Lucy Liu: Watson in Sherlock Holmes Pilot ‘Elementary’

Lucy Liu stops by the Ritz-Carlton New York and Wella Professionals Beauty Bar booths at the Official Presenter Gift Lounge at the 2012 Film Independent Spirit Awards held at Santa Monica Pier on Saturday (February 25).

The 43-year-old actress is set to play Joan Watson, Sherlock Holmes’ sidekick in CBS’ drama pilot Elementary, written by Robert Doherty.

According to Deadline, the series is “set in present day and stars Jonny Lee Miller as eccentric Brit Holmes, a former consultant to Scotland Yard whose addiction problems led him to a rehab center in New York City. Just out of rehab, Holmes now lives in Brooklyn with “sober companion” Joan Watson (Liu), a former surgeon who lost her license after a patient died, while consulting for the NYPD.”

Other pics include Matt Bomer picking up a pair of New Balance running kicks and also checking out Wella at the Spirit Awards.

Shailene Woodley, who won a Spirit Award, was such a good sport, stopping off at a few booths – Tree Hut, Emergen-C, Fashion Forms, AMC Theatres, and Crunch!

I’ve been enjoying her stint on Southland. I would hate to see her leave.

Not a good idea…..Sherlock the BBC series is awesome ……. maybe they are trying to make something like that based on NYC

Please don´t.

Why do American production companys always have to take everything to America?

BC is great as modern day SH why do something that sounds so similar parallel to that.

And also JLM as Sherlock? Please no. Lucy Liu as female Watson? Urgh.

I HOPE that this will suck so badly, that nothing more than the pilot will ever air.

I will burn you.

and if you didnt think this was a bad idea before……

This is repugnant.

Personally I don’t like this idea, I find it rude that CBS would do this, here in the UK we are overshadowed at points with the American Industry, we worked hard to produce the BBC Sherlock. Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss alongside Sue Vertue and many other people have worked extremely hard, harder than anyone else. I’m just shocked that CBS would attempt over shadow us on this, but the UK won’t back down this time, we are proud of Sherlock and we will continue to be. As for casting a female; John Watson I think it’s beyond rude! Sir Arthur Conan Doyle proudly wrote The Adventures Of Sherlock Holmes in the UK, it’s a classic! You just can’t change things like that! Respect our work and our television series, we have always done the same to you.

@…..:

I absolutely agree. It is beyond rude and the synopsis is even more offending than I thought it would be.

My boss said he owes everyone at CBS a fall.

I just hope Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat can cash on this, other than that, this show can burn. What? They can’t have a male Watson because it would sound too gay to the sensitive American audience? This is crazier than the worst genderbender fanfic ever made. But hey, people will finally have an over-sexualized Sherlock Holmes to work with.
