@cupcake:
Pic or it didn’t happen.

This is a working/networking night for Gerry and Alan…not a prowling night. He just watched former co-stars win (or read as nominees) for important awards. He’s gotta be thinking about where he is seated and where they were seated tonight and how he can get into those circles. A date would just slow him down.

Maggie P.U. @ 01/15/2012 at 11:49 pm

@Nat,,,75 -”If he wants to be a major award winner, he will work hard for it” I agree with you Nat. I am sure he knows by now what he needs to do to get to that “level” Like I have said, he has come along way and I like how he supports his friends and fellow actors/actresses. He also needs to find a older “mentor” to inspire him like say Sir Anthony Hopkins, Gene Hackman…. he had siad his favorite actor was Christian Bale. Anyway, finals/exams due in Tuesday…**waves**

Peace.

He looked great, he looked happy to be alive on that red carpet and clapped for everyone. The man does not envy no one, he feels happy for them all.

@cara:
He’s an actor, you know. And actors are good at acting even when they’re not working. What Gerry truly feels on the inside we will never know.

Chatting with @JoannaColes about how the older actresses are looking so much better than the younger ones

Eg. Jane Fonda, wow.

I think he is too old to have a mentor at his age. Besides, if he can’t find inspiration on his own, from within, he mind as well quit.

That said, he is not married and has no family. That plays a factor. People who have families have more of a burning need to succeed. They feel more responsibility. Unusually, married men with kids do better in their careers than single men with less responsibility do. Last week on the Graham Norton show, Noel Gallagher said the more children you have the harder you want to work. I think it’s pretty much how many men feel. Since he doesn’t have the support system of the married family man, I think Gerry needs to find that inspiration from within, especially by not shying away from challenging roles no matter how emotionally tasking they are. Of course, if he were in love with a woman who truly loves and supports him, she could also help him be more focused on his career and find a more successful path. Absent all of these things, I think he needs to find that inspiration from within. Coriolanus is a good project, however short his role was. Those 20 minutes were enough to showcase his great acting abilities, not to mention his amazing physique. Let’s keep em’ rolling.

@cara:

I agree. Envy is not a good emotion. It has a tendency to make us resentful and unhappy.

I think Gerard feels genuinely happy for all of his friends in the business that won tonight. I think he focuses on himself, instead of focusing on what other people have, their success, and envying it. You can see it on his face. He believes his time will come too. He has to believe in himself. If he didn’t believe in himself, do you think he would have left a law career to chase after such a hard- to-attain dream? Of course he believes in himself, and he believes that his success depends on him and his drive to make it. If only more people focused on themselves and making their desires and dreams come true, we would’t have so much class envy in this country right now. Envy is not an aid to success at all. Persistence and determination – never giving up – is the way to succeed. Gerry is a tough guy. If anyone can make dreams come true it’s him.

Hollywood Gossiper @ 01/16/2012 at 1:42 am

@WOW:

The question is what is his dream. I think fans may attribute loftier goals than he in fact has. Which is not his problem it is OUR problem.

Maggie P.U. @ 01/16/2012 at 1:43 am

@84 WOW…true. The more challenging the more he will get that confidence and inspiration. That is why I had said he may need to clean house or “pick up” a bit…meaning he needs to tell whoever to target such roles and he himself needs to get some chones’ and like you said not shy away.

It is true also, when you have support in that special way it helps and makes things easier especially in the career aspect. As for mentors that are old you are never to old to have a “older” inspiration provided you yourself are grounded and are ready to take on whatever comes cross your path :) I did not see Corilanous but read and heard about it. Now, this is the type of role he needs….hopefully he can get another one (or 2)

Peace.

I forgot to respond to the cleaning up house that you mentioned before. I definitely agree with you on that point. I for a long time have thought that he might need to get a new management in place. Maybe he outgrew what he had and it’s time to move on. I don’t know, it’s a thought. In any case, even though his performance in MGP was extremely good, I would have told him not to take that project for a myriad of reasons, too many to list here.

Coriolanus, on the other hand, is right up my ally, however short his role was. I love that whole idea of taking Shakespeare and modernizing it. Shakespeare is always timeless, all he needs is a bit of modernization and Voilà. You can’t go wrong with Shakespeare.

dargabriel @ 01/16/2012 at 1:57 am

@Moira: omgosh, I’m so sorry these women are down right cruel, you go for it, enjoy Mr. Butler, trust me he does love you, you’re a devoted fan, don’t listen to these fools., GB hasa huge heart of gold. Love,dargabriel

@Hollywood Gossiper:
Yup, that can very well be.

However, I have a feeling he wants to have an even more of a successful career. Why else would he work so damn hard? He makes around 2 movies per year, sometimes 3. He spends the months in between making movies promoting them all over the world. He gets involved in charities, commercials, and other events that keep him constantly visible. So it leads me to believe he cares tremendously about his career. What he needs is to get better parts. But keep in mind, many projects have been stopped or put on hold, especially costlier movies, mainly because of the economy. So there isn’t much to choose from. Rom coms are just less expensive to produce and they do bring people into the theaters. They are just not awards-worthy material, that’s all. He needs to win a good award bad. Once that happens, he will get a lot better material. It has to be the next step for him if he wants to be considered a major HW star, in spite of the fact he has been lucky enough to be called an A-Lister without it still.

PLEASE anyone …..who is this Moira…..Is she Gerrys girlfriend??

Mila Kunis @ 01/16/2012 at 2:17 am

I think she is his type. 28, tall dark-haired brunette, why not? And she is Jewish and he loves Jewish. All his friends are Jewish. He got top know many Jewish people since he moved to the US 14 years ago. He feels at home in the US, as he said in a recent interview, and he understand the culture and got to meet and befriend many types of people from all backgrounds.. He is not from little Glasgow anymore.
