Gerard Butler: Surfing Accident Was A 'Close Call'

Gerard Butler ducks out of The Box nightclub on Friday (January 6) in London, England.

The night before, the 42-year-old Scottish actor attended a special screening of his new movie Coriolanus.

Gerard also recently appeared on The Graham Norton Show where he talked about his scary surfing accident while filming his other movie, Of Men and Mavericks, in Northern California.

“[The waves] just took me in, and I couldn’t get up. It was pretty hairy. It was maybe of of the few times that reports were not exaggerated. It was a pretty close call,” he shared.

“I was actually in the ambulance and wanted to go back, which was a little crazy. But [surfing is] pretty addictive,” Gerry added.

FYI: Gerard is wearing Joe’s Classic Fit with Rogue‘s leather biker jacket.

    .
    So you are saying the reporter lied about the content. Or maybe you haven’t been part of the elite crowd that gets the raunchier show. They did say there are two very different areas as to clientele and content.
    .
    I like to think I’m not a prude and oh the stories I could tell about what we have extracted, out of places those objects should never have been inserted, at the hospital… but I don’t see how watching people performing sex acts makes for a frolicking good time… And I agree with the poster above that said “demeaning to the participants.” Can’t imagine making a living debasing myself that way… but again, I’m just a provincial American nurse… with self-esteem.
    .
    BTW I’m perfectly calm. If that’s entertainment to you, more power two ya. Just don’t worry about saving me a seat. It’s just not my cup of … vodka…

  • wtf?

    chicken little….manny …niknoks….moi…sharon….kat…. et al.,

    i am not racist or homophobic or amoral…have to confess i had to look up xenophobe, not that either……

    i like to think i am pretty free thinking….but i think some things are best left BEHIND the bedroom doors….

    as a fan, his appearance here, even on a mild night and recognizing that he is a single, fully testosteroned man on the prowl….

    still make me feel a lil less enamoured with him … :(…

    thumb me for being honest if you like

    i respect and understand your opinions though but this time i’m with manny

  • Moi

    @Manny:

    No need to get offended. I was in VIP both times. Same shows, just a better spot to see them. Hey, to each their own. I’m not saying anyone lied, just that I’ve never seen that take place. I do think it’s interesting that you can have a certainty of opinion when you’ve never been there. But not going to argue, everyone definitely has a right to their opinion. I’m off! Have a great evening.

  • wtf?

    manny looks like i’m heading for a disappearing post…hahahaha

    because i don’t approve of the Box?..wtf? indeed

    just want to say to my fans tonight if i’m a prude because of my comments and feelings than i’m proud of it……otta here…but i find the debate interesting…..

  • Manny

    @Moi:
    .
    Not offended. I have my opinion and you have yours. Not condemning what you enjoy either. I just can’t or maybe won’t wrap my head around that as entertainment.
    .
    As for certainty of opinion, I read what I read and you shared nothing to change my way of thinking. I’m a big girl. I’ll own my opinion. :)
    .
    Have a safe fun evening.
    .
    @wtf?:

    I understand that it is different strokes for different folks. I’m just not going to join in with the “in crowd” on this one I guess. Prude table for two. Want to join me wtf?

    @Manny:

    I wouldn’t put it past the Daily Mail to lie, they have done before and had to make numerous apologies for it and they are currently being investigated as part of the phone hacking scandal over here. They are well known for their hysterical rants, some of them are quite amusing, some just down right offensive. If the shows were that horrific there is no way the Royals would be ‘allowed’ to set foot in there, the powers that be would put a stop to it….
    -
    @wtf?:

    It’s cool if it’s not your thing, the point I was trying to make, maybe somewhat clumsily, is that the Daily Mail is not the best place to get information on a night club, particularly one that is a bit raunchy, as the Daily Mail seems to find sex that isn’t marital, straight, missionary or for child bearing purposes, abhorrent.
    -
    What I object to most is people saying that anyone that goes should be embarrassed or ashamed, just because something is not their cup of tea, it doesn’t make it embarrassing or shameful.

    Good evening, nice
    were a girl more
    after five minutes
    and you were someone special
    without speaking, without touching
    something inside ignited
    in your eyes it was getting late
    and I forgot the clock
    These days with you
    who really taught me
    no time given
    to begin to love
    I feel something so deep
    unexplained
    there is no reason or logic in my heart
    (chorus)
    come into my life
    I open the door
    in your arms is no longer empty nights
    come into my life
    I will pray
    I began by surprise
    but then I started to need
    Good evening, nice
    There is no one else
    after this time together
    I can not go back
    You spoke to me, touched me
    and you became my dream
    want you to be mistress of my heart
    (chorus)
    Enter my hours
    save me now
    open your arms
    strong
    and let me in.
    ………………………AMOR…..AMOR….AMOR……..I LOVE YOU……Adios…

