Michel Hazanavicius Wins Oscars' Best Director

Michel Hazanavicius holds onto his golden statuette on stage at the 2012 Oscars held at the Hollywood & Highland Center on Sunday (February 26) in Hollywood.

The 44-year-old director picked up the award for Best Director for his work on the film The Artist.

Michel beat out Alexander Payne (The Descendants), Martin Scorsese (Hugo), Woody Allen (Midnight in Paris), and Terrence Malick (The Tree of Life) for the honor. He was also nominated for Best Writing, Original Screenplay and Best Film Editing but lost both of those awards.

    I loved his acceptance speech, when he told his wife she was the inspiration for the movie. Lovely! Congrats Michel!
