'The Lorax' Tops Box Office Again

Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax kept its momentum at the box office this weekend, holding on to the top spot again with $39.1 million.

Second place this week went to Taylor Kitsch‘s action adventure flick John Carter, which took in $30.6 million in its opening weekend. The movie is about a Civil War veteran who is sent to Mars and has to save a princess from the barbaric creatures who live there.

Project X slipped to third this weekend with $11.5 million, followed by Elizabeth Olsen‘s Silent House, which brought in just over $7 million. Fifth place went to Act of Valor, which took in $7 million this weekend.

lol he got a number one in a movie where only his voice is in it… woow what a good “actor”

  • hey there!

congratulations to all the cast on their superb ACTING even if it is just voice overs it is still acting. They put their characters into their voices.

The Lorax was great, but so was John Carter. I recommend both movies, honestly.

John Carter was #1 internationally – it made $102m in one weekend, whereas the Lorax has made just over $120m in two. By next week, John Carter will have made more money than The Lorax, but that’s not a commentary on The Lorax.

Zac Efron is a good actor and Taylor Swift is pretty cute, too. I don’t get the hate.

  • R U sure

Hi Robin ! Isn’t this great news for Zac!

Congrats to Zac and the entire cast and Crew of the Lorax # 1and 2 weeks and a row..

@true: Really? You are an idiot. Doing a voice over seems easy, but it’s not. It’s actually a lot harder, as you don’t really have any other actors to “bounce off of,” so to speak. You are basically doing your interpretation of it all and it’s honestly not that easy. Nobody gives you directions on how to act and what you should do. You get the lines and you do what you think you should do given what the lines and the situation in the film. It’s not easy at all.

John Carter premiered wordwide on the weekend and dominated the foreign portion of its thearical run by grossing $70.6 million and its debut at about 8,300 screens in 51 overseas torritories…

John Carter cost $250 million to produce
Lorax cost $70 million to produce..
Lorax made less than $120 million ..Domestically…

No offense to anyone in the movie but there was no way this film was going to not do well. “Despicable Me” done by the same creators made $500 million+. The success of this movie is a no brainer.

  • sara

so zac fans really think that this movie did so good at the box office because of him hahhahahah i feel so sorry for them STUPIDS

  • nicky

@Jessie: You shouldn’t forget one thing. You said John Carter “INTERNATIONAL” which means in more countries than in the US. The Lorax is just shown in the US up to now and nowhere else. The most European countries start show it in July. Russia, Asia, I don’t know.

Seriously, what’s with the John Carter uber-fans? It did comparable numbers to Tron and Prince of Persia, no more, no less. Lorax surprised everybody with the massive opening weekend AND holding over a week, especially over a Dinsney mega-movie. So far it’s the Lorax that’s “the first blockbuster of theyear”, and there’s a lot of irony in that.

Now let’s wait for the Hunger Games to arrive…
