that is only a few months old. They also have a schedule of British, French, Swiss, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese and American movies next month.
    The owner promised me that he will show “Machine Gun Preacher” if nobody else does here and the two major theater companies haven’t shown it, which annoys me no end. Even if it’s a money loser, it seems like a film that should be seen. Surely they could run it for a week while lapping up the profits from the sh@t that runs and makes millions.

  • LOL

    Hilarious! Autumn tells Summer to email if need bail money. Oh…those wonderful seasons, you got to love them. Dumb and dumber those two.

    Happy New Year JJ’ers. I hope all have safe and happy experiences tonight….that goes for the mean girls as well as the nice posters. I don’t wish bad things for anyone. I’m sure those kinds of thoughts would come back to bite me.
    Wouldn’t it be fun if we find a photo or two of Gerry out with friends, either in Glasgow or Comrie. Nothing intrusive, just sometthing he doesn’t mind posing for with a few respectful fans and friends like Tony. I watched Mists of Avalon on DVD last night and saw that Tony had a small role in it. Mists is one of my all-time favorite films even tho it was a made-for-TV event. I didn’t recognize Tony first time around. The only thing that would have made Mists better is if Gerry had been in it.. Of course, I feel that way about most movies!!
    Looking forward to reading you all next year.

    Now you’re a medical professional. *snort* I guess at Black Arts University you can bestow any degree on yourself huh????? Having your heart stop is not the only sign of “death.” Maybe you shouldn’t post medical DX and terminology and try to disguise your paranormal beliefs as facts. Many are “dead” and their hearts are still beating.
    .
    “The National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws in 1980 formulated the Uniform Determination of Death Act. It states that: “An individual who has sustained either (1) irreversible cessation of circulatory and respiratory functions, or (2) irreversible cessation of all functions of the entire brain, including the brain stem is dead. A determination of death must be made in accordance with accepted medical standards.” This definition was approved by the American Medical Association in 1980 and by the American Bar Association in 1981.”

    Good Afternoon JJer’s! Stopping in to catch up quickly and throw a few updates your way off of the GB news feed:

    Not sure of the timeline on this, but looks like GB could be traveling somewhere today.

    This is from Thursday:

    Thursday
    - gerard butler was in Colette’s work last night and she didn’t think to CALL ME to make me come and ogle him!
    (Colette works at Valerio’s Fish and Chip shop in Lanark, Scotland)

    and then this from about an hour ago:

    Gerard Butler was on my plane, and now I’m off to Singapore! 2011 is working hard to beat 2012 before its even begun… ;)

    Looks like he may be on the move today, but doubt it’s anywhere far. London perhaps? If so, I bet we’ll get more tweets soon enough.

    Niknoks…
    .
    I’m really curious why the Celtic team has adopted such a English tradition with singing a Broadway musical song at their games… I was thinking that was a crazy song to sing because it is from the musical Carousel sung after a character commits suicide. So I had to look it up and see why a sports team would embrace and surprise, it is an English tradition which started with the Liverpool team…
    .
    Wikipedia
    =======
    “You’ll Never Walk Alone” is a show tune from the 1945 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Carousel.
    .
    In the musical, in the second act, Nettie Fowler, the cousin of the female protagonist Julie Jordan, sings “You’ll Never Walk Alone” to comfort and encourage Julie when her husband, Billy Bigelow, the male lead, kills himself to avoid capture during a failed robbery. It is reprised in the final scene to encourage a graduation class of which Louise (Billy and Julie’s daughter) is a member. Billy watches this ceremony during his return to Earth.
    .
    The song is also sung at association football clubs around the world, where it is performed by a massed chorus of supporters on matchday; this tradition began at Liverpool Football Club in the early 1960s and later spread to several other clubs.[1]
    .
    [1]Liverpool vs. Leeds United, F.A. Cup Final, BBC, 1965. “The song was covered by Liverpool group Gerry & The Pacemakers in 1963. At this time, supporters standing on the Spion Kop terrace at Anfield began singing popular chart songs of the day. The mood was captured on camera by a BBC Panorama camera crew in 1964. One year later, when Liverpool faced Leeds in the cup final, the traveling Kop sang the same song and match commentator Kenneth Wolstenholme commended the ‘Liverpool signature tune’.” Paul Coslett, You’ll Never Walk Alone BBC Online. 9 June 2008.
    ==========
    .
    So I’m curious why it would be so readily adopted by the Scots or any other team if it is considered a “Liverpool signature tune.” Just curious…
    .
    BTW Happy New Year to you, Mister, and Maggie. :)

  • Manny

    I’m still giggling at your post. Happy Happy New Year. I miss your sass. Hope to see a lot more of you in the New Year. :)))

  • niknoks

    @Manny:

    It’s not a tradition to sing broadway musical songs at English football games. It’s mainly Liverpool that sing it in the English leagues, it’s a song about loss and standing together in the face of death, it’s mainly sung by clubs that have suffered great loss, both Liverpool and Celtic have.
    -
    Liverpool adopted it when Gerry and the Pacemakers (a Liverpudlian band) made the song famous in the UK in 1963.
    -
    Right, I have to prepare for 20-25 guests to descend on the house. So Happy New Year to everyone. Have a happy and healthy 2012.
