I’m so happy the film did well. I thought the film adaptation was great and I even teared up a bit when Rue died. I can’t wait for Catching Fire.

  • Peeta

I will be seeing it again with my friends. Loved it! Jennifer rocks as Katniss.

  • blue

The only action heroine amongst male heroes of The Dark Knight and Harry Potter for the biggest opening weekend ever. I’m so proud! Go Jennifer!

  • Sayer

I see all the hype and mall tours paid off. Now, I’d like for the hype to die down so we can live our lives in peace again.

I feel bad for John carter. it’s really a decent movie and Taylor Kitsch deserves a break.

  • Sayer

How many of the people who saw it are REPEAT viewers?

  • elle

That was a really good movie.

  • Why trash?

    Does it matter?

When Avatar and The Dark Knight were viewed multiple times by the fanboys nobody cared. But if it is any other film then people have to snark. We hear the fan boys that go to a theater just to see a trailer for DK or whatever.

Good for Jennifer and the others. I thing some are scared their favorite won’t get these numbers.

  • Peeta

Loved it. Go Hunger Games. Let the odds be forever in your favor.

  • yep

Loved it! Awesome! I will go back to see again!

  • justsayin

You forgot the part where it’s third biggest box office weekend of all time, Jared!!! Wooo!!! Taking notes, Bella? It pays to be smart and tough and not just be in love with your sparkly vamp. The Hermione Grangers and Katniss Evergreens rule the world! Woo!

  • Lola

I adored the books and I am very glad that the movie is very respectful of the book and also is really good. Of course it is an adaptation and there are things not included but maintains the essence, and Jennifer is also brilliant. Go Hunger Games!

  • alan

@Sayer: Please explain why exactly he deserves a break? He was horrible in John Carter, zero charisma.

  • Lucille

Twilight forever. Hungery Gameless what? Plus Rob, Kristen and Taylor are hotter. Jennifer, Josh and Liam who?

  • Whooo!

Jared! You forgot to mention it’s the third biggest box office opening EVER

It’s the highest opening EVER for a nonsequel! I’m so stoked! Loved this movie, can’t wait for the rest. Wiping Twilight off the map (:

  • Sayer

@Lucille: The same people (Lionsgate) OWNS both FRANCHISES,so they win.

  • catdog

No, all the twilight movies were made and hit theaters when summit was independent. Maybe lionsgate will get money from the last movie.

  • Lisa

    Haha! Cant beat Harry Potter!

  • Nora

    Hermoine beats Katniss! Yay!

  • Jenna

I happen to love Harry Potter, Twilight and The Hunger Games! Will people ever stop comparing them and just enjoy them like me?? They are all great in different ways!

  • ozzie

I was pretty surprised how well I liked the movie. I was so angry through the whole thing that the society got to such a horrible state.

This is our future if we stay on the path we are now with the upper 1% hoarding the wealth and the anti-science movement that is going on in America right now.

  • Lisa

    The Hunger Games film was sooooo A W E S O M E

  • Jeez

Can’t really compare Twilight box office with Hunger Games’ box office because one is targeted towards females, while the other has an even mix of males and females. If we are to compare the franchises, it should be Harry Potter and Hunger Games, both evenly appealing to the two sexes. In that case, Harry Potter beats Hunger Games :).

  • aunatural

Any teen movie that would beat up that TWATlight movie is a damn very good!!!

  • sam

Funny how people can’t just enjoy a movie’s success without bringing down another.

  • Carla

This is amazing news I am so happy it did well and it deserves all the success :’) brilliant film.

  • Sprout

I’m sorry, but I couldn’t get past the first 5 or 6 chapters of Twilight. Bland and boring, but at least it wasn’t Gossip Girl, I suppose. Saw the films; still not impressed. The Hunger Games beats both the annoyingly cliche boy wizard’s world and bronte-wannabe Stephanie Meyer’s DIMLIGHT.

  • rp421

Hunger games deserved the hype–John Carter did not. I am a scifi fan who was rooting for both, saw both–jc in 3d too. John carter’s source material was weaker than HG.

  • http://capricorn_16 Chaka!!!!

It’s just the first book and it is really amazing that The Hunger Games is such a huge hit!!!!!!! Prepare for the 2nd and the 3rd books,, maybe it will make more than $200 million on its opening weekend!!!!!!!!! :-))))))
    THG rules!!!!!!!!!!

  • R

    suck it, twitards!

  • HG all the way

i especially loved the archery work in HG .. first time in a long time i’ve paid to see the same movie twice in one weekend!

  • gemma

IMO people have forgotten that twilight was a small budget indie film and became successful because of the fans . that itself is amazing and the critics as well as the cast themselves were not expecting twilight to became this huge success . whereas the hunger games has been given a big budget and media coverage and so they have a bigger advantage . so to compare both of them is unfair .

  • the truth

Forget about the books, what makes the movie so good, is how hard the director worked on ensuring that the movie as a material without the book actually made total sense. It was INTENSE, and Jennifer is one in a million. Her performance was both convincing and captivating- I am excited to see her progress as an actress. Tremendous talent. The script and cinematography were both spot on. Overall a great movie adapted from a great book. A+

Needless to say, I am glad its getting deserved recognition.
