Kelly Clarkson Endorses Ron Paul

Kelly Clarkson voiced her support for Republican Ron Paul via Twitter on Wednesday (December 28)

“I love Ron Paul,” the 29-year-old American Idol champ tweeted of the Texas politician. “I liked him a lot during the last Republican nomination and no one gave him a chance. If he wins the nomination for the Republican party in 2012 he’s got my vote. Too bad he probably won’t.”

Soon after posting these statements, Kelly‘s Twitter followers accused the politician, 76, of racism and homophobia.

“I am really sorry if I have offended anyone,” Kelly clarified. “Obviously that was not my intent. I do not support racism. I support gay rights, straight rights, women’s rights, men’s rights, white/black/purple/orange rights. I like Ron Paul because he believes in less government and letting the people (all of us) make the decisions and mold our country. That is all. Out of all of the Republican nominees, he’s my favorite.”

“Man my eyes have been opened to so much hate tonight,” Kelly continued. “If y’all ever disagree with something I say please don’t feel the need to attack me. I will listen to what you say and any articles or viewpoints you have when you say it with respect. Being hateful is not a healthy way to get people to see or hear you. I was raised to respect people and their decisions and beliefs and I hope you will grant me the same decency. If you don’t agree with me simply unfollow me. It’s really that easy. I hope you don’t because I would love the chance to hear what you have to say but if you’re so blinded by hate you can’t seek peace and progress then that is your unfortunate prerogative.”

“I have never heard that he’s a racist, ” Kelly added. “I definitely don’t agree with racism, that’s ignorant… I love all people and could care less if you like men or women. I have never heard that Ron Paul is a racist or homophobe? … Or gay people?”

FYI: Kelly considers herself to be a Republican but supported the Democrats in the last election.

  • Jessica

I’m a liberal and could care less what political party she is! Wish she would have researched this guy more, but Kelly has a heart of gold and if anyone ignores that–oh well.

  • James

I knew there was a reason I disliked her.

  • gross

    Typical Hick.

  • Me

Not that I would support Ron Paul but As a fan of Kelly’s I understand she has her own political views. I also agree, she should do her research before going public with her political opinions as well or better yet keep them to yourself and just vote.

  • Dee

I think it’s great she’s endorsing Mr. Paul, she must be very intelligent, unlike most people her age.

  • http://@JenMello Jen Mello

That was just ridiculous, the way people attacked her for having her own opinion.
She can vote for whoever she wants to vote and support whoever the hell she wants to support.
Some fans think that, to be liked, one needs to be perfect and think the way everybody else wants them to think.

Just because she’s a famous singer she’s not allowed to choose? Even if this Ron Paul guy is a racist, he’s out there to be voted for, Kelly can use her citizen right on him. He’s not gonna lose or win just ‘cuz of her.
If all the haters who bad mouthed her last night moved their butts to go vote against the guy, he wouldn’t win. Problem solved! No need to spend time offending her for having a freaking mind! But it’s easier to talk on twitter than to actually make a change in your country, isn’t it?

I’m terribly ashamed of being part of the fandom, when some “fans” act like that.

  • A

It’s “I couldN’T care less” ,Kelly. I could NOT care less.
    Say it after me: I….couldn’t…care…less.
I’m not even American or an English native speaker and I know this.

  • Dee

I think it’s great she’s endorsing Mr. Paul, she must be a very independent thinker unlike most people her age.

  • Oh.

She supports a known racist and homophobe. Good to know.

  • BEAN

Although I’m for Obama 2012, Ron Paul is the best Republican candidate that actually stands for conservative values. He actually should be Libertarian, but anyhow, I am please she didn’t just ‘change her mind’ and say she ‘should have researched’. If we all researched more thoroughly we probably wouldn’t vote, but hey where would that get you. So she is a Republican. So? Good thing she’s not being a hypocrite and is actually sticking to values of that party. Now the people who voted McCain/Palin have answering to do.

