Check out this brand new shot of Whitney Houston and Jordin Sparks from their upcoming movie, Sparkle.
The film, inspired by the story of The Supremes, is a remake of the 1976 film of the same name. Sparkle tells the story of 3 sisters forming a successful singing group and dealing with the obstacles that come along with fame.
R. Kelly contributed new songs that will be added to the original score, written by Curtis Mayfield.
Also starring: Gossip Girl‘s Tika Sumpter, Omari Hardwick, and Cee-Lo Green.
Sparkle is set to be released in August.

For those who claim Dream Girls just be aware of the history. Sparkle (1976) was the original and came way before Dream Girls. In fact Dream Girls is the revamped play version of Sparkle for Broadway with Jennifer Holliday. Sparkle (re-make) was originally supposed to come out in 2001-2 but Aaliyah croaked in a plane crash. Otherwise, if the Sparkle was remade then, I highly doubt Dream Girls would’ve been made in 2008. But then, I assume the majority of posters here are 15 and under. SMH.
This has nothing to do with Dreamgirls. Sparkle was first released in 1976 way before Dreamgirls and the mother’s name was ‘Effie’.
Dreamgirls was inspired by Sparkle and came out on Broadway years after. They even named a character Effie after the mom in Sparkle.
Sparkle is not a musical. It’s a drama with some dark elements and singing it it. Musicals for the most part have the actor sining the dialogue which doesn’t occur in Sparkle.
Whitney looks amazing. Can’t wait to see it.

Rally that’s why her cd sold nearly 3mil copies and she can lead a movie. Jordin certainly can’t carry a movie and her last cd sold what 80k copies!

I hope it’s better than Dreamgirls was – I was disappointed. Too much Beyoncé for my liking. I’d seen the stage show several times – I just think the movie didn’t ‘grasp it’.
There’s no doubting that Whitney can act – sad that the voice isn’t what it was though. To see the before and after clips of her on YouTube is very sad. I hope for her sake it re-launches her as a serious actress. There aren’t enough good black actresses getting the breaks they deserve.

To all of you who keep talking about Dreamgirls; the name of this movie is “Sparkle.” The movie that Whitney and Jordin are doing is called “Sparkle.” It is a remake of a movie called “Sparkle.” Just because a lot of you don’t like Beyonce; this movie has nothing to do with Beyonce or Dreamgirls.
WHAT the hell does the movie Sparkle have to do with Beyonce and the movie Dreamgirls??? GEEEEZZZZ…..enough with the bogus comparison because they are TWO different movies!! Get your facts straight people.
I’m just sorry that Whitney could not overcome whatever demons that haunted her during or after her marriage to Bobby Brown. We watched her sink into a life of no return with great sadness. But we all still held hope that she would make a come back and for a minute it looked like she was on the path to do so…. so WHAT happened? We may never know. They claim she was found in a Beverly Hills hotel room. Sounds like a possible overdoes. My prayers go out to her daughter and her family. Another Angel called home by GOD, no more suffering, no more pain, no more darkness.. only the sound of her “angelic” voice showing those angels up in heaven how its truly done! Rest in peace my sister.
