Jean Dujardin Wins Oscars' Best Actor!

Jean Dujardin accepts the Academy Award for Best Actor at the 2012 Oscars held at the Hollywood & Highland Center on Sunday (February 26) in Hollywood.

The 39-year-old The Artist star beat out Demian Bichir (A Better Life), George Clooney (The Descendants), Gary Oldman (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), and Brad Pitt (Moneyball).

Jean‘s win marks the first time a French actor has taken home the Best Actor Oscar. Gerard Depardieu was nominated in 1990, while French actress Marion Cotillard won the Best Actress Academy Award in 2008 for La Vie en Rose.

Congrats Jean!!

  • Daniel

haha so happy !

  • TWPUMPKIN

  • to 4

that’s bad for uneducated Americans LOL but you know you don’t need to read subs, because the movie has none

  • Sarah.

What a handsome man. Congratz to him! I haven’t seen the movie but will now. Some think it’s ridiculous he won, for a silent movie and he speaks only 2 words or something. But c’mon.. only 2 words and you win an oscar? That’s amazing! who else can do that these days.. :P

  • [~Fug Face Man!ston~]

…And everyone knew he would win.

  • Lauren

    Jean!!!! God, tellement heureuse!

  • loli

He did it !! As all the french people I’m very happy for him and proud to see that all the world can see that not only the americans can do great things in cinema, french cinema is one of the best in the entire world !
I’ve always loved Jean and I knew he could do a wonderful work, but an oscar !!! Whaouuuuu

  • armenianlover

  • http://www.soliumcqueen.com Vikious

He is: hot, funny, talented and very down – to-earth! So happy for him, he really deserved the Oscar! Congrats!

  • All’s That Matters is

    that Bradley lost.

  • Marie

I’m really Happy that Jean won the Oscar!! he really deserved it! It really is hard to play a character while saying nothing! Because the first thing about the actor is to be able to give an emotion through the eyes. Because like Georges Rodenbach said it “the eyes are the window of the soul” and they really are. Speaking is only the conclusion of what the eyes want to say. And Jean in the artist is really amazing! He even received a congratulation letter from the grand-daughter of Douglas Fairbanks a really well known silent actor during the 20′s! It must means something ! And I’m so happy that in the last decade 2 french actors get the oscar! First Marion Cotillard and now Jean Dujardin! Two of my favorite french actors !

  • natacha

I am French and I think …. George Clooney or Brad Pitt (who I usually don’t like !!!!) deserved the oscar .

That’s great for Jean Dujardin ,he really is a good actor BUT In MY opinion berenice bejo was wayyyyyyyyyyyy better than Jean (but octavia really deserved the oscar)

I think this movie was great but people have to keep in mind that it is a movie about the old glamourous HOLLYWOOD and that is one of the reason The Artist conviced the academy!!!

the media are over reacting: French people will talk about this for a loooooooooooong time -_-

btw : before The artist he wasn’t THAT famous in France , people knew who he was, but he wasn’t the most famous actor among the French actors …

sorry for my grammar : as I said I am French ;)

  • Elizabeth

I’m French and happy for Jean, but Gary Oldman really, really should’ve won. He’s such a talented actor, way underrated! But I’m glad that he’s been at least nominated,so everyone can appreciate this fabulous actor!

  • missy

    @Sarah.: um, Holly Hunter duh?

  • futuremrsdicaprio

@Elizabeth: I was torn between these two. I also thought Oldman was great, but I’m happy for Jean. As long as Pitt or Clooney don’t win, I am glad. They’re overrated actors. Neither The Descendants nor Moneyball were Oscar-worthy, but because these two were in them, they were nominated. The Artist was amazing BECAUSE of Jean— his charm and charisma ooze through the screen, he’s so great.

  • Liz

    Bravo Loulou!! Tu le mérites!

  • Roberta

@Annie: I don’t think brad deserved the award for this movie. in my list, he wouldn’t even be nominated. This wasn’t his best work, and i don’t know why he was there…

  • MalCobb63

Marion Cotillard & Jean Dujardin <33

  • Mirabelle

Félicitation à lui! et bonne continuation!

  • Lauriane

@natacha sorry but I disagree.I watched The Descendent but not Moneyball and Jean Dujardin was way better than George Clooney.Anyway,I’m rellay happy for him and he totally deseved this Oscar. It’s great that some French actors get some recognition from Hollywood:Marion Cotillard and Jean Dujardin recently and I think the last actress who won an Oscar before them was Juliette Binoche in 1997.Of course there have been some other actresses but it was some time ago now.

  • Vintage Moonshine

    Well deserved! Brilliant performance!
One of its kind. Loved the movie too.

  • pauline

GOSH I hate Jean Dujardin, the movie sucks, he’s stupid and a bad actor, i’m very disappointed that he won, he doesn’t deserve it AT ALL

  • Rambling Rose

truly riveting portrayal of George Valentine. Oh my! He surely delivered. Wide range of emotions!
    Congratulations! / Mes félicitations!

I look forward to seeing him in his next film with Marion Cotillard.

  • I’m E!

I knew he’d win but I can’t say whether I agree or not ’cause I haven’t seen The Artist yet. Nonetheless, it must be really hard to act and express whatever you want only with your face and body and without the help of a powerful line, dialogue, etc.
So congrats Jean! Looking forward to see The Artist!
(I agree with another post, he really looks like an old Hollywood actor).

  • corto maltese

Congrats to Jean. French people are so proud. I am happy for them.
We have to be open mind. And the films in the competition were all particularly good. But winning the oscar with only two words is a performance.