  • T

@Oh.: And our Attorney General Eric Holder is a racist and Obama supports him

  • Jessica

@Oh.: She said multiple times she was not aware of this. Kelly is neither of those, so give her the benefit of the doubt.

  • http://kennowen.blogspot.com/ Ganymede

Ron Paul is for limited government. It’s racist AND homophobic to assume that certain groups NEED Big Government to do everything from pay their bills to wiping their nether regions. Ron Paul is also for limited Government itrusion into foreign matters. No more undeclared wars and unlimited foreign assistance. How is that not a good thing? If you NEED Government to do everything for you, by all means vote for President Obama. Possibly he’ll find a way in the second term to have Government do the voting for you in the future as well. No point in troubling you with having to think, after all.

  • http://muchmusic.com Jordan

Meh, her choice, definately not mine but in all actuality, I still don’t like her music!

  • Pelo

She ignored the factual evidence brought up because there were some mean comments on the same page. Not sure why she thinks thats a good enough excuse to avoid the truth about Ron Paul.

Anybody that sports that nut and his views, has got to be a nut too.

  • wicked wench

    Dear Kelly,

Obviously your fan base is comprised of uninformed idiots who allow themselves to be mentally programmed by the biased news media. Both liberals and conservatives are petrified by the possibility that an honest outsider might actually win this election, especially since he steals thunder from both parties: ie: economic conservative, foreign affair and civil rights liberal.

    Here are the facts:

Facts: Ron Paul is the father of the libertarian party. The libertarian platform is as follows:

1.3 Sexual orientation, preference, gender, or gender identity should have no impact on the government’s treatment of individuals, such as in current marriage, child custody, adoption, immigration or military service laws. Government does not have the authority to define, license or restrict personal relationships. Consenting adults should be free to choose their own sexual practices
    and personal relationships.

1.4 Recognizing that abortion is a sensitive issue and that people can hold good-faith views on all sides, we believe that government should be kept out of the matter, leaving the question to each person for their conscientious consideration.

If someone can find in these statements a platform for racial hatred and bigotry, let me know. Methinks most people are intentionally ignorant.
STOP BEING brainwashed by the media. BE RADICAL: educate yourself on the issues and learn to think for yourself!

  • The ORIGINAL Miami D.

@A: That’s obvious, because if you were, you would know it’s correct both ways NUMBNUTS!

  • Jessica

@Pelo: I doubt she is avoiding it. But when you get THAT many rude and hurtful comments, it can be hard to ignore.

  • SkinnyBitch

Typical inbred white ugly fat trash.

  • wicked wench

    Dear Kelly,

In anticipation of some accusers, you should arm yourself with as much information as possible.

Question: If Ron Paul is a libertarian, why is he running as a Republican candidate?

Answer: Strategy. As a member of a third party, a Libertarian candidate has no chance of winning in a two party system comprised of Republicans and Democrats. The only possibility of a libertarian candidate making it into the White House is by hijacking one of the two parties and running under that platform.

    Enter Ron Paul.

America’s increasing debt to China and it’s unwillingness to take responsibility for its fiscal choices has already led to America dropping a point (fiscally, we are no longer a first world country but a second one.) Unlike the other candidates who give lip service to fiscal conservatism, Ron Paul understands the history of capitalism in America. A return to the gold standard is actually a liberal move, since capitalism is based on a cash value system rather than a use value one.

If you don’t understand what I’m talking about, pick up Marx’s The Communist Manifesto. That’s some uber-liberal reading material that should wet your fans panties.

Here’s where Paul talks about capitalism:

Know your stuff, girl, or the liberals and conservatives will roast you on an open fire!

  • SkinnyBitch

And don’t say I’m racist because I’m white and if you’re white you know how much we look down on her type of people.

  • [~Fug Face Man!ston~]

She’s a Republican.. Nothing more needs to be said.

  • He’s a racist and homophobe….but oooh, he’s so nice ;-) Stupid girl.