    @niknoks:
    .
    Thanks for the update on the Mail. I wish I had your faith in the Royals that you do. Since Harry’s Nazi costume fiasco I have questioned his judgment and came to believe that the Palace didn’t have quite as tight of rein on him as one would think.
    .
    As for saying someone should be ashamed or embarrassed… Maybe I should rephrase my comment to say, if it was me, I would hang my head in embarrassment and be ashamed if there was even the slightest change my mother knew I frequented that kind of place? I felt that same way when Butler spent time at Voyeur in LA and stayed for afterhours with that stripper. It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth, but hopefully not his. :)))
    .
    BTW hubby just was on a case where they worked with the local K-9 unit there in Nevada. He said it was quite a wonder to watch those teams work. He garnered a lot of respect for how intuitively the dogs and handlers worked together. I was glad he had that kind of assistance for this particular case. Wish your Mister and Maggie the best for me. And always, hugs to you. :)

    Sort of off topic… been sketching a little lately and been looking at a lot of work by others online and found these and thought you all might enjoy them. It is fascinating to me how some have a talent that can turn a simple piece of paper into something so alive. Enjoy…

    @Manny:

    It’s not that I have particular faith in the Royals, I’m a bit of a Republican in that sense (and that sense only ;-p), but the young Royals have had the reins pulled pretty tight of late (clubbing is not an issue but ‘sex clubs’, as the Daily Mail would have us believe, definitely not), partly because of Harry’s antics in the past (I thought the Nazi costume was ill-advised but also blown way out of proportion). I do love Harry though, he is my favourite Royal.

    ” oh the stories I could tell about what we have extracted, out of places those objects should never have been inserted, at the hospital…”

    omg, poor you, lol

  • Manny

    @niknoks:
    .
    I think Harry is so fun to watch. I absolutely loved him at the Royal Wedding whispering to William as Kate walked up the aisle.
    .
    I saw a wonderful interview with the Princes here on American TV where they talked about what each other is like and their charities. If I hadn’t already thought they were just adorable I would have fallen for them all over again. Diana would be proud IMO as they were so approachable (something I believe she brought to the House of Windsor) and cheeky. They both had great wit and I was actually disappointed when the interview was over.
    .
    Kate is fast becoming my favorite. Fresh face to the Royals and she is lovely. I love watching her.

    It is hard to accept that anything shocks Butler. His crusades of the sexual sort have undoubtedly allowed him a peek behind many a curtain. Hey, if The Box had live music accompanying the shows, and I was invited to VIP, I would have to pause a moment and consider….LOL! It’s nothing new. Graham Norton about to come on BBC America here. Night all! Be safe and kind! XXO

  • Manny

    @Honestly:
    .
    I have a thing for Butler as you do otherwise we wouldn’t be here. He is a handsome lug and definitely unpredictable in his behavior. Kind of fun to watch IMO. As for serious… nope. Haven’t even seen MGP and it was in my area for a week. If I was a die-hard I would have been front and center for at least one showing.
    .
    If being a prude means the thought of watching someone mast*rbate in front of a bunch of people for their entertainment is sad and demeaning, call me a prude. I am who I am.

    For some reason my posts are completely dispearing like magic, I wonder who the magician could be, I suppose I’m really not allowed to be posting here in the first place. I feel GB has many mixed emotions going on, lots of high and lows. Does he in fact have a private hellicopter? I wouldn’t doubt it, closest thing he will ever have to being superman. Dear Cholita, I’ve been sending messages to u, but they are dispearing, I send much love and light. Go for it Butler, make your mark and fame, good luck with biding time. Take good care, Please leave my posts alone. From high in the mountains @ my retreat, love dargabriel aka archeia hope, forever.

    What the bl**dy he** is going on here. In 4 pages this thread degenerated into a discussion of what seems to be Acts of P*rn, when the pix of GB show him doing nothing but wearing a cap and looking down at…who knows what? Every time he appears without a smile on his face people wonder what’s wrong in his life.

    I have no idea what The Box is or what they do there, but getting the idea. In my youth (college age and soon after) when I liked to Explore the Fringes and Walk on the Wild Side a little, I saw some places. I was even a backup dancer in a club in Paris, wearing not much but definitely a push-up bra stuffed with socks so we looked more stacked than we were. I had applied for jobs with the BIG clubs, like the Lido and Follies Bergere but was turned down (too short, Lido, not a French citizen, illegal, Follies.)
    I saw some of those shows and in some the statuesque model types danced in nothing but a pair of spike heels. I recall one show in which an equally well dressed man sported an artificial…ahem…2 feet or so long and ran around pretending to…ahem… the mares. People laughed themselves silly. I also recall seeing either real or simulated…ahem…in Manila. /and even in Honolulu. Matronly, prim looking ladies left the theater smiling.
    My honky tonk dancing in skimpy satin and velvet and feathers was sedate in comparison. :)
    I don’t care what people do for fun as long as nobody gets hurt. But is all this the result of too much repression?

