James Franco Sells 'Actors Anonymous' Novel to Amazon Publishing

James Franco is publishing his first novel called “Actors Anonymous” through Amazon Publishing.

“The novel is very unique, navigating the peak of James’ career,” a source with knowledge of the deal tells JustJared.com. “It combines memoir, poetry, and fiction in hilarious and unsettling ways.”

Adds our source, “‘Actors Anonymous‘ will be published in hardcover, paperback, and audio formats. The e-book version will include enhanced and interactive features.”

James, who turns 34 in April, published a collection of short stories through Scribner called “Palo Alto”.

The Observer first reported the news of the book deal.

Good for him, it’s just grating towards so many authors out there struggling to get their material published when almost any actor or actress can get theirs published without any merit of quality attached.

Isn’t Amazon Publishing basically self-publishing. You pay an outrageous fee to publish and then you get money back from each book sold vs. the publisher pays you plus royalties? If so, then anyone with the start up money can publish regardless of quality.
