Gerard Butler: Surfing Accident Was A 'Close Call'

Gerard Butler ducks out of The Box nightclub on Friday (January 6) in London, England.

The night before, the 42-year-old Scottish actor attended a special screening of his new movie Coriolanus.

Gerard also recently appeared on The Graham Norton Show where he talked about his scary surfing accident while filming his other movie, Of Men and Mavericks, in Northern California.

“[The waves] just took me in, and I couldn’t get up. It was pretty hairy. It was maybe of of the few times that reports were not exaggerated. It was a pretty close call,” he shared.

“I was actually in the ambulance and wanted to go back, which was a little crazy. But [surfing is] pretty addictive,” Gerry added.

FYI: Gerard is wearing Joe’s Classic Fit with Rogue‘s leather biker jacket.

“We should learn how to get along with the environment, not destroy it for the use by humans, especially for recreational purposes.

I bet there is a sign at Mavs that says, “Surf at your own risk.” Just another saying for “Don’t fool with Mother Nature.”
I don’t understand why saving Gerard Butler from certain death by drowning has anything to do with destroying the environment. The movie set weren’t using jet skis for recreational purposes, only to save the actors and stuntmen from the giant waves. Surly, NOAA could have displayed some sympathy. In essence, NOAA is telling the rescuers, if you rescue your actors, you’re going to get fined, implying that its regulations are more important than human life. It’s a disgrace. If one of those regulators’ child was caught in such waves, would they have said let him/her drown? Of course not.
NOAA is doing this because it’s another corrupt agency interested in collecting fines for itself. This action had nothing to do with protecting wildlife since the movie set was using jet skis for emergencies. It was just an opportunity for NOAA to collect money from supposed rich movie folks.

NOAA is a lying thieving organization that shouldn’t be supported. It’s corrupt as most other government agencies.
“As a result of their choosing to fight the fine, the agency, which judges its own cases, raised their ticket from $500 to $2,500.”
LOL! They judge their own cases and you have no recourse against them. How convenient!
“NOAA has been under fire on the East Coast from journalists and legislators. An investigation by Dan Rather showed the government agency had stockpiled a $100 million fund from assets seized from fishermen. Rather produced documents from the Freedom of Information Act showing NOAA enforcement officials used the money for cars, yachts and even a trip to Asia with one of the judges who pronounced sentences and seized assets from the alleged violators. Rather’s show called “Something Fishy,” documented a federal agency run amok. Despite repeated requests, Congressman Sam Farr (D-Carmel) whose 17th District includes the Monterey Bay Sanctuary, has declined to comment on the investigation of NOAA or its alleged actions on either coast.
NOAA has many incentives to issue tickets and fines since it keeps the money. It’s just another corrupt government agency with too much power in its hands. This reminds me of the famous quote “Absolute power corrupts absolutely,” by historian Lord Acton later quoted later by Winston Churchill. Our government has too much power, which it abuses. And who elects the government? “We the people.” The government, the politicians, they work for us; we’re their boss, not the other way around. Yet, they treat us as their slaves.
These people at NOAA don’t really care about wildlife. They get our tax dollars, which pay their salaries, and their agents collect high fines and size personal assets for their own personal gains. All government agencies are plagued by the same sickness. There is just too much regulation in this country. Every industry has moved overseas to escape the heavy regulations. Even the movie industry has been making movies for decades in Canada. Now some studios have opened shop in China as well. There is no regulation in china. When industries move overseas we lose jobs and lose our competitive edge in the world. Pretty soon China and India, even Brazil, will replace the US as the economic powers of the world. And we did it to ourselves because of our own stupidity.
Not that I agree with absolutely no regulations, mind you. I only think that regulation should be greatly curtailed in this country. Not everything needs to be regulated and policed by the government. Besides, too much regulation leads to heavy lobbying, which we all hate. Our laws are the result of push and pull. Special interest groups petition the government and push for heavy regulations. As a response, big businesses lobby the government to pull these regulations back. Finally, it comes down to who has more money to influence congress, which is usually big business, and that leads to more corruption. It’s a never-ending cycle of corruption. Read some of the comments, they echo my feelings. At least there are still people that can think in this country. Not everyone has bought into drinking the government koolaid.

“‘Ironically, in December, actor Gerard Butler was caught in a set of big waves. He was held down underwater for two waves before popping up and being pulled out of the punishing surf by a safety patrolman on a PWC. The actions likely saved Butler’s life.

On Thursday, NOAA wasn’t in the business of helping to save lives. It issued three tickets to the PWC safety patrolman working on the movie. “Heated discussions” were involved.
This is your corrupt government in action. They don’t care about saving lives, just taxing whomever they can to support the existence of their jobs. I hope their jobs go up in smoke.

Evening JJrs! Just saw GB with Alan on the Red Carpet plus his greeting Kristen Wiig – his hair looks great! Man looks yummy in a tux!

Saw Moneyball last night – all I can say is sorry still not a BPitt fan – if this wins any awards in the future – it will be a travesty – so incredibly dull : statistics and baseball – didn’t see what the fascination is. My opinion only. Loved Midnight in Paris!

Can’t wait to watch the rest. Some of the dresses are really lovely. However, a few of those actresses need to eat a cheeseburger – thank goodness the wind isn’t blowing!

Ravens v. Texans today – watched in the nail spa/sport spa today – amazing back & forth in the 3rd & 4th qtr. Ravens finally nailed it!

Enjoy Gervais – he’s funny as heck – i love his ribald humor! Hope everyone enjoys their day off tomorrow – I have to work then back to travel again starting Wednesday.

Hugs to all enjoying the evening. Stay safe, sane and happy!