  • anon

    @Oh.:

Wow, so many people are willing to buy mainstream media’s narrative on Ron Paul. What many of you people should be asking your selves is why members of the establishment of BOTH parties constantly belittle him, his message and his supporters with obfuscations and derision. Clearly anyone not in denial can see he has a message that is resonating with MANY people throughout America. Could it be he is a threat to the status quo? There are a lot of “interest groups” that will be very unhappy if he gets in; not Americans but “interest groups” and those that profit by expending time, energy and resources keeping THOSE “interest groups” happy. You know, the same ones you keep electing from both parties that always seem to have difficulty with the time, energy and resources needed for issues YOU think are important.

  • THANK YOU!

Thanks you, wicked wench and GANYMEDE! You speak the truth!
I’m voting Libertarian, all the way, including Ron Paul. The Reps and Dems are destroying this country.

  • muppets

Michelle Branch also supports him *deletes that one song of hers I had on my itunes*

  • Darina

Thank you, anon, also, you guys are saying just what I’m thinking. ROn Paul is not racist or a hater of gays. Quit believing his enemies, people. His enemies are actually YOUR enemies, too.

  • AMY

    EEEWWWWWWWWWWWWW

  • Chase

Im gay. 25. and I LOVE Kelly. and I LOVE Ron Paul. He was the only candidate to sign to repeal DADT. His view on gays isnt what the big mouth media is making it to be. He believes government should stay out of marriage period! Leave it to the church or contractors to marry someone. I agree with her here.

Hey it could have been worse…. she could have said she liked batsh*t crazy Michele Bachmann!

  • Regina

Wow. Just … wow. This severely lessens my like of her.

  • Moore

    STUPID WOMAN.
I’ve liked you but NOT anymore. BYE.

  • A

@The ORIGINAL Miami D.: It’s only correct if you mean you actually COULD care less which isn’t the case in, well, most cases.
It’s I couldn’t care less because you couldn’t care any less! Jesus, what do they teach you over there?

Kelly Clarksonn – so young and uninformed and STUPID!

  • MIke

orange and purple people rights? Uhm if someone is purple it means they’re choking and you should save them. Orange is probably a skin color somewhere, but that’s really crass. If you have to say all of these things after “I support gay rights”, you support gay rights in a general sense, like, oh well they’re human so they should get to live.

  • MIke

hopefully phase two of this mess doesn’t become, how dare all you haters attack me you’re all full of hate… because that phase gets annoying.

  • mkhay

some people are so dumb on here it makes my head hurt.
who gives a crap who she likes. its her opinion. it doesnt affect you so leave it alone.

  • Jasmine

She’s from Texas, what do you expect?
I’m not a Republican, but I was kind of drawn in by some things Ron Paul was saying. That is, until I did my research and found out about his disgusting racist comments. She should have done more thorough research before publicly endorsing a person. That should just be common sense.

  • offtheproperty

    I love Kelly Clarkson!!!
    I like Ron Paul, too.
    But not as much.

  • David Otto

Next time do your research before you endorse someone! If you are going to use your public stance the be ready for the firestorm when you do something stupid.

Your fans did not give you a public forum so you could play in politics anymore than fans have given entertainers with liberal views a forum for politics.

Research Ron Paul and you will find that he is not Libertarian; he is a opportunist who has gotten rich by pretending to be a true Libertarian. Libertarians are not racist , not homophobes and they have more sense that to believe in every crazy conspiracy theory that creeps down the road.

Be a shinning example to your fans by being an educated voter! Research ever politician in depth; not all that appears to be gold is actually gold.

  • David Otto

    @mkhay:

It does make a difference, what she says, because she does have influence on people1 there are fans who will not do their own thinking and research; they will take her word for things.

  • http://ron-paul-2012-occupy-the-election.blogspot.com/ SmartGirl

RON PAUL IS STILL WINNING. Despite the fake hate campaign.

  • Sean Groener

Let’s all not get mad at her for being informed and not letting the media make up her mind for her. Paul is not a racist. The claims that he is are easily disproved with a simple google search. Yet the media hangs on to that single falsity because really, that’s all they can say negative about him.
