Justin Bartha & Andrew Rannells: 'New Normal' Couple!

Justin Bartha is set to star opposite Andrew Rannells in The New Normal, a new NBC comedy created by Glee‘s Ryan Murphy and Allison Adler.

The show is a “single-camera sitcom pilot about a blended family made up of a gay couple (Rannells and Bartha) and the surrogate helping them have a baby of their own,” TVLine reports.

Georgia King will play the couple’s surrogate, and Ellen Barkin will play her grandmother.

This isn’t Justin‘s first show with NBC – he starred in Teachers, a 2006 sitcom that was canceled after six episodes.

Wow, they really are trying to force the gay lifestyle on us aren’t they? Gays are the new black in Hollywood.

While I have absolutely no problem with shows that portray homosexual characters and relationships, it’s not really a “unique” concept anymore, and yet these shows get so much attention for being groundbreaking. I’d love to see Hollywood venture out more and include other groups of diversity that are commonly underutilized and misrepresented in addition to just highlighting the gay community.

I also wonder if it may be more harm than good to make sexual orientation the main focus of a show. I’ve always thought that highlighting what makes the character “different” has the opposite effect of trying to promote acceptance and unity. That goes for any group of diversity, really. Just incorporate different types of characters who are representative of the many different types of people in the world and make it very natural without the stereotypes and focus on the difference.

stop with this gay sh*t.

Women are not incubators for children. This is very difficult terrain and to present it as though it’s not is unwise.

@SB: Who said it was groundbreaking? It’s on NBC, not HBO for god sake!

No one would be uttering a sound if the couple were straight. The only people that make this a problem are the ones that complain STFU.

I’d watch it… and what’s with Americans and their hatred of gay couples on TV? we love it in England.

@Mary:

Thank you for the kind words Mary :)

Bigotry is a way of life here in the US. We talk a good game about freedom until you aren’t a white heterosexual …. Our kids are taught to hate gay people by their parents. On Sunday they are taught hatred at their church.

There is a very large movement to get away from these primitive impulses that is promising and our judicial branch of government (court system) is finally stepping in and protecting individual rights like it was designed to do when our country was founded.

So there is hope and change on the horizon here :)

@ozzie: racism and homophobia exist everywhere. thankfully in the UK LGBT rights are recognized by the government, but it’s doesn’t stop those with hatred in their hearts. hopefully the US will acknowledge LGBT human rights soon. thank you for your explanation, Ozzie.

Great couple, great cast, and hopefully a great show! Gay means happy so haterz go ride a rainbow! lol

Yes, I guess they really are The New Normal. I”m not familiar with either of the actors, but I wish them and their new T.V. series lots of luck.
