Kerry Washington Covers 'Essence' March 2012

Kerry Washington looks drop dead gorgeous in Rubin Chappelle on the cover of Essence magazine’s March 2012 issue.

The 35-year-old actress dished, “I think it’s a really special time to be a woman of color in this business. The landscape of who has the power is changing.”

“We are in more influential positions and are able to have a say in the stories that are told. I feel very lucky to be in the business now,” Kerry added.

Don't Agree With Kerry @ 02/04/2012 at 5:13 pm

Black women and men in HW are more isolated unless it’s a role that most feel people of color fit better in like a drug dealer, dirty cop, hooker, crazy, or a maid. Look at The Help, yeah it’s great they are being recognized but how many other movies have Viola Davis been in where she was superb but the one that she receives recognition is the one she is playing a maid. Denzel Washington has had some incredible roles but the one movie he gets recognized for is Training Day playing a thug cop. You turn on entertainment shows and it is still very unbalanced unless you are the flavor black woman or man for the month. So, no HW has not changed by much. It still has a long way too go.

Va Va Voom! Kerry is GORGEOUS! So sultry!

I don’t really believe in what she’s saying about black women. I still don’t see them in the same position of power as white women. Like, seriously, compare Angelina and Halle -_-

@Don’t Agree With Kerry: i kind of agree and then kind of not because a lot of roles that win awards are straight up messed up characters. they win because the character was messed up and there was a lot of drama involved – charlize was a crazy serial killer in monster, bale an addict in the fighter.. im just saying white people have also won for playing not so pristine or attractive characters. now how about some roles & awards for asians & hispanics??

For claiming to be so “progressive” and “liberal”, Hollywood sure does love putting stereotypes up on the big screen, especially when it comes to black people, that’s if they get on the big screen at all.

She IS pretty so why did they feel the need to Photoshop her boobs?

i don’t think they photoshopped her boobs. that white part that is just a piece of the dress

Gorgeous lady, strange dress.

She is so beautiful as she is.. why is it so obviously badly photoshopped? -.-”
