Katie Holmes Set for Christian Carmago's 'Seagull' Retelling

Katie Holmes is set to star in a modern retelling of The Seagull, the classic play by Anton Chekhov.

The 33-year-old actress will star alongside Allison Janney, William Hurt, Juliet Rylance, Mark Rylance, and Jean Reno. The film will be written and directed by Dexter actor Christian Carmago.

The film will be “set in rural New England where reckless desire wreaks havoc over Memorial Day weekend as a family confronts the volatile and fragile nature of love.”

Allison will play Elizabeth, a movie star based on the role of Irina Arkadina in The Seagull, while William will play her ailing brother. Katie is going to play the temperamental daughter of the estate’s caretaker, according to Variety.

Juliet, who is married to Christian in real life, will also produce the flick.

Um, no. She’s a lightweight as an actress – absolutely no talent or depth. It’s like hiring a child to play a woman. Given her lack of success, it’s shocking that she’s ever hired. Nepotism is alive and well….

Who keeps hiring Katie ????? She just cannot act, I’m sure she must have taken acting lessons but it sure hasn’t helped her. Does Tom Cruise have something to do with her being hired ???

Couldn’t they hire her old Creek mate Michelle Williams(a 3 time
Oscar nominee)or someone else for the part, for pete’s sake!!!!

  • KC

Sounds like a straight to DVD kind of thing.

  • Mikado

    I prefered her original nose.

So, another movie that she’ll sink. Chekov will be rolling in his grave. And no, I don’t find it exciting that she’s been cast. What next, Shakespeare?

  • Lilly

Getting her this part must have cost Cruise a fortune. Girl cant act to save her pathetic little life.

unless they are changing things, her character is not a major role and certainly not the star. the director’s wife will be Nina who is the great beauty. katie’s character is unattractive, depressed, repressed and.drugged out. perfect.

Well Hurt has a reputation for not suffering fools gladly…so it will be interesting to see how he handles working with the awesomely vapid and amazingly untalented Ms, Holmes Hope some of the real down and dirty real gossip, comes, out from the set instead of the sanitized PR,version.

This role should be a cakewalk for Kate. From
Masha – Masha is the daughter of Paulina and Shamrayev, the managers of Sorin’s farm. She wears all black all of the time because she is depressed and hates her life. A heavy drinker and snuff addict, Masha’s repressed, unrequited feelings for Treplev torment her. She is pursued by the poor schoolteacher, Medvedenko, who has a mediocre, obsequious personality, which complicates the situation. Masha is critical and unsympathetic to her admirer, Medvedenko even though she herself is in his same, unrequited position in her love triangle with Treplev. She feels sorry for herself and her undramatic life. Masha marries Medvedenko but keeps her love for Treplev burning strong. Like many Chekhovian characters, Masha gives in to the disappointments in life and accepts them, surviving the unfulfilled dreams with the hope of change and renewal in moving and forgetting.

  • It’s a home movie

Christian wrote it and will direct. His wife stars and co-produces with her loser friend. His father-in-law is in it too. Maybe they’ll just post it too youtube.

  • Oscar nomination

    @The Ultimate Debbie Downer:

“She wears all black all of the time because she is depressed and hates her life. A heavy drinker and snuff addict,”

^ Dark movie characters in Hollywood = Oscar nomination if Katie can give a good performance like she did in “Pieces of April”

  • Posie

    HUH? What a joke!

hubby must have had a hand in it.

The play will sink to high heaven…thanks to katie bimbo.

  • simy = mediocre, obsequious

@Oscar nomination: wow… you’re delusional. You believe in a mediocre actress like Katie?

  • Jules

@The Ultimate Debbie Downer: Now I’m dreading it even more. All of the characters in the play have something to give, and if the director’s not careful Masha will just be played as a one-dimensional drunkie. If it’s a cakewalk for Katie then it’s not gonna be good.
