Sacha Baron Cohen Banned from Oscars 2012: Report

UPDATE: A rep for the Academy confirms that Sacha will be allowed at the ceremony, in full costume! “We’re thrilled to have him and he’ll be on the red carpet dressed as the Dictator,” co-producer Brian Glazer told E!. Another rep has said he will be at the show, but not in costume. Tune in Sunday (February 26) to find out!

UPDATE: An Academy spokesperson tells THR, “We have not banned him. We’re just waiting to hear what he’s going to do.” The mag adds that the Academy “is making it clear that [Sacha] is not welcome to use the red carpet as a platform for a promotional stunt.”

There’s a chance Sacha Baron Cohen may not be allowed to attend Sunday’s Oscars.

The 40-year-old comedian reportedly had wanted to walk down the red carpet in full costume as his title character from his upcoming film, The Dictator – a proposal the Academy wasn’t thrilled about.

“Unless they’re assured that nothing entertaining is going to happen on the red carpet, the Academy is not admitting Sacha Baron Cohen to the show,” a source told Deadline.

FYI: Sacha is an Academy member and Hugo, which he co-starred in, is up for Best Picture at the award show.
