    Lily Allen wanted a baby so badly and then she sticks a name like “Ethel” on her? The kid will hate it and be very angry with her mother when she gets older. She can change it. I had a cousin “Nellie” who changed her name to “Natalie” and everyone calls her by her new name now.

    sounds to me that it’s the name that Lily’s mother wants the baby to have.

    @Tazla:

    I think you’re overreacting. It isn’t a popular name amongst young girls, but it is an existing, traditional name, not something weird like Bear Blu, Trixibelle or Pilot Inspektor, that might be embarassing for a child. I’m not a big fan of this name either, but I don’t think it’s that shocking or a reason to hate the parents. Maybe it’s a family name and that’s why she chose it? After reading lists of some awfully ridiculous, “not-a-real-name” names, that some celebrities gave their children, I am always glad when the new celebrity parents name their children with an actual names, even if those little old-fashion ones. Many elderly women are named Ethel, because it was popular back in the 20′s or 30′s. Trends in names like trends in clothes come and go and some, that are now considered old-fashioned, might make a big come back in a couple of years and then many little girls will be named Ethel and it will be normal. Weird names like Morrocan will never become normal.

    Ethel Mary… kinda sounds like an alcoholic beverage? lol. Unique though… can’t say I’m surprised. I don’t know of very many celebrities that name their children “normal” names.

    Kind of strange, but she could always just go by Mary if she hates “Ethel.”

    Congrats to Lily.

    I’d love to see some posts about her brother Alfie though. He’s Theon Greyjoy on Game of Thrones.

    Or just more posts about Game of Thrones actors in general.

    I think Ethel is a named that is not only beautiful but it is to be cherished! My mother’s name was Ethel Rose and I miss her dearly. She passed on 10-22-2006 at the age of 81. Since I have not heard her name for awhile it brought memories racing back and they were great.

    Take that shady pines– and the rest of you who have little or no understanding.

    Old Fashioned is the new cool because GenY/Mill have no aesthetic to call their own…The last generation to stylistically define a decade was Gen X with both the grunge & hip hop being the iconic look & lifestyle of the day….and nothing has changed since, because today’s kids are duller than a plastic butter knife with zero inclination to deviate from what was done before them. Oh okay, ear stretchers. Thats about it. No generation has (thankfully) ever embraced ear stretchers. Not exactly a look I would want my generation to be defined by.

    Back off. My kids have classic names. Sorry you all are disappointed that she didn’t name her baby Apple, Bear, La’Fawnda or Butt-scratcher. It’s a classy, REAL name. Good job Lily.
