Oscars 2012 Ratings Up From Last Year

The ratings for this year’s Academy Awards are in – and it’s slightly higher than last year’s.

Nearly 39.3 million viewers tuned in for Sunday night’s big award show hosted by Billy Crystal, up 4 percent from 2011.

EW also notes that the “program out-delivered three of the past four Oscars telecasts and ranked as ABC’s most-watched program in two years.”

The 2012 Grammy Awards, however, drew a slightly larger audience for CBS earlier this month, most likely “boosted by the death of Whitney Houston.”

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE part of last night’s Oscars?

Why the oscars have to be so boring? They were just a bunch of stiffs faking it and posing. YAWN

  • Sarah.

I actually liked last year better.. this year was just so boring.. thankfully some of the presenters were funny.

  • Bella

This year it was sooo boring. And you know why? This year there was no interesting person sitting in the audience. I recognized, that so many nominees and winners of the last 20 years were missing: Sean Penn, Jeff Bridges, Russel Crowe, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ryan Gosling, Daniel Day-Lewis, Don Cheadle, Geoffrey Rush, Forest Whittaker, Kevin Spacey, Leam Neeson, Clint Eastwood, Jack Nicholsen, Dustin Hoffman, Joaquin Pheonix, Robert De Niro, Christoph Waltz, John C. Reilly, Johnny Depp, Jake Gyllenhaal, Dencel Washington, Christopher Nolan, Hugh Jackman, James Franco, Nicole Kidman, Kate Winslet, Charlize Theron, Halle Berry, Julia Roberts, Annette Benning, Emma Thompson, Hellen Mirren, Judi Dench, Carey Mulligan, Keira Knightley, Marion Cotillard, Hillary Swank, Reese Witherspoon, Diane Keaton, Selma Hayek, Laura Linney, Diane Lane, Jodi Foster, Tilda Swinton, Amy Adams, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Viola Davis, Care Blanchett, Rachel Weisz, Julianne Moore, Anne Hathaway, and and and. Where were these people? Why did the prince of monaco and his wife sat there? Why Jennifer Lopez? Why Kelly Osbourne?

  • Hey

Poor US Mag still smarting from Angie calling them out on National TV for lying about something she said so they are trying to make people think that there was something wrong with Angie. Well Heck NO!!! Angie and her man looked great and Angie had fun with the slit in her dress and Brad really apreciated it. Poor US see what happens when you lie about someone who is not afraid of a tabloid.

I watched the best show on television instead- THE WALKING DEAD.

  • lol

I watched Eastbound & Down instead

I have to agree. it was quite boring -.- I was sooo hoping for a really good opening number from Billy Crystal but it was not quite entertaining. Also the hosting during the show was poor or almost not existent. He was there a couple time for a few seconds and then laughed about his own “jokes” which weren’t always that funny.

My first Oscar I watched was the one Hugh Jackman hosted and it was amazing. I loved it so much i decided to stay up (i’m 9 hours ahead of LA) the last years, too. But in my opinion it never reached the same level since then.

(I hope the language is ok and understandable, english is not my mother tongue)

oh and was this documentary, that won, about football????

I really hoped for “Pina” to win but that wasn’t american enough, apparently :(

  • urbigfatass

the best part was on the red carpet when seacrest got dusted hard

  • Bella

@Bella: I agree with you whole heartedly about big name movie stars not in attendance, which is the reason I watch it. Some of them are not my favorites, I really missed Nicole Kidman because I always want to see what she will be wearing. She was just beautiful at Golden Globes a couple weeks ago , she looked like a real movie star. Gweneth Paltrow looked like a star at these Oscars.Very boring Oscars this year, I couldn’t sit through it.

Also, they could have left little Tom Cruise at home, thinking he was doing everyone a favor by popping in to present an Oscar. He didn’t even attend, he is really into himself.

The academy awards better send a Thank you note to Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, without them, indeed the Oscar night will be to boring to watch!!
