Adam Lambert: Queen's New Singer?

Adam Lambert may be hitting the road with Queen this summer as the band’s new lead singer!

“The intention is to pay tribute to [the late] Freddie [Mercury] and the band by singing some f—— great songs. It’s to keep the music alive for the fans and give it an energy that Freddie would have been proud of,” the 30-year-old singer told the Daily Star.

“There’s no intention in my mind of replacing Freddie,” Adam added about his idol. “That’s impossible. The way I’m choosing to view it is that it’s a great honor and one I’m in no way going to shirk.”

Queen is slated to headline the Sonisphere Festival this summer in Knebworth, Hertfordshire, UK.

Band members Brian May and Roger Taylor previously hit the stage with Adam while he was competing on American Idol. Most recently, they performed together at the MTV EMAs in Belfast in November.

UPDATE: Adam took to Twitter to address this story. “Oooh them clever reporters takin my quotes outta context…. I haven’t confirmed any guest appearances. I was talking about the EMA’S. :)” he tweeted. “That being said, I’m truly flattered by your jump to such glorious conclusions mr journalist!! :)”

    Jaden Says:

Only one I haveever seen step foot on stage and honor Freddie was Adam Lambert at the MTVEMAs! He didn’t try to replace Freddie, he honored him and their music, I still have shivers from that performance, they were mindblowing together!!

    Very Good Choice !

I love him a little less glamourous, I think that his voice is much better in songs like Soaked, wich is great.
With Queen, he’s gonna be exactly in the place he deserves.

I’m not sure I like this. But I can’t think of any one else who would be better for it. HOWEVER, that does not mean that I think its meant to be for Adam.

    Idk if that makes sense?

I will always love Freddie, he had an amazing, incredible, and super distinguishable voice. The best ever. Maybe I’m not convinced with the idea that they’re not “replacing” him. I mean it’s a tour and they’re calling themselves “Queen” not “Queen and Adam Lambert”

Can’t wait to see this combo again, loved the EMA performance. And YES, ther will never b another Freddie, but Adam does his memory justice without trying to be him.

He’s fabulous! I really Adam with the actual Queen band though . . . He will be fierce.

Meant to say I really like Adam with the actual band! Yes, looking forward to it.

Bad idea guys. Adam is a kid, Brian and Roger aren’t. Look how Queen cuts it with a singer of their era.. Paul Rogers – just great! Paul gave continuity and he’s paid his dues. Adam Lambert has been around for 5 seconds. Never less – I wish Queen the best of luck – the hammer mustn’t fall on the Champions of rock music.

YES!! YES!!! I’ve dreamed of Adam belting out Bohemian Rapsody for a long time…he better practice, though. Freddie had an 8 octave range, if I remember correctly.

    Heather Says:

Not true. Yet again, press is running wild with unsubstantiated rumors. However, if he ever does tour with Queen, I’d love to have a front row seat. :)

Meh! Honestly not even Paul Rodgers could do what Freddie did on stage. He was one of the greatest rock stars ever to live! He was an incredible entertainer and frankly it might be just me but I don’t think Adam’s paid his dues yet to be in QUEEN. QUEEN for crying out loud! lol a legendary band but I guess we’re just gonna have to trust Roger and Brian’s judgement, anyways I’m just a fan, I’m not in the band lol

    vi Says:

There can never be another Freddy Mercury ………………….. others may try but there is only one Freddy.

    Dani Says:

It’s NOT TRUE read the damn update people, WTH are some still all yay that is great news……..when it says right there that Lambert denied it & said they took his words out of context.

Glad because NO ONE can EVER replace Freddie Mercury & Queen should not try to push someone else in there to front the band, they had their time & their music will ALWAYS live through Freddie’s voice, NO ONE else needs to sing it.

    Jaden Says:

@Lola You are right, there is only one Freddie Mercury but there is also only one Adam Lambert!! LOVE them both!!!

    kat23 Says:

    @Lola:
Freddie…not Freddy…ummm a real fan knows this…And really…how many times does Adam have to say he loved Freddie and is no way trying to replace him…and the fact that Brian May and Roger Taylor picked him to sing with them for this one time concert says it all…I do not think anyone has a right to say they were wrong…it is their band…their choice. Queen and Adam kicked behind in the EMA’s…This will be an awesome collab. Plus Adam is busy with his own music too…no doubt will be touring…this is just a guest appearance…WOW…haters are a trip.