    “I wouldn’t put it past the Daily Mail to lie, they have done before and had to make numerous apologies for it and they are currently being investigated as part of the phone hacking scandal over here. ”
    .
    It’s quite the norm for reporters and journalists to be on the sly, listening on private phone conversations in the UK. It’s not just reserved to the Daily Mail or to conservatives. It’s done on both sides of the aisle.

    Remember how many scandals involved Diana and phone hacking? There were always accusations against someone on her stuff hacking her private phone conversations. It’s common place in the UK. In America it’s less accepted and lead to many a prosecutions.

    BTW, Pierce Morgan is also involved in the phone hacking and he’s by no means a conservative.

  • Thank You

    Just watched the Graham Norton show with Butler and the rest. The funniest line to me was when Butler told Noel Gallagher, after Norton pointed out that he sang it at his birthday party, that Wonderwall is his song and Noel replied without missing a beat or changing expression, “No, no I think it’s MY song.”. HAHAHA! Classic! All four were excellent! Frammie got too much air time. The dog was a pairrfect touch. Take care all of you and be safe and happy. XXO

    thinking about getting a perm so the three of us can be twins

  • Sharon

    @wtf?:
    @Manny:
    I have the same opinions as both of you. Furthermore, I resent being called sexually repressed because I assign a higher value to my sexuality. Some of us have higher standards than the rest of the riffraff that go to these places, and I’m not ashamed of saying it. I don’t think it makes me racist either.
    .
    That being said, we don’t know the whole story of why he was there. He looks disappointed for whatever reason. Maybe some buddies of his asked him to meet them there and after awhile he just got up and left???

    It’s just not like him to have such a look on his face. He looks either tired or bored, and he looks like he wasn’t into being there.
    .
    Whatever it is, i don’t think he was hiding his face from the paps.
    This pic looks like he just had something in his eye, not as if he is covering his face. http://justjared.buzznet.com/photo-gallery/2615181/gerard-butler-box-nightclub-02/

    To me he looked bored, tired, and not amused. Probably wanted to get home and rest. For all we know, maybe these places don’t hold the same fascination for him anymore.

  • Sharon

    @Sharon:
    LOL, I meant staff, not stuff
    There were always accusations against someone on her staff hacking her private phone conversations.. Diana that is.

  • niknoks

    @Sharon:

    I never said phone hacking and lying was limited to conservative newspapers, I was talking specifically about the Daily Mail.
    -
    While Piers Morgan is not a conservative, when he ‘allegedly’ got up to illegal antics he was working for the NotW, owned by Rupert Murdoch.

  • Sharon

    @niknoks:
    LOL, Murdoch is not the only one with these tactics in the UK. This kind of stuff happens every other day in the UK. It just depends on who is accusing, and who is the accused, in any given time. Right now, is the left accusing the right in their hypocrisy, while they do the same thing, of course.

  • niknoks

    @Sharon:

    Again, never said it was limited to Murdoch or conservatives or the UK for that matter….. trying to put words in my mouth is pretty pointless when everyone can read what I’ve written, same with you bleating about being called a racist, nobody has called you a racist.

    Maybe your post has been deleted because I can’t find it. To the poster who said GB looked uncomfortable and his demeanor changed after he mentioned he and Ralph having a homoerotic scene, it doesn’t appear to me that way. He appeared a bit tired, restless, and somewhat bored out of his mind from the beginning of the show. Probably, he was anxious to have the show end already. I don’t think he liked having to sit there and listen to 3 other guests tell their stories, while he could be doing “other things.” We know his patience wear thin, and he is a very restless dude. He needs to have one whole segment devoted just to him in order to be fully engaged, and not appear bored, tired, or restless. Once his segment ends, he leaves and goes about his business. I think that’s the best talk-show scenario for him
    .
    Look at around point 33.34 in the video,
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zmh7dV3xTc ,
    he starts staring into space, then he nervously starts picking his cuticles, then he catches himself and he stops. I also noticed him once or twice just about to yawn, but he stops himself again. Also, throughout the show you can catch him staring into space a number of times when he is not talking with Graham, coming back alive only with the joke he cracked about the Arab Stallion, and of course that was also the end of the show so no wonder he was “waking up” for that.

    It’s possible he didn’t have enough time to sleep after he returned from Morocco, but either way, this man likes to run on empty, and he is also a very restless dude.

  • PsychoB

    Well you can call me a prude all day , but I would rather know someone before they can spray their bodily fluids in my direction. I’m funny that way. Whatever you label the show, it sounds like something I will pass on. And it is not because I’m an American or racist, but because I don’t find it entertaining to watch exploitation. Which is exactly what it is. People are paying to see oddities just like the old circuses.
