Clive Davis Holds Moment of Silence for Whitney Houston

Clive Davis Holds Moment of Silence for Whitney Houston

Clive Davis speaks onstage during his annual pre-Grammy gala held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Saturday (February 11) in Beverly Hills, Calif.

The 79-year-old Chief Creative Officer of Sony Music Entertainment came out and said some nice words about Whitney Houston, then held a moment of silence before dedicating the night to her.

Tony Bennett opened the show. His first line was “we need to legalize drugs” in this country! Whitney was originally slated to open the show before she passed away earlier in the day at the age of 48.

Also pictured inside at the party: Britney Spears with Kim Kardashian, Alicia Keys with husband Swizz Beatz, Kelly Rowland, and Serena Williams with Gladys Knight.

    Bobby Says:

I think Bobby Brown is the only one that doesn’t believe he was partly responsible for her downfall. I know, she was responsible for her own life, but I can’t help but remember her as naive and innocent at the beginning of her career… I don’t think she was strong enough for the fame and awful pressure of the business. Unfortunately, she fell in love with the wrong guy and he took her down with him. If he really loved her, he would have let her go. I still don’t get it… she had everything and she picked him.

    Bobo Says:

Was Tony trying to be funny or sarcastic? I don’t get why he would say that…

    Lalalove Says:

@Bobo: I’m trying to figure out the same thing, Bobby.

    claus Says:

Why did Tony say that? talk about awkward.

    Ben Says:

What an incredibly irresponsible thing to say by Tony Bennett. Legalizing drugs is not going to prevent deaths like Whitney’s. He should apologize. Blames America for 9/11, now this?

  6. 6
    Cassie Says:

    Dear Tony Bennett: Shut up.

    r Says:

What an idiot for saying that Tony Bennett…… I hope you’re bloody joking.

legalized drug ? He must be crazy !

    Trash Says:

Of course trash like Kim K., Britney Spears, and other D-listers would show up to this party and use this sad situation as an opportunity to get their pictures taken for attention.

  10. 10
    inappropriate Says:

Basically, he was using Whitney’s situation to promote his opinion. Whether you believe in what he said or not, totally inappropriate.

    good one Says:

    @Cassie: I love your humor!

    giuseppe sallo Says:

Huh? What difference does it make if drugs are “legalized or not?” The fact is she had a history of addiction. I feel for clive, just a sad thing to happen. I don’t care what anyone says: The Hollywood lifestyle is disgusting. There is a trend… “a misguided soul in Hollywood will lose their way eventually. “

    Lucy Says:

He say what?????? if drugs is to blame for her dead or if has nothing to do with drugs he is completly wrong for saying something like that. Is he doing drugs?

  14. 14
    Lillie Says:

    Tony huh????

party may have been great in its day but when a Kardashian shows up….(what she doing there anyway), you know the event is a has-been…..

  15. 15
    WTF Says:

and britney… YOU DO NOT LOOK RIGHT, girl…

  16. 16
    MR505 Says:

WTF, cuz legalizing drugs will really stop people from abusing it. And they’re still investigating the cause of her death, so he can speculate all he wants privately, but he shouldn’t imply things in such a public manner. (Was he on something?)

  17. 17
    MARK Says:

    Legalize DRUGS? he is IDIOT!!

  18. 18
    LOL Says:

    @Trash:

except Britney Spears is not a d-lister.
    You tried though <3

    now back to your cage.

  19. 19
    WICKED WENCH Says:

The legal status of drugs is irrelevant to Whitney’s death as it would not promote nor deter her drug use. All it would do it take what is hidden and make it public.

I don’t pretend to know why Tony felt prompted to say something like that, but it was totally inappropriate and in bad taste.

  20. 20
    lisa Says:

Yeah Tony because that was an appropriate time to make it all about your personal opinion.

  21. 21
    YEP_ITS_HER Says:

So, just hours after Whitney tragically died in the SAME HOTEL her mentor Clive Davis goes ahead with his pre grammy party? Absolutely disgusting.

    sky Says:

grandpa tony is really missing a sensitive chip

  23. 23
    MIa Says:

    Britney looks like tranny.

  24. 24
    niagirl Says:

The party should have been cancelled. I have seen interviews where Whitney says that she was smoking drugs when she met Bobby and thats why they got along so well. She said don’t let what you see up front fool you at heart was a girl from New Jersey who knows how too handle herself. I just believe money help fuel her drug use and in Bobby she found a willing partner. Her aunt Dionne has had her own issues
And from what we saw on Celebrity Apprentice the women in this family seem to be pretty strong willed. R.I.P. WHITNEY

  25. 25
    Carrie Says:

WTF is Kim K doing at the grammys? She’s not a singer, she’s trash.
