Nick Carter Performs 2 Days After Sister Leslie's Death

Nick Carter performs in concert at Irving Plaza on Thursday (February 2) in New York City.

The 32-year-old singer stepped out on stage wearing a spaceman suit with an astronaut helmet but later strapped on a guitar to sing “Falling Down.”

“I never thought I’d ever have to, but I’d like to dedicate this song to my sister,” Nick said, paying tribute to Leslie, who passed away earlier this week.

An incident report recently released showed Leslie might have died from an apparent overdose, though toxicology results and the official cause of death are pending.

nick carter has been performing since he was 11 years old and is still doing it for many many fans. clearly it makes him feel good to perform and if u are suffering u will want to do something and be around people that make u feel good. what better avenue than to perform? i think it actually makes A LOT of sense for him to want to do right now.

Celine Dion still performed through tears when her father passed. It’s not easy. I think it takes a lot of courage to get up there. He dedicated the song to his sister! How can you say he doesn’t care, and whose to say he didn’t tear up behind the scenes? Don’t be so narrow minded. People grieve in different ways.

Pleazzz! You can’t tell people how to grieve… i lost my father 3 months ago, and the day I found out I was at the grocery store, 2 days later I went to the movies. It’s called shock! How can someone who’s been in your life for 22 years instantly be gone? it’s hard to wrap your head around…get real!

Audience members on the front rows also witnessed him fall on his knees sobbing after singing Falling Down which he dedicated to his sister. I suspect he has been in shock the last couple of days and it is finally hitting him which is why he couldn’t do the GMA interview scheduled this morning. You are right, people grieve different ways. People also have different obligations–if he cancels this tour, his band, the venues, vendors, fans–many, MANY people dependent on revenue loose money. There is a lot of pressure on him from many sides. Hopefully he emotionally holds up under the pressure and the pain of his loss. We are all human, just that.

He was sobbing after the performance. I was at the concert last night. I don’t think there was one dry eye in that room. It was truly an emotional and heartbreaking experience. It took him a minute or two before he came back on stage and fans kept chanting. And when he did come back on stage, he said “let’s celebrate her life, god dammit, play the song,” and then “i want it that way” came on. You could hear the PAIN in his voice, when he sang, even especially during “incomplete.” It takes a lot of BALLS AND COURAGE..and strength within himself to continue and sing for his fans. Singing to us is his therapy, it’s cathartic for him and no one has the right to JUDGE how he wants to cope with the loss of his sister. And just to let you know, the day she passed away. He’s in shock and in denial.
