Julia Roberts: Meryl Streep's Daughter in 'August'

Julia Roberts smiles on her way out of the salon on Thursday (February 23) in West Hollywood, Calif.

The 44-year-old actress will be playing Meryl Streep‘s daughter in the big screen adaptation of the Tony-winning play August: Osage County.

Rumors first surfaced in 2010 that the two Oscar winners would be playing mother and daughter, but The Weinstein Company recently officially confirmed the casting.

“After seeing Meryl Streep’s mesmerizing portrayal as Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady, it has me even more excited and proud to co-star with her,” Julia said in a statement (via EW).

Oh come on Hollywood. Julia Roberts is too old to play Meryl’s daughter, unless you’re bringing in the old people makeup artist and aging Meryl about 15 years. Give me a break.

She always has a smug face on (like Clooney) it is getting annoying.
Since when is she a good actress? Thank typecasting and 90′s nonsense for her boring career and fame.
At this point Meryl could play HER daughter and still make it more believable for us.

Meryl & Julia, two of my fave actresses in one movie: it’s gonna be epic!

she is so beautiful and aging so well! Unlike so many other actresses- and she looks actually natural- such a stunning lady!

SNORE. So sick of this horrible actress. Satisfaction anyone? She got lucky with a few hits. She is the biggest phony going.

Why can’t Mamie, Meryl’s real daughter, play her daughter in the film? Julia is too old to play Meryl’s daughter. Mamie is an excellent actress and she looks so much like her mother.

@Lake Como:

Have you seen the play? Barbara (the character Julia is playing) is supposed to be 46, so Julia who is 44 is perfectly suited for the part.
